The best pizza in Brooklyn.....that no one knows about.
V&S on Emmons Ave. (around the corner from El Greco) is similar. Both are OK and make decent slice and hot dishes IMO. Usually their specialty pies are worth trying. The rest of the pizzerias i found in the area are crappy.

Hip, moderate-priced places in Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Gowanus, or Park Slope?
2nd the Clover Club recommendation, bear in mind that the cocktails are a little pricey but certainly worth it. Watty & Meg also has a good crowd. The burgers and salads we had were fine as was their service, just not sure if it's "hip" or not. Seems like Joya has a “hip” crowd. Food is OK, nothing spectacular, but definitely reasonable. The music was a tad too loud IMO and most people it seems are there for the bar scene.
atlantic antic this sunday
Is Popa Chubby playing? He usually has to compete with Last Exit's bands, which are entertaining, but IMO there's no comparison.
Are you freaking kidding me? Another Thai place opens in Cobble Hill/ Carroll Gardens.
Or since Lemongrass is a mini-chain this could've happened to one of their Manhattan locales.
Nehna -
We have been to Watty and Meg for burgers and salads and it was good (not sure which chef was there or not.) Menu was a bit limited, but nicely prepared. Very accommodating staff as well.

Considering we ate @ Lemongrass this evening and they had plenty of patrons, I would double check your source.
Bark Hot Dogs
The point hotdoglover is trying to make is that the hot dogs that are purported to be made exclusively for specific venues is just not true and can be found in your local supermarket, which in hotdoglover’s case is probably Wegmans. I also believe hotdoglover is from the Land of Springsteen where Wegmans has seven stores.

You are my favorite poster hands down. Please let me know if you add hamburgerlove, pizzalover, sushilover, baconlover, etc. to your repertoire - CH would be a much much better place.
Best SLICE in BoCoCA/RH
I agree with waylook, Sal's is nothing fancy just a decent slice.
Osaka - Still Good?
Yes, one of our go to places in the neighborhood. We’ve found the quality of their food, sushi and cooked dishes, to be good, attentive service and one of the more pleasant outdoors space to dine in. A lot of people complain that their rolls are too big, def. bigger then Geido and Taro, which doesn’t really bother us one bit. We like their special rolls, the Osaka, something else with a peach – forgot the name? - their sashimi. Sometimes their rolls don’t deliver well when ordering takeout (that happens to us with other sushi places as well) and the spicy tuna sometimes is not that spicy. I also love their tempura ice cream don’t ask me why? Not sure about the current mgmt. , but IMO a good choice for Japanese.
Seniors Restaurant
Their cole slaw, pickled cabbage (another good recipe to find), tomato, pickle plate was classic.
Bueno opening in old Gravy/Trout space
"...I just can't get my head around a place called "Bueno" not being a burrito shop."
Not to mention there’s a not so bueno Mexican restaurant (with decent drinks) right next door.
Street food: Point me to something new
Not sure if it’s worth a special trip, but there’s a Schnitzel Truck that’s been parking on Smith Street (bet Warren & Baltic) near the Met Food. I don’t know there schedule and have yet to try it, but when I walked it smelled really good and some other posters have given it decent reviews. If you’re near the F train it’s only a block or two walk from the Bergen Street station exiting on Warren.
Lucali Temporarily Closed
First Totonno’s and now Lucali, I hope this doesn’t portend heightened scrutiny from the DOH (or whomever regulates the food industry) on restaurants that use coal or brick ovens. Glad to see no one was hurt and they’re back in business.
best case discount on wines in brooklyn?
Not sure if it's the best deal, but I’ve always had good luck with Slope Cellars (7th and 15th.) Nice knowledgeable staff, good prices and selection, some nice tastings from time to time done in back and a nice monthly newsletter. They have a discount card where you buy X amount of bottles and you get one free so this could help you out. They might also deliver, which is good if you're buying in bulk. As an aside I also like their taste in music, which [subliminally] may get me to buy more booze.
Jewish Bakery in Boro Park? Pressed for time!
Do any of the above make a homemade rye bread?
Italian beef in Brooklyn?
Can you get John's (Bensonhurst locale) roast beef and mozzarella all the time? I thought it was just the Wednesday special.
Downhill Alert: Cubana Cafe (Smith St.)
We were a bit dismayed by the Dominican lunch counters on Smith, we got their take out menus and found they were exactly the same typos and all. The food was nothing spectacular, though I do remember them having generous portions. If we decided to go back what dishes would you recommend?
What's really good in Carroll Gardens these days?
Not to hijack this post, but Downtown Bar & Grill and Watty & Meg also seem to be pretty child friendly because of their outdoor eating arrangements in front. However they’re both in Cobble Hill and not far from CG. The former’s food is OK and has something like 700+ beers, the latter’s a month or so old and I have not tried a/o yet.
Happy Robbins? Happy Robin's?
Nice post ren hoek – makes me wish the DeLorean’s flux capacitor was in working condition.
Downhill Alert: Cubana Cafe (Smith St.)
Always thought it was just OK mainly because it was something different then the usual Chinese/Mexican/Thai/Bistros, etc. in the area. If there was another Cuban place, and I'm open to suggestions, to compare it too then I'd probably feel differently. If you have more then a party of four then good luck getting seated, as the other posters mentioned it is tight in there.
Any good Thai/Chinese/Vietnamese in Brooklyn Heights/Cobble Hill
Sorry but I respectfully disagree with you on Lemongrass’ food. I can think of a lot of things in this part of Brooklyn that are “abysmal”, just pick any of the Mexican restaurants for starters, but I don’t think Lemongrass is one of them. IMO they have always been consistent, reasonably priced, decent delivery and comparable with the other Thai places in the neighborhood. Maybe if I had authentic Thai I would think differently, who knows? As far as his business practices go I could not comment, but it would not shock me judging from what I’ve read about various food service employees being cheated out of a minimum wage.
Best fried chicken in Brooklyn?
Funny a lot of posters (and I’m not one of them) on The Manhattan Board really like Popeye’s.
Weekday breakfast between Bklyn Hgts and Boerum Hill?
I find the service at Ted & Honey to be sporadic and forget about it they’re busy – go elsewhere. Try Marquette (Court off of Warren) which I believe has some limited cooked dishes for breakfast. If not their pastries and coffee are very good IMO. There's a small seating area in back as well.
Watty and Meg
Has anyone been to this place that opened in the old Cafe Carciofo space? Passed by the other day and their burgers looked good, curious if its the same as Cafe Carciofo (The furniture looked similar) or different?
CitiField Chow Preview
Can't speak for their food, but I believe the Wilpon's have been "double fried" by Bernie Madoff.
Must eats in Cobble Hill?
The OP asked for something on a student budget. Though good I would think Lucali, and a # of other responses, was probably out of the OP's range.
Brooklyn Beer Bars Part 3 - Pacific Standard
We were Pacific Standard on Friday night and your review is pretty much spot on. Nice crowd and a spacious back room. Some were watching the games on the huge screen in back, others played darts. A good selection of craft beers that might not appeal to everyone, so if you’re not sure what to order just ask the bartender for a taster rather then waste that precious ale which one of my friends did (imbecile.) They also have a quiz night on Sunday’s @ 8:30 with a $40 bar tab as a prize. Their food was nothing special, salsa had a decent kick, so I’d order in. And yes the bartenders did not mind just don’t be a slob about it. One thing that I did find odd were the amount of dogs in the bar (I thought the DOH had was a rule about this?) I’m a dog fan and there wasn’t any Roger Vick-type shenanigans going on, just thought it was a bit quirky.
