Haight-Ashbury healhy eat for wife -yummy eats for hubby-HELP!

Haight-Ashbury healhy eat for wife -yummy eats for hubby-HELP!

We are visiting the Haight for a silly tour-something different. This is a surprise for my hubby and he is a major foodie. Unfortunately, I am not. I am simply interested in low cal/healthy food-not that I don't enjoy a yummy meal-but I do not have the appreciation he does.

So-is there a restaurant that might accommodate us both? He is a foodie that loves breads-curries-meat-and intricate flavors.

Me-happy with a basic salad :)

I want to wow him, I appreciate your feedback -

Twain Hart romantic restaurant rec needed for VDAY - moved from San Francisco Bay Area board

I have not been to Twain Hart-but I am going up this weekend with another family. I want to take my "foodie" hubby out to a nice place for Vday, but realize options might be very limited.

My own criteria
yummy food
romantic
he is open to about any cuisine-but he has aprefrance for staks or seafood-NOT FRENCH-but is open. I would be more specific, but as I said my assumption is that we are looking at a limited number of places to select from.

We are willing to drive 30 miles or so out-but due to snow my prefrence would be to stay in Twain Hart.

THANK you for reading my post and providing any info you have on this.

Help with breakfast in Ikebukuro & surrounding areas

thank you so much...I would ask if you have tried any of these, but honestly anything is better then denny's. I take it breakfast is not a big meal in Japan? It is unclear-
thank you again so much

Help with breakfast in Ikebukuro & surrounding areas

I am leaving for Japan this Friday-my mother in law offered to take me with her. This will be my second trip to Tokyo. The first time I was awe struck; like a deer in headlights, I did not move or interact but let the world pass by me.

For this trip I have decided to not play this docile role, but take an active approach. I have found such useful information on this board and feel much more prepared for my dining experiences. That is until my mother in law came over today to go over our itinerary. I mentioned how my getting up early does not work so well with the late opening of many Japanese establishments. She quickly responded "not to worry, we can get up and each morning have breakfast at Denny's or Jonathan's"---yes the smile was big, big, big, on her face.

So help, help, please help me find some worthwhile breakfast eats for my upcoming trip. I am staying in Ikebukuro, but I am willing to travel.

Also any other suggestions on how to get her to see it my way on eating out-she has been to Japan over two dozen times and her favorite place to eat is The Hard Rock Cafe. I need to lull her into the yum that is Tokyo...maybe some places that would ease her transition would be nice?

Thank you for taking the time to read my post, respond to my post (if you can), and thank you for, already, providing so much great info on this board!

Tsukiji reopened to tourists

I was wondering the same thing. I made it last time ...but too late (sleepy father in law) to see the main auction. Flying into Narita on Friday and I wonder if I should try again.

Also looking for any recommendations on great sushi or great breakfast at the early hour of the morning. I know stalls line the market, but wonder if there was a specific "go to" sushi stop.

Thank you oh and thank you e_ting for the heads up on their reopening.

Foodie thank you present-best foodie day ever

that sounds great. I like the idea of a full day event that leads into a great meal. These are all such wonderful ideas and really fit within the budget and driving restraints. I am not 100% yet, but heading toward Ramekins. I really appreciate the amount of time everyone who has posted, is taking with my question.

Foodie thank you present-best foodie day ever

that looks wonderful. Has anyone taken classes or stayed at Ramekins?
We could even stay the night?!

Foodie thank you present-best foodie day ever

That sounds great. You are right she may want to be pampered more then cook the whole day. "Chef's Tables?" I will look it up. Or you could just give me the answer, her day is in all of your's hands.

Foodie thank you present-best foodie day ever

So I need some guidance as to how to splurge on a foodie pal, she referred me to a wonderful job and she went out on a limb for me and I really want to give her a great night or weekend on the town.

Food is her thing. She enjoys small plates and organic food. I am not as aware of options. I need your help.

Dinner would be nice, but I would love to pair it with something, like a cooking class, or some type of food event. I am pretty out of touch in this arena. But this should be fancy..maybe a tour of some kind....I just don't know.

I want to thank her soon, so at the latests, the end of this month or early December. WE are located in Oakland but would be eager to go outside of the area. I am open and willing to drive 3-4 hours. I would be happy to do an overnight thing if it means she gets the best food experience of her life.

-She has taken her friends to wine country many times and sampled some great food, but I don't just want to copy what she has done for others.

I was thinking to spend between $150-$350, but could go higher.

I was considering
having us take a class at -Cheese School of San Francisco - www.cheeseschoolsf.com
or simply dinner at Chez Panisse

but that just doesn't seem good enough. So if you could have a great "foodie day" what would it be?

I am a creative person, but this is her area so I don't want to bust out black angus on her. Thank you for reading and I really do appreciate your help.

Your favorite thing at Tommy's Joynt?

I love the stuffing. Might not fit all tastes as it can be a bit gooey. I always pair it with the pastrami sandwich.
