Best low cal, low carb, high protein bar favorites????

I have never tried these bars, but they sound like something worth looking into. I am going to give 'em a try. A BIG thank you for the info...always good when the nutritional value "works" and the product doesn't taste like cardboard :)

How did hurricane Sandy effect what you're eating?

I can't complain here b/c we have the generator runnnnnnnnn, but everyone here @ the Jersey shore will never b the same. We need every1's help....NJ and NY are devastated. Please rally up the good people in the world, and help feed and clothe our neighbors. Thank goodness for nonperishable items.

high iron meals for Hashimoto's

WOW I couldn't type quick enough after reading the reply that said nuts are iron suckers...I have suffered with iron deficient anemia x20+ years, but over the past year and a half I have change my way of life to what I thought of low carb...Very recently my wbc has dropped from it's usual below the norm to what has become a critical value...and continues to plumet. The big "C" has been ruled out time and time again...die to the longevity of the problem...kinda a no brainer. However I am a big NUT snacker...I do take a prenatal vitamin with iron as well as, iron supplements daily. I had never heard of the nut thingy, but my next stop will be "dear Google"
I love this board and all the dedicated GOOD people on it!!!! Thanks for the fyi. :)

Not sure if you saw my other so sorry for the delay in response posts....those are all good ideas. I have tried giving him the shiriitake noodles with olive oil shredded mozz, and grated cheese...some crumbled meatballs was a hit(although he would rather have
rice) I have given in very small portions of al'dente tri colored(vege) pasta and although i drown it in melted cheeses for protein...I am still concerned about the flush look that comes over his face shortly after consuming it...makes me think its a no no...and now that I have backed off the pbj on white bread...I attempted a high fiber high protein cereal for breakfast and noted a similair reaction, coupled with horrible belly pain and a lengthly trip to the bathroom. I'm thinking a serum test for Celiac sensitivity will be the next stop....

Low Carb People...What Will Be in Your Shopping Cart?

So very sorry on the delay in resonse escargot3...been doing double time runnnnn' to doctrs appts; yes they are. Bananas are 6carbs/1oz, and most melons run around 2carbs/1oz..however both my daughter and I sometimes suffer from hypogylcemia, even with proteins 25+grams, so every once and a while a weee bit of banana, carrot, and or melon stops that horrific feeling....it sometimes runs cyclic with us....more like a hormonal monthly thingy with the "curse"

Best low carb lunchbags and school snacks for BIG & lil' KIDS......lookn for ideas

My lil'guy is a middle schooler and is attemptn this low carb way of eating for the first time. He is a very picky eater and coming from the typical "white foods"mentality. It's going to be tough b/c he lived for Ellio's pizza, chicken nuggets, macaroni and pb&j. I have started weaning him with cheese sticks, roasted chicken, and cheeseburgers on low carb wraps. We maintain nitrate/nitrite free foods. He likes to take a thermos to school so i can send in warmed foods...it's gonna be hard to omit his mac&cheese. As far as the 16 yo goes...she loves to take freshly carved meat and cheese low carb wraps, nuts and fruit, and salads with mozz and beans(lil' guy would never :(!!!!!) Sometimes I can send the older one with cottage cheese and fruit or greek yogurt...
Any kid friendly ideas would be greatly appreciated
:)

I am wondering if that theory is stemming from a particular diabetic hx or is that the rule of thumb for typical low carb eating? Is there a moderate window there...or are coming from a hx of uncontrolled DM proir to beginning your low carb way of life? My understanding of this carb#/day so to speak came from a reversal of an insulin level of 67, after 3weeks of eating a low carb menu...and ever since have never had an insulin level above 11...My mind is completely open, as I have the utmost respect for everyone's experience and truly want to grasp the entire concept.....just when ya think you finially got it....hahahahhaha :)

I am trying to wrap myself around this...I always thought that if you consumed the fruit with a serving of significant protein, all is well......is my endocrinologist missing the boat??? We always limit our carb consumption to 20 from fruit and have a hefty serving of protein with the fruit...thinking we were " eating low carb correctly"....I truly wasn't attempting to get over in the low carb world...can you set me straight....I'm at a loss

Hi Sedimental,
Just wanted to say thank you, you opened my eyes to a great site. It's a terrific find..so grateful...I'm hoping to find some nice holiday baking recipies. My family truly misses biscotti(of all sorts of varieties..since we've begun this journey we have given up those treats cold turkey. I think it would be nice to have a few treats with a cup of tea or coffee over the holiday seasons(especially if we can make a healthy version for those guests that maintain this "weigh" of life).
Thanks again,
;)

Does anyone have good info concerning the risks of SOY?

I didn't considr the cheesesticks because of the lack of carb and the refrigeration factor...maybe the kind bars and some added nuts might be better than the Glucerna Hunger smart bars, also looking into just baking my own...so hard to get the "right numbers" but I am going to try... Not too sure if she will eat the jerky(its an early am snack, breakfast is 545am for her......school is quite early, so snack would be around 9am...it's a tough one(I've been tryn for 2yrs)to come up with an ideal subtle snack packed with protein and carbs that doesn't warrent the fridge....never heard of the fat content needing less refrigeration, thanks for the fyi
