Barbeque near Atlanta Airport

I have a co-worker who is from California and she will be heading back to college in California in about a month. She has never experienced good southern 'cue. Her idea of barbeque is my version of grilling. My co-workers and I want to take her out for lunch for some good smoked pulled pork before she heads back. Our office is a stones throw from the Atlanta Airport. Any nearby suggestions would be great. Thanks for any help.

Good Eats Buford, GA?

Noodle Mi near the mall is good if you are looking for vietnamese/thai. Fajitas, which is in the same shopping center/building as Ted's and is pretty good mexican. Its right across the parking lot from Chuck E. Cheese. Can be easy to miss if you are not looking for it. My favorite in the Buford area is Aqua Terra Bistro in historic downtown Buford, about 15 - 20 minute drive from the mall. A weekend evening maybe tough to get 12 in without a huge wait. I don't believe they take reservations. There is a link to their two other Restaurants on their web page, 37 Main and Third Coast Grill. Went to 37 a while back and enjoyed it. I've never been to Third Coast but hear good things about it.

looking for a good bowl of hot Pho and Korean Tofu house in metro ATL?

I went to Noddle Mi for lunch on a cold rainy day. I'm not in the area during the evening. But it was me and only one other customer. Maybe their hours a kind of weird until business picks up. However, it was the biggest bowl of Pho I've ever seen. I am 6'2" and 220 lbs and couldn't eat it all.

Noodle Mi near the Mall of Georgia on Woodward Crossing is pretty good. I had a big bowl of Pho a couple of weeks ago.

Athens, GA area BBQ

Smokin Po-Boys in Winder (20 minutes from Athens) is really good. Ate their smoked chicken last night and I can say it was the best smoked barbecue chicken I have ever had. Their pork is top notch as well, within my top 5 of all time. Haven't had a chance to eat their ribs yet. They had a beef brisket special last week. OH BOY was it good!

Jekyll Island. - Please tell me there's something!

I have been to Jekyll Island many times for conferences and conventions. The only good places I've been are near (or part of) the Jekyll Island Club and they can be expensive and not kid-friendly. You are better off by heading to St. Simons next door. About a 10 to 15 minute drive from Jekyll. I would do a post for St. Simons and you should get a better response. There are some good restaurants on St. Simons. They are hidden and not near the tourist area. The names escape me at the moment. Just make sure you buy a daypass (or multiday) when you first get there. To get on Jekyll you have to pay a fee each time you unless you have a pass. There are no passes needed for St. Simons.

As for touring Jekyll, rent or take a bike. They have a great bike path that covers the entire Island. The Island is pretty small and basically only has two main roads. But the bike path weaves through some old ruins, wildnerss areas, and the like. Stuff that is very easy to miss with a car. With a bike, its also easier to navigate the historic area. The beach is great for looking for shark teeth. More sharkes live off the coast of Jekyll than anywhere in the world. Also, at night, the beach is pitch black. No big lights due to sea turtles nesting. So, take a flaslight and enjoy. Be careful as to remember where you came onto the beach. Its easy to get lost with no lights as landmarks.

Good Chow Between ATL and Charlotte? I-85

Houschton Cafe. Hwy 53 exit, the exit north of Chateau Elan. If headed north, turn right from the exit. Go past downtown Braselton, the Braselton city hall (huge white house) and the elementary school. You'll come to another town center (which is downtown Houschton). Just as you enter the "downtown" area, there will be a one-way street on your right. Very easy to miss. It right next to the City Hall (just look for the cop cars) and a little strip of restauraunts and shops. The address is 28 Bell Avenue, Hoschton 30548 and phone 706-654-1380. Good meat and 2 lunch. Awesome breakfast. Call ahead and they can have a biscuit waiting for you to-go.

Best Northern Virginia beer?

I will be visiting my brother in Winchester, VA during Thanksgiving and when I travel I try to grab some local beer to take back home (Athens, Georgia). I usually bring back Yuengling, since it can't be sold in Georgia. (Side note, Georgia has some real weird alcohol laws. I can get Yuengling in Alabama and S. Carolina, but not good ole' GA). However, I wanted to try something else this time. So, Northern Virginians, West Virginians (near Northern VA), Marylanders and Southern Pennsylvanians what should I bring home this time? I like all kinds, but prefer ales, stouts, and porters. Also, it has to be portable. So, no tap only microbrews. Lastly, if it's something I can't get at a nearby store, the limit is a two-hour drive max from Winchester. I can't be lugging the family all day for a beer run. Kind of makes the wife and kids cranky. As a back-up, I will be traveling I-81. So, if you know of something that's not to far from the interstate from Winchester to Pulaski, please let me know.

10 Best Southern Hotdogs?

Mickeys Hot Dogs in Buford, GA should be added to your list. For Georgia places, I place them just behind Nu-Way's and ahead of the Varsity.

Good place for dinner

My family and I will be visiting DC next month and I am looking for place for dinner. We will be staying downtown, but we are not opposed to riding the Metro or walking a few blocks. We are looking for something that is unique (or semi-unique) to DC and not too cheap nor expensive. Around $15 -$30 entrees would be optimal. Thought about Les Halles, but read reviews that it’s hit or miss. When making suggestions, please keep in mind that my daughters are 3 and 7. Thanks.
