Ickky Party Dishes

I love that the best meal you had at her house was one you brought. Thanks for the laugh.

Ickky Party Dishes

I had those at a wedding reception about 20 years ago. But they were meatballs. I think it was grape jelly. I don't remember gagging, but then again I am willing to eat almost anything.

Ickky Party Dishes

I am sorta sick of seeing artichoke spinach dip - especially in a bread bowl. All these years and I still see it.

Not a fan of cream cheese block covered with cocktail sauce and canned crab or those baby shrimp. Maybe I am alone in that.

I like Miracle Whip and Velveeta for certain applications.

What is the worst wedding reception dinner you've ever had?

Me either. My mom kept saying "I bet these two want to get out of here" during reception dinner. I wanted to zip that yap closed. My husband thought it was hilarious. He knew what he was marrying into. When we got to our room my mom had set out a gown she bought me on the bed and on top of it she laid a note saying "His father will be inspecting the gown tomorrow for signs of lost virginity. The pressure is on." Sigh. I miss that wacko.

I had not even considered consummation being anything other than sealing the deal on the sheets = not the sheets of paper! Laughs~

Your mom missed her calling at the three ring circus. I guess someone has to be the one to oil the machines and keep things humming.

93 degrees means that meal? I think that is wonderful. Oh wait - It never gets to 93 here. Boo.

Platanos y tostones? Yum. I always feel guilty ordering or fixing them together. Like when I want grits and homefries together. Or in this case - hashbrowns and homefries. But still.

Pretty little hunk of swordy. I may have to try that prep for a steakfish the next time I get my hands on one. Rare in the PNW - maybe a halibut. would do.

Did you like the soft shells better round two?

I always feel like I should adore them when I get them, but am usually sorta meh on them. I like them fried - but I think maybe I would like most anything fried.

Very proteinerific meal.. Anything to go with?

What is the worst wedding reception dinner you've ever had?

So the guests have apps and cocktails while the B & G consummate and then everyone eats dinner?

I could get behind that situation.

I can wait a good long while for consummation - it is the endless picture taking that annoys. Plus table talk - how much more interesting it would be!

Interesting. First marriage or beyond?

I was wondering later what the celebration might entail (if different) for subsequent marriages. Less elaborate - more subdued? Parents pay or adults are on their own?

What is the worst wedding reception dinner you've ever had?

There had to be an Aunt Bee.

Not even a bite? My curiosity would not let me not taste it. That said, there have been a few times where I went to try something someone made and gagged out loud. I assure you that retching sounds - while involuntary - do not play well with the cook.

Possum smells fine cooked as long as they get that rump gland out. Ahem.

Thank you very much for the description man (I believe) with a name that amuses me.

Funny that weddings so often are more about the expression of wealth. Universally.

Balsamic? Huh. I wonder why I have never considered doing that. I adore balsamic braised greens with a runny ol egg slapped on top!!

I like name your pie. You are right that it does not really matter the name... as long as you call it good right? : )

I am making a pork roast tonight. Seems like kismet. What to call my pie? Another thing to ponder. Swine Salver? Wait. no. Isn't that poison related? Ah I can keep the man on his toes. Haha (done wickedly).

I sorta wondered the same thing about subbing miso paste. And so I went looking and will pass 2 things for you to look at:http://www.foodfromnorthernlaos.com/2... and http://www.thekitchn.com/whats-the-di.... I thought miso that I have on hand plus a little korean chili powder I use for kimchi.

I use Bob's chickepea flour. I have used indian brands and see I can't discern any difference.

Roasted nuts. I buy the roasted and toss for a few minutes them in the oven to get the flavor going again. I suspect that if I did not put them in the oven nobody wold call me on it.

What is your absolute favorite dish from your cultural heritage?

Adrienne - I want to make Chaap or ChaaNp . It calls for Kewra water. Since I have never tasted it I am unsure about whether I actually need it - like it is integral or a nice touch. Do you know?

Promise to try a nice Bengali sweet very soon. Maybe when you announce your engagement (call me surrogate mama).

Ah I know who that is. I have TV and pop culture gaps. I thought maybe it was Seinfeld. LOL

Harters - salad was a nice addition - we had it along side the main. Wanted it ahead, but life complicated things. Turned out to be pretty nice with. Thank you.

Oh isn't that just lovely Weezie. I like that it does not look overly sweet. And the pistachios are a nice touch.

I AM going to make that, but not until July 4th. Strawberies are not in here yet (unlike everywhere else) and gosh, fully sweet ripe berries seem absolutely a must.

Haha. I was eyeing those eggs too and thinking that I was pleased to see someone sunny side an egg and let the edges of the whites get crispalicious.

I spend too much time thinking about others food I think.

So I was driving around today and I was wondering (instead of paying perfect attention) why some Shepherd's Pies are with ground beef or lamb and whether it was some Americanized thing. I got on to ask and lo.

Thank you MC!

No, I did not crash.

What is the worst wedding reception dinner you've ever had?

What is a Jerry Jerry moment?

How, generally speaking is the food at Chinese weddings? Big shabang or not?

What is the worst wedding reception dinner you've ever had?

Possum. Huh. That is really funny. Or it is in my head.

Do you know how many possums had to be filled to fill those chafing dishes? And the work? They are all icky hair and bones. Seriously weirdly bony. Ah yes a labor of love and oh that certain little something that rhymes with beliverance.

What's on tap. If I don't write it all down, it flies right outside of my swiss cheese brain.

Note I am prowling for an incredible, but not extremely hard cake. It is for my own birthday. Yep. I am making my own.

Gracias Harters. I was leaning that way and now I am a go.
