Business lunch near Oak Hill...not Jack Allen's?

I'm looking for a place to bring clients for lunch. They are near the Y at Oak Hill and we would want to stay within a 10-15 minute radius. Love Jack Allen's, but we've been there a bunch of times. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks so much!

Kid Unfriendly Restaurants?

I'd recommend Hopfields. It's a great bar, moderately spendy, though not terribly spicy. The mussels are incredibly good. It's hopping up front, and quiet and romantic in the back. And I always feel like a grown up there!

Hard Hat Vol IX

Well, probably all of us hungry folks up here in the hinterlands. I hear they are opening up a Torchy's somewhere near 1890 Ranch as well.

Austin Restaurant Week 2012 experiences

I've been to Trace for their lunch menu, and it was a knockout again. I started with the Shrimp and Andouille Gumbo, which was delicious and massive. It would have been a very heart meal on it's own. The I had the Potato Gnocchi with pesto and fresh ricotta, and wow. I love gnocchi, and these were the best I've ever had. Little pillows of heaven.

I've also been to Haddington's, and that was also excellent. I started with a very simple salad with Arugula and pistachio butter and it was bright and salty and peppery and just right. Then I had the cauliflower steak on a bed of cheesy orzo. Loved the cauliflower, the orzo was fine. For dessert, I had the sticky toffee pudding. While it didn't knock me down like an Uchi or Uchiko dessert would, it was solid.

I was thinking about trying Austin Cake Ball and Kitchen next week. I had a friend recommend it. Has anyone tried their ARW menu?

Foodie Celebrating. Need help!

I just enjoyed a fantastic Austin Restaurant Week Meal at Haddington's, so I'm a bit biased in my suggestion. They have a really comfortable atmosphere and friendly vibe, and the food is excellent. Great cocktails too.

One of the things that I love most about Austin dining (as a former New Yorker) are all the great patios around town. I love eating outdoors. Olive and June would be a great pick for outdoor ambiance, and the pappardelle with shortribs is crazy good. I also ate really well at Trace (at the W hotel). They have a really pretty upscale sidewalk patio.

Braise...oh my...

I purchased a groupon for Braise as well that I used back in November, and it was specifically descibed as being for the four-course tasting menu. I wasn't overwhelmed by the food or the ambiance, but the service was solid when I was there and I didn't feel any "groupon stigma." I thought it was a pretty good value for $50 for two. A reasonable way to try the place, though I honestly doubt I'll make it back there again. Too many other good places to try...

I'm going to cook a bone-in leg of lamb... where do I get one?

A few weeks ago, I was looking for a lamb shoulder and I'm pretty sure I saw bone-in leg of lamb at Costco. Not likely organic, but probably more economical than other options. I couldn't find the pork shoulder btw, so let me know if you've got any tips on that!

Downtown Austin Office Christmas Party Locations

I'm looking for a good location to host our office holiday dinner. We'd like to be downtown, so that we can head out to other locations after the meal. There are several serious foodies in my office, so "Spaghetti Warehouse" is off the table. We've got about 24 in our group if everyone attends. I'd like something with a private room if that's possible.

La Condesa has a room called "The Flour House" that is an underground vault. Has anyone been there? Underground vault could be cool, or claustrophobic...

I'm also looking at the "Green Room" at 2nd Bar + Kitchen, but it's outdoors and I'm concerned about the weather.

Any suggestions? Or places I should steer clear of?

Thanks!

Favorite Austin Desserts?

I'm a big pie fan as well. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed in Cutie Pies. The were cute and all, but the crust-to-filling ratio was off, probably because they were so cute and tiny. What are some of your favorite local pie places?

Favorite Austin Desserts?

Thank you for all your suggestions! I've been busy, busy, busy, but have barely made a dent in this list! So far, I've gotten the warm baked cookies at the Alamo Drafthouse (with milk!); had two bites of a doughnut at Gourdoughs (way too sweet for me), devoured something absolutely divine at Uchiko (one of the specials), licked the plate from the Chevre Cheese Cake at Mirabelle, smacked my lips over some lemon/meringue thing at Wink, and tried four different pies from Cutie Pies! All that, and I've lost weight since the divorce. I think happiness is the best diet : )

Please keep the suggestions coming!

Favorite Austin Desserts?

Just exited a 15 year dessert-free marriage to a calorie-obsessed husband, and I like to start making amends to myself by checking out some of Austin's best dessert offerings. I'm looking for some recommendations:

What is your favorite price-is-no-limit, no-calories-barred, can't-wait-to-finish-the-main-course dessert in town?

Half-sour pickles?

Does anyone know where I can find half-sour pickles in Austin? They are a Thanksgiving tradition for my New York-based family!

Oasis - new chef and menu?

I heard an ad on the radio for the Oasis, said they have a new chef and menu. Anyone heard anything about this?

I really want to like the food there, because I love the atmosphere. But I'm always underwhelmed by the food and overwhelmed by the price...

620 Cafe & Bakery in Round Rock

Has anyone tried this place out?

I'm looking for a nice lunch spot that is within a reasonable to drive for both friends working at Dell (intersection of 35 and 45) and near Lakeline Mall. Any other suggestions?
