ISO - Good Eats! Wilmington and surrounding area

The nicest are Marc's and Portland grille. Catch good but less ambiance.
Several other good choices in the noisy, fun, bar centric include
Brasserie and boca bay.

Lunch on the water at dockside is a must. Not so much for dinner.
Saltworks is good local lunch and trolley stop is famous for dogs.
Downtown is a whole different set of choices.

There are much better choices IMHO.

Marc's (our fav)
Portland grille
Catch
Caffe Phoenix
Deluxe
South beach grille

For lunch do not miss dockside on the water. Burgers, blackened fish,
And other tasty sandwiches. The beer battered onion rings are wonderful. Sweet potato fries also good.

Charleston Fine Dining (values?)

Been to both. While HC is good, it is not in the same league as Charleston Grill. In fact I just booked our group there for our 11th annual October vacation.

Greater Wilmington, NC area Eats

Try Marc's on Market. They have the best food in town, great service, and nice ambiance. The scallops, fish dishes, and specials are highly recommended. The mussels and lettuce wraps are don't miss apps. Be sure to ask for the coconut cake dessert which is made by the co-owner/hostess.

Wilmington Help!

Dockside is on the water and great fun. The seafood is good for simple, beach style. Fried is the best. The ambiance is great. For a notch upscale seafood, especiallt fish, try South Beach Grille on Wrightsville Beach. For fine dining including several top shelf fish dishes, try Marc's on Market.

All have websites with menus.

Fine Dining WITHOUT the Southern Hospitality: Magnolia Grill in Durham, North Carolina

We were at MG a few weeks ago and had a much different experience. My wife cannot eat peppers in any concentration. The crab cake appetizer was loaded with these to the point after one bite she was done. She explained to the waitress, who apologized, and removed the dish from the bill without question.

That is exactly the experience I would expect at a top notch restaurant. It is most unfortunated the original posted was not treated in the same manner. The Barkers would most certainly would not want a diner to leave with such a poor impression.

Greenville,SC Two Nights

We really like the American Grocery. Don't miss the pork belly app or entree.
They use all local and regional ingredients. Very good. Sobys is a fun bar, crowded place. Food is OK for the price. Don't miss the cheese biscuits or the tomato app.

Sunday dinner in Greenville, SC

We're headed back down for the Eagles show and looking for Sunday night options. We had a wonderful meal at the American Grocery during the holidays but it is not open on Sunday. Likewise for our other regular places - Sobys and Augusta Grill

So far my short list is:

Bluefire Grill - read some negative comments
Bonefish - good for a chain
Deveraux's - reportedly wonderful but too pricey for inlaws
other chains (zzzzz....)

Any suggestions welcome!
thanks

American Grocery - Greenville SC

While visiting inlaws over the weekend, we dined a the American Grocery. I had read about it many times on this board so we decided to give it a try. I must say it lived up to it's reputation. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The menu was filled with a variety of creative dishes made mostly from regional ingredients.

We choose the pork belly starter which is said to be a house favorite. The dish was an interesting mix of of house-smoked pork, apples, and brussel sprouts. It worked beautifully, making a superb starter which was both unique and delicious.

Our entrees were a tuna starter, seared perfectly to rare, and a wonderful honey glazed rabbit dish garnished with petite sauteed potatoes and turnips, and finished with a giblet broth. We split a chocolate torte for dessert.

I highly recommend the American Grocery as one of Greenville's finest.
