What's Your Favorite Food Movie?
OMG! I saw that in Paris in the summer of '73. It is so funny (and the food looks amazing)
any Fourme d'Ambert or Capricho de Cabra sitings (PHX)?
L'Ecole restaurant at Scottsdale Cullinary Institute has Fourme d'Ambert on their cheese platter. You might try giving them a call...
Julia Child autobiography
I read this last month and couldn't put it down. It's facinating and now I've gone back to re-read Mastering the Art!
Mesa Art Center and Food?
We ate at S'Bistro about 6 weeks ago. It was alright, but a little pricey.
First Trip: Fresh & Easy, Mesa AZ
The store at Guadalupe and Higley is actually in Gilbert. I stopped there last week after they first opened and was very impressed. I lived in London for many years and never ever shopped at Tesco's. They were a bit downmarket in the 80's and 90's. This is totally different. I will be using them over TJ's because it's closer for me and they carry decent cheeses, creme fraiche and mascapone! I also loved their selection of Indian foods. Prices are pretty reasonable and the selection not too bad.
Tarbell's
I love the marscapone cheesecake with rosemary caramel sauce. Also loved the grilled lettuces, but they are off the menu now.
Bak'd - Mesa, AZ
I had a reservation for the 3 of us last Saturday night (December 29). This was supposed to be a treat for my son's 16th birthday and he was really looking forward to it. No one was at the restaurant, the door was locked. I called and left a message. I have not heard anything back as of today. To say that I am extremely disappointed with the lack of professionalism is piutting it mildly!
2008 Michelin Guide San Francisco
I agree - I had the tasting menu there last April and thought it was great. Service was excellent and the whole experience was wonderful. I too am glad they got their star!
Has anyone gone to David Burke's in Las Vegas?
I went last July and was not impressed. I liked some of the ideas, but the execution left a lot to be desired. Started with the warm caesar salad. It was overdressed and turned into a soggy mess after a few minutes. I then had the crab cakes which were coated with pretzels. Again, great idea, but didn't quite come off.
