Citizen Public House and R&D

Ahhh, that is good to know as I've wanted to get up to R & D. I flat out love the cocktails at the CPH, but I do question the overall snobbery and rigidity that I've heard about R & D.

Eden Prairie - Edina Update

Upon looking at the menus and Yelp reviews, I am not sure why I would try any of these spots over Redstone or Wildfire, both of which have been reliable and pretty good (not great, but solid)?

Eden Prairie - Edina Update

Good ideas...I will try and check em out.

Eden Prairie - Edina Update

Tempting as it looked really good on triple D. So far, I am thankful for the tips, but doesn't seem to be anything new.

Marshall Recommendations Help

Just wanted to get a quick report in from last week's trip. Overall, the weather, the people, and the town were very nice. The best out of the bunch was not actually listed here - Central Perks cafe downtown. They were super nice and had the best salads and soups all week long - a great spot for foodies and just about everyone. I had a great posole one day and a nice chicken, artichoke, and veggie soup on another. They also had wonderful teas.

As for dinners, I settled on Wendy's one night as it was super late - enough said. I went to the new sushi teppanyaki spot, In Japan, one night because they were open later and right near my hotel. Guess what, it was ok, about a B/B-, which for Marshall is not bad and better than some horrible places I've eaten in Mesa, Chandler, Phoenix, Gilbert, AZ lately. They have Korean chefs who actually know how to roll and slice fish. I stuck to safety fish like salmon, eel, and some pretty good whitefish. The yellow tail was awful and I said so. Everyone was nice. I had three other dinners at Cafe Italia and it worked out great. Solid, not great food. They could use a little fine tuning, but it got me through the week and thankfully they are open until 10 pm most nights. The meatballs were probably the best thing I had and nothing was outstanding. Oh well, I was there to work and work I did, so on to more chow worthy destinations.

Eden Prairie - Edina Update

I have reviewed the board and been to EP many times, but based on some resto closings and the need for an update, I could really use some help.

Any new EP restos that are chow worthy? What about Edina, which is not far away and where I will actually have plenty of meetings all week?

I noticed there is a new Whole Foods in Edina, is it solid, with all the good trappings of the newer whole foods, i.e. good sushi, large salad bar and hot food bar, in house smoking and grill, and so on?

Is there anything else somewhat close to these suburbs that is chow worthy, I can drive just about anywhere, but don't have the 25-30 minutes to hit the downtown MSP areas? Thanks for the help.

Los Angeles 'hound ISO finger lickin' BBQ!

Ok, I am a Phx CHer reviving this string because it is right on point for me, but I have a twist. I am leaving on Friday and have time for one very short stop on the way to DFW Airport, coming all the way in from East TX (Marshall) and basically crisscrossing the whole city...So, if you had your choice, but couldn't drive too far out of the way on the way to the airport with a late afternoon flight to catch...where do you send me?

Pecan Lodge, Meshack, and Baby Back shack strike my taste as the best from all the responses, but admittedly, I am starved for good BBQ coming from AZ, so whereever you send me will be excellent, no doubt!

Michael Mina San Francisco

I did not find it particularly noisy, but I was there on a weekday night. I thought it was fabulous and one of my top meals in the past two years.

Day Trip to San Fran - tell me your Must-Trys!

Definitely after 10 pm.

Day Trip to San Fran - tell me your Must-Trys!

Hey singleguychef, its your AZ CH friend. Coming to town this week and I have one night out on Thursday, maybe solo, maybe with a buddy or two...still waiting on confirmation. If you had one night out, where to go? I don't want a Gary Danko/M. Mina experience for that night, been there done that...looking more for great cocktails and good fun food. Barbacco or perbacco look interesting. Staying near Union Square but can cab it anywhere in City. Oh, and just for good measure...needs to be a spot that serves food somewhat late.

Without sounding too cheesy...I am forever in your debt for the amazing rundown! You have clearly spent many many moons in Marshall. I will report back in a few weeks.

San Francisco: EARLY Breakfast?

- 1 for Lucky Penny, we used to live right near it and it sucks.

Marshall Recommendations Help

Wow, this guy is not f*&^%^ing around with his BBQ! I need to locate the highly rated ones within driving distance of Marshall, doesn't appear to be too many.

Marshall Recommendations Help

Shocking, but you guessed it....thank you for the recs as I am somewhat in panic mode as I cannot fathom eating fast food for a whole week, let alone one meal. I am looking forward to some good BBQ.

Marshall Recommendations Help

I need some serious help from the TX CHers. I will be in Marshall, TX, for over a week from AZ. I am looking for recs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For dinners, I am willing to drive to neighboring towns.

Also, I could use a rec or two for the road between Dallas and Marshall as I will be traveling that route a few times. I do not have any dietary or monetary restrictions. I am interested in everything from a top notch sit down dinner spot to the very best hole in the wall or roadside stand for BBQ or tacos or whatever.

Floridians coming to Cali for the first time.

Not so much an offense as a sure sign that you are tourists! I must admit, originally being from the Midwest, I usually chuckled at the bristling that goes on over "Bay Area" v. City v. Marin or wherever else anyone was living or from in Northern California. Saying Cali and San Fran, though, sure sign of not from around here.

Best non-club places to drink?

At Cosmopolitan...the Chandelier bar and Vesper Bar are good spots. I like Bar Mandarin as well and the Peppermill Lounge. Depends on the time of evening and day of the week, but Ghostbar and Moon Lounge at Palms are pretty good...just depends.

Brunch Update from the Board

I am excited that Richardon's is back in play. For this time of year, thinking about something outside, unless I need a little sunglasses indoor feel that morning!

Brunch Update from the Board

I totally agree with you on the Mission.

Brunch Update from the Board

I am partial to Commander's Palace for Bloodies. The ice encased vodka bottle is a nice touch.

Brunch Update from the Board

I think we could use an update from everyone on where the current best brunch spots are for Saturday or Sunday brunch. Here are some categories for further fun:

Best outdoor
Best buffet
Best view
Best value
Best splurge
Best bloody marys
Best overall brunch dish
Best hidden gem

I would like to avoid the Easter brunch discussion as that is a one time event and definitely not my cup of tea.

Need your Vegas Foodie advice for April Convention

++1 on CUT.

Need your Vegas Foodie advice for April Convention

+1 for skipping sushi and definitely skipping PF Chang's. Substitute Jaleo for Julian Serrano. +1 for Lotus of Siam (LOS). Not sure where you are staying, so will hold off on any other recs.

Italian Restaurant?

Yes, your Mom's review pretty much sums up all of Bianco's restos without calling them "overrated" which they all are...

Not much trademarkability or brand distincitveness when someone uses a generic term like "Brunch" for a restaurant name. Although, you have to admit, all it takes is a little tweak to discover some distinctiveness....Delux, Over Easy, Humble Pie...

Best Buffet- is there any such thing? And rec for special 40th-

MOZen for brunch....best ever....but, it is not really like a large cheesy hotel buffet. Fresh sushi cut to order by real Japanese chefs, fresh shellfish with multiple types of crab and oysters. Unbelievably good and such a relaxed atmosphere. Outstanding. I like an occasional hotel buffet just for the fun of it...but the one at MOZen is special and a great value for the cost IMHO.

California Foodie Visiting Scottsdale for Spring Training 2012

Great posts and I am glad you enjoyed your time here. For Distrito, that place is all about the tacos! Thanks again for the feedback.

Eating good overnight in Vegas

Not sure where you are staying, but Lucky's 24/7 is excellent at the Hard Rock Hotel. Cannot go wrong there for any type of food. I have eaten many many meals there in all states of mind and fatigue and have rarely, if ever, been disappointed.

NYC Chowhound needs help! 5 days in Scottsdale

Just a few notes: I would skip Bianco, totally overhyped and not worth it. Don't come to the desert for pizza if from NYC. Citizen Public House is great and so is FnB. Skip Arcadia Farms, not a great spot and overrated. Put the Zagat's away for good. Cafe Monarch is not worth it either as thereare much better choices. I agree with skipping Sapporo and going right for Roka Akor, Shinbay, Hiro Sushi, or Sushi Roku. The Mission is excellent for brunch or dinner. It is Pan latin and one of my favorites. I would add Distrito for sure. AZ 88 and Greasewood are ok, not my favs. Herb Box is solid although a bit pricey.

The Grind and Matt's are excellent. Postino and Over Easy and the Vig are solid too. I really like Chelsea's kitchen. For AZ weather and beauty Lon's is a solid choice for eating outside and gazing at Camelback, a truly great AZ experience. Have fun!

FIX or Jalleo for party of 15 people. Looking for fun place and great food

Both really good choices. I had the absolute best meal of my life at Jaleo this past weekend, but I think something would be lost on such a large group. Also, Jaleo should be enjoyed, not rushed through for a show. FIX is much better for that...good food, fun, great drinks, but a little pricey for what you get. They do groups really well if you call in advance.

Sage versus Le Cirque?

We just did MOZen for Sunday brunch....flat out amazing. Fresh sushi cut right there, awesome shellfish and incredible salads, main dishes, and nibbles (like a fresh spring rolls with spicy chicken...so good.)
