I use that recipe. It is SO good. I do all cheddar too. Sometimes I don't have Gruyere on hand. Turns out terrific. Plus you can make it ahead. Right up to the breadcrumbs and then pop it in the oven when it suits you!

How to kill a crab?

I steam them with a lid. Steam hotter than boil so they maybe die quicker(?) and - IMO they taste better. Lid to conceal eyes. Sometimes I like to put a weight on the lid. Don't ask.

Chili left out all night. Would you eat it?

It is actually the potato. bacteria plus cut up veggie (esp root) = potential for problems.

Old guys are awesome. The big mayo hoax. I see a book.

Did ya have the windows open? It got pretty... chili last night.

Seriously. It was cool.

Hubs and I - we made a death pact under similar circumstances. One small serving of dicey food each at the same time. Sealed with a kiss. 12 hours. No barf = all systems go.

What's For Dinner #366: It's summertime! [through May 29, 2015]

Grilled lamby chops, roasted broc/cauli/onion with parm, israeli cous topped w/ roasted toms all washed down with some excellent Sparkman Cellars syrah... all out on the deck. Long sunset watching the birds and ships sail by... in a chilly 65 degrees. There's always a hitch.

Ideas to use up syrupy marmalade?

Howsabout using it with some chicken. Like thighs , qaurters or breasts (or combo). Bake it with your quasimarmalade, some lipton soup mix and french dressing. Oven. Serve over rice.

I like screwy marm over biscuits. I keep it in the fridge.

WHAT is this?

LOL - I will have to try for it in winter so I can be more appreciative. I must say though - I am happy to know what it is. I have... a gigantic crop of greens this Spring. Good to know it can be sauteed.

Thank you so much for answering. I was truly stumped.

Sausage, peppers and onions

I sometimes do one pan of sausage, chicken, peppers (red and green), onion and pepperoncini. All oven roasted. Then separately - spaghetti and marinara. A gigantic bowl of caesar salad and another pan of good garlic bread. You could make it for an unlimited crowd because you can do the meat at peppers ahead and foil them up under a warm oven. Salad - ahead. If some want sandwiches, do some marinara and thicker bread - plus some mozz. along side. People will do what pleases them.

WHAT is this?

I am stumped as are all my neighbors. I have eaten it, so apparently it does not kill humans.

Muchas gracias amigitos! and apologies ahead of time for the startlingly old hand.

Why do some grains require draining and others do not?

I know with Basmati rice they have you rinse it well to get the starch off. So then when it is cooked each grain stands alone (so not all clumped together).

Quinoa - I know it is not really a grain, but there is a shell on the outside or something and it is bitter and rinsing knocks it off. I am told. I have rinsed and I have not rinsed and haven't really noticed a difference. But hey - here is a good article from someone who probably - maybe - might know: http://food-hacks.wonderhowto.com/how...

Cooking cake in batches, but one bowl of batter?

Generally speaking if you are using eggs as the leavening you need to bake it of right away. The longer wait time will get ya a denser cake (not the light and fluffy you might be looking for).

Maybe try one not relying on eggs or baking soda (which - once it hits the wet, it is working). So a dbl acting baking powder kind. Chocolate, vanilla, carrot...

Can you do cupcakes and top them with your boozy whipped cream? I was reading that gelatin keeps whipping cream firm. A side note.

Good luck in your next adventure and with your treat.

The Worst Burritos Ever (& How to Build a Better Burrito)

I like rice in a shrimp or veggie burrito. And I like wet burritos (though what is pictured seems more an enchilada done with a flour tort.).

I like just enough wet stuff to keep the chunky stuff from tumbling out onto my top.

Ickky Party Dishes

I love that the best meal you had at her house was one you brought. Thanks for the laugh.

Ickky Party Dishes

I had those at a wedding reception about 20 years ago. But they were meatballs. I think it was grape jelly. I don't remember gagging, but then again I am willing to eat almost anything.

Ickky Party Dishes

I am sorta sick of seeing artichoke spinach dip - especially in a bread bowl. All these years and I still see it.

Not a fan of cream cheese block covered with cocktail sauce and canned crab or those baby shrimp. Maybe I am alone in that.

Ickky Party Dishes

I like Miracle Whip and Velveeta for certain applications.

What is the worst wedding reception dinner you've ever had?

Me either. My mom kept saying "I bet these two want to get out of here" during reception dinner. I wanted to zip that yap closed. My husband thought it was hilarious. He knew what he was marrying into. When we got to our room my mom had set out a gown she bought me on the bed and on top of it she laid a note saying "His father will be inspecting the gown tomorrow for signs of lost virginity. The pressure is on." Sigh. I miss that wacko.

What is the worst wedding reception dinner you've ever had?

I had not even considered consummation being anything other than sealing the deal on the sheets = not the sheets of paper! Laughs~

Your mom missed her calling at the three ring circus. I guess someone has to be the one to oil the machines and keep things humming.

What's for Dinner #221 - The post-Memorial Day Edition [Thru Jun 3, 2013]

93 degrees means that meal? I think that is wonderful. Oh wait - It never gets to 93 here. Boo.

Platanos y tostones? Yum. I always feel guilty ordering or fixing them together. Like when I want grits and homefries together. Or in this case - hashbrowns and homefries. But still.

Pretty little hunk of swordy. I may have to try that prep for a steakfish the next time I get my hands on one. Rare in the PNW - maybe a halibut. would do.

Did you like the soft shells better round two?

I always feel like I should adore them when I get them, but am usually sorta meh on them. I like them fried - but I think maybe I would like most anything fried.

Very proteinerific meal.. Anything to go with?

What is the worst wedding reception dinner you've ever had?

So the guests have apps and cocktails while the B & G consummate and then everyone eats dinner?

I could get behind that situation.

I can wait a good long while for consummation - it is the endless picture taking that annoys. Plus table talk - how much more interesting it would be!

What is the worst wedding reception dinner you've ever had?

Interesting. First marriage or beyond?

I was wondering later what the celebration might entail (if different) for subsequent marriages. Less elaborate - more subdued? Parents pay or adults are on their own?

What is the worst wedding reception dinner you've ever had?

There had to be an Aunt Bee.

Not even a bite? My curiosity would not let me not taste it. That said, there have been a few times where I went to try something someone made and gagged out loud. I assure you that retching sounds - while involuntary - do not play well with the cook.

Possum smells fine cooked as long as they get that rump gland out. Ahem.
