Mira Suggestions

My wife and I are staying in an apartment in Mira near the Brenta Canal, not far from Venice for 2 weeks in September.
Can anyone suggest or recommend any restaurants in that area for lunch and or dinner? Good local food in friendly atmosphere is required.

Francis Mallman 1884 in Mendoza Argentina--gone downhill? Other dining recs too

We had dinner at Francis Mallman in October. It was fantastic. We ate outside in the garden and everything was cooked to perfection.
Their wine list is to die for as they must have a bottle of everything ever produced in Argentina.
Things may have changed in the last few months but I can't rave enough about the service atmosphere and food presentation on the night we were there.

Best Restaurants in Mendoza?

Best restaurant by far is "Franmcis Mallman 1844" Fantastic atmosphere, surroundings and one of the largest wine lists you will see in Argentina. Food is magnificient.

Help Me Narrow My BA List

Piegari is a great Italian Restauant. We ate there about 3 weeks a go. Fantastic, but beware the portions are huge. 1 Plate of any of the pastas will be good for 2 people. Service was great and everything we tried was great.
Nobody should miss 647, by far the best dining experience in Argentina.

Tapas in BA

My wife and I are going to be in BA for a week from Oct 15. We are staying in the Elavage Hotel on Maipu near the Plaza San Martin. As we are flying all night from Canada to get there, we will not want a big meal the first night in BA. Are there any Tapas Bars in this neighborhood or the equivalant type of bistro or bar where one can get a bottle of wine and a few smaller portion dishes to snack on? What is the alternative in Argentina (first trip) to the Parillas and full service restaurants when one needs good food but not a huge meal.

New Year's Eve in Val-David

My wife and I are spending a few days in Val-David over the New Year's period.
Where shall we go in Val-David for a special meal and atmosphere on New Year's Eve?
I think that it is probably a choice between Les Zebres and Clementine. Which would be the better choice of the two or does anyone have another recommendation?

Far Hills Inn at Val-Morin

Thank you Bonne vivante

I have eaten at L'Eau a la Bouche and I agree 100%. I would rank her as one of the top chefs in the country. I am looking for something more casual this trip as we will be skiing our hearts out;( probably our legs as well.)

Couples Resort near Algonquin Park

My wife and I are considering spending a few days at the Couples Resort in Whitney, at the East entrance to Algonquin Park in late Jan for the X-country skiing.
We stayed at the resort several years ago and the food was not good (stuck in the 50's).
I understand that they have made some changes for the better in the last couple of years.
Has anyone stayed and eaten there since these changes took place and if so;
HOW IS IT?

Meal items to go???

I am going to be in Montreal for a couple of days between Christmas and New Years. We will be travelling back home to Kingston ON via "VIA" to celebrate New Years with friends. Are their any great locations to purchase prepared portions of meals to take home that we would be proud to serve on New Years Eve? The Cheese and Pate and Terrines are easy, but I'm thinking of the next courses, like special pastas or stuffed rabbit or guinea fowl or special meat courses along these lines. I am open to any suggestions for top quality products that can be heated and served with little preparation.
We are staying at the Fairmount so would be restricted to shopping within a short taxi ride away.

Ottawa @ little gems in the Market area

Just back from a great weekend in Ottawa. Stayed at the Marriot Courtyard in the Byward market. We didn't want to wander to far so just went for dinner wherever our feet took us. There are many good restaurants to choose from in the market area and a lot of not so good.
We got lucky I guess as both Friday and Sat we had good food and good service for reasonable prices.

Friday we ate at Mezzanotte Bistro. http://www.mezzanotte-bistro.com/

A delightful little Italian bistro with great sauces and a very respectable wine list.
My wife and I split a pasta as an appetizer (Pasta con pancetta
) Very good and lots for two.

I had Vitello alla Campagna
Fresh Veal Scalloppine stuffed with Asiago Cheese, Prosciutto & Portobello Mushrooms over a Brandy mushroom sauce.

My wife had the fish of the day which was superb.

The service was attentive and all the food was very good.

Saturday we found a gem. We just went down the block on Dalhousie and were lucky enough to get a window table in Cafe Spiga.
http://www.cafespiga.com/

This fusion of Portugese and Italian cuisine works terrific.

The service was great, they were more than helpful with the menu explanations and the wine choices worked perfectly.

I had Carne Alentejana, which was a slow cooked dish of marinated pork and clams and cubed potatoes. Wow, this was a marriage of flavours that only the Portugese can do so well. It was paired with aa wine from the same region (Tino de Anfora Alantego)Perfect! I had preceded this with Shrimp Piri-Piri. Shrimp kebab with a sauce to die for.

My wife had the seafood soup, again it was perfect and she followed with the fish of the day, which was a combination of 3 fishes in a fennel cream sauce. The fish was cooked just the way it wqas supposed to be. What more can I say. I will go back the next time I am in Ottawa. Great food and great prices.

Chef at Home in Prince Edward County

Hi Jenna

I don't know anyone in the "county" but there is a great chef in Kingston that we have used several times. He will come out and take over.

Give him a call and find out if he will go as far as Prince Edward County, if not he may also recommend someone else.

Ottawa Weekend.

We are visiting Ottawa on the weekend at the end of month. We are staying at the Marriot near the market. I need recommendations for 2 dinners, Sat. lunch and dim sum on Sunday, preferably all within walking distance. Good casual dining with a decent wine list, but no fast or sport bar type food. Preferably a chef and not just line cooks.

Any ideas???
