Cam D's Profile

David Chang on his TO Outposts

It doesn't seem any different from any other opening to me.... There are changes, there are delays. If everything was already set in stone, then i think there would be a problem.

Help me decide.....someplace new and exciting

I haven't been but I've only heard good things. Same with Acadia.
Le Canard Mort was just ok.
Campagnolo was great.
Enoteca heard great things.
Woodlot was very good.

Don't think you are going to go wrong regardless.

Help me decide.....someplace new and exciting

Yours Truly?

Wish Mr. MG a happy birthday...

Chicken Pot Pie

My very pregnant wife is craving chicken pot pie. I am craving potentially my last very good meal for a while.
So looking for reservations tonight (Sunday) in Toronto somewhere that serves Chicken Pot Pie and is a quality place. Help!

Anyone know a Good whisky restaurant

Allen's on the danforth has a very strong list. I can't say I'm a fan of Via Allegro but they have the biggest whisky in the world, I believe.

The legendary Adly Gawad is no longer there...

New Malt Bar in Downtown Area

Here's a job post on craigslist. Anyone have any idea? I am very excited to become a regular.

An upscale whisky bar is looking for experienced bartender...full-time. Must have a good knowledge of malt whisky. being Scottish is an asset...full Scottish menu.

Scotch offerings at the lcbo

kwjd,

I would go with the Abelour A'bunadh or Glendronach for rich sherry flavours. I usually find lowlands too light in general but the 3 wood is very good.

The Restaurant at Palace Pier

My folks are there. It's exactly what you would expect from a condo resident's restaurant. Pay more attention to the golf club past, not the world travels.

It is possible to have enough - Quanto Basta

Had a great glass of Pinot. Burrata was the best I've had in Toronto so far

Paese - is it good?

Hi Millygirl,

Long time no chat!
Went to the new Paese on King. Food was fantastic. Wine list prices will blow your mind. Impressed enough that I will go back which I don't say about many places.

Dinner for 2 bringing wine

I always underwhelmed at Cava for some reason. Table 17 (which I really like) said free corkage Sunday monday, not allowed the rest of the week which struck me as odd. Gonna try the Hoof and see how long I have to wait! Thanks for the suggestions.

Dinner for 2 bringing wine

Thanks for the suggestions but I should have been more specific...
I'm looking for the best food that allows you to bring in wine as opposed to the cheapest corkage.
No winterlicious restaurants if possible.

Dinner for 2 bringing wine

Where should I go? It's killing me. My dad and I are going for a bite after work.
Criteria are good food, we're bringing our own wine.

Hellooo Toronto - please indulge me in a wee little "what's new" catch-up!

My most impressive recent ones.....Buca was very good. Polenta was outstanding. My best of the year was Local. The owners/staff are passionate and having fun. Best charcuterie plate I've had in the city so far, rabbit stuffed olives were delicious.

Globe Earth

I'm in on Saturday....anyone else been yet?

ISO T.O. restaurant celebrating American Thanksgiving

Just got a flyer from Allan's on the Danforth. They are celebrating the holiday.

Pairing with Cassoulet

just remember the oil and vin dressing will kill whatever wine you choose...

Non Allen's biz lunch spot needed on Danforth

It's a list of one. Globe. There really is no where else to choose from.

Splendido - Best of 8 Years Menu

I'll see you and Mr. Millygirl on the 20th as well!

Blackwood's Dry Gin, from the Sheltand Islands

Blackwoods gin is less herbal and has a very clean taste. Very good. They also have a vodka and a vodka cream (tastes like melted vanilla ice cream). My understanding is they are doing this to finance a whisky project but obviously need cash flow while the whisky ages.

What to do with Schweppes Bitter Lemon?

I would have to agree. Gin or vodka. You have the perfect drink, no need to mess with it. The morning after have a St.Clements.

Pennsylvania liquor store bargains

My sarcastic heart goes out to you. As a resident of Ontario with parents in Pittsburgh, I have a shoppinglist when they come up because of the great deals you have at tghe PLCB!
I'm on a PA mailing list through a specialty store that sends out offers once in a while. Some are laughable but once in a while a really good one comes through. I'm building my collection of grand cru white burgundies through this.

Best LCBO scotch under $60

yes....affording to drink malts is an issue. For those that know me, I'm a huge advocate of independent bottlers. They are significantly cheaper than the distillery bottling. You do have do deal with odd ages occaisionally. Ardbeg is the only one I buy from the distiller. However the LCBO seems to forget the discount when doing their pricing. I am fortunately in the position where I can get them from Scotland. I can't afford to drink from the LCBO. Examples
1972 Mortlach bottled in 04- about $200 Mortlach 30 at LCBO on sale for $1250
Speymalt (which is Macallan and is sherry casks) 31 $160, Macallan 30 year old in US oak is $900!
HIghland Park 30 $140. The 25 is over $250 at the LCBO!
It's ridiculous. Small selection and big prices.

Best LCBO scotch under $60

I fully admit to being a malt snob. For me it's ok, but it's still a blend.

Best LCBO scotch under $60

Thanks for the vote of confidence SWS!
I'm in a heavy sherry mode right now. Glendronach 12 or Abelour 10.
If he likes the smoky side, Smokehead is huge and delicious but a more balanced Bowmore 10 (or 12 I can't remember) is available.
2 distilleries that rarely do anything wrong (as I think others have already mentioned) are Highland park and Balvenie.
It's malt whisky, it will be delicious!

Globe Bistro - quick review

I went for the burger last Friday night after work. Really hit the spot. My girlfriend thought it was a bit greasy but that's how I like it. It was fantastic. Home made pickles were really good as well. Fries didn't excite but were a great vehicle for the smokey ketchup.

I want to buy a juicer

I have the Breville. It's incredible. You throw in full size unpeeled fruit. Clean up is literally rinsing it off and dumping the pulp in the green bin.

French bistro ideas!

I was underwhelmed at Le Paradis.
Le Select had great food, great atmoshpere.
Loire was excellent on a much smaller scale.
Pastis is very good.
Midi if you are looking for the economical....
