DINING FOR L.A. FOODIES VISITING PORTLAND I spent a memmorable few days in Portland last year while on a wine tour. My meals at Wildwood, Payleys, Andina, and Bluehour could hold up against the best of L.A. Some of my closest friends who are fellow foodies from here are spending a few days in Portland soon. Is there anything new in the last year that has opened in the same calibur as the aformentioned places you could suggest. Anytime any of you come to L.A. I have great places for you to try. Thank you. |

I want to report a very positive experience. I had afabulous dish which was homemade; and you coud tell chicken ravioli in a sage butter sauce. The ceaser salad as well as the bread were very good. My wait person told me to come back as the chef does wonders with the fish specials. I know everything can hinge on what you happen to order;guess I was lucky. I sure don't envy some of these owners as being new to L.A. I am blown away by the overwhelming cometition. |

TAGINE MORROCON-WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE With a few glasses of wine and one corkage fee it was $125 for two including tax and tip. I thought it waswell worth it as said there wer about ten small plates of fabulous creative quality. |

TAGINE MORROCON-WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE I had forgotton how much I enjoyed the whole Morrocon food experience, but my experience saturday night was above all expectations. First of all I only have been to large places. Tagine located at 132 N. Robertson was a 30 seat place with perfect date atmosphere. We were informed that they only serve a tasting menu. What followed were many small plates of salads ,lamb and seafood. I could have any dish I ordered as a full entree. The personable chef came out and wanted to make sure we were satisfied. I cannot reccomend this experience more highly. I am ready to repeat the experience. Places like this deserve to be supported. |

What Restaurants Have Lived Up To All The Hype? I just had a fabulous dinner at Water Grill. Even the bread to start was great(bread is an important part of my meal, I next had a steller crab cake followed by about as good a salmon preparation as I've ever had. Every other member of our party raved about the Halibut and Baarammundi. I was told the new chef was from Charlie Trotters in Chicago. I know many will disagree but I enjoyed my experience here more than Providence. I found the portions a bit small. I know I'll be accused of being old school, but I sure enjoyed my attendence last night. |

My mother was in town for eight nights and we hit all the better known fine dining spots; so when a buddy of mine called and wanted to get a casual bite to eat I was just expecting a simple nothing special dinner as I had endulged in the finest with mom. What a pleasant surprise to ahave a wonderful tasteful experience and for the price of an appetizer at all the places I have frequented as of late. I know there havae been postings for Fresh Corn Grill which is on Westwood Blvd, but I have to add my two cents. I am a big proponant of small chef owned restaurants and this really fit the bill. We had a long conversation with chef owner Josh who really showed his passion. We told him we expect a lot from a place with corn in the title as we are both from Nebraska the cornhusker state. We found the food fresh creative and well spiced. The corn chowder was light andd flavorful and not filled with cream, The ceaser salad had a great dressing, and the bread I thought was outstanding. Josh says he uses the same dough for the pizza. I always love the saying the details make the difference and here the curry sauce for the salmon and the cajun sauce for the excellent chicken sandwhich made it special. I was so full, but I had to get a brownie to go. I ate it while watching the depressing news. I have a challenge to you fellow chohounds. Go try it and then tell me if you have had any better in L.A. It had a nice crunch on top and a wonderful gooey inside. Again, for me this place sets the standard for gourmet casual dining. Please give it a try. |

I am happy to report that my two cupcalkes which I saved for after dinner were spectacular. The cake on each was moist and the frostings very creamy. The orange dreamsickle was rich and creamy with an orange flavor that stood out. The cake on my mocha frosted one was rich in chocolate flavor and the frosting had a deep expresso flavor. I am looking forwards to eating my way through the entire product line. And I will be anxious to here comparison reports by all of you to all the other cupcakes in town. |
