FOUND apple cider in Los Angeles

To all of you uprooted East-coasters like myself, I thought I'd share that I stumbled upon some honest-to-goodness cloudy, sweet, tangy orchard-style apple cider in the Van Nuys Target last night (refrigerated section). Label says it is flash pasteurized. I think it was even on sale, 1/2 gallon for $2.50. The same stuff you used to pick up in your grocery store back East. If you want to call first and ask, the brand they were carrying was "Pepin Heights" from Minnesota. http://www.pepinheights.com/

This is one of those Targets with the expanded supermarket area (produce/etc.), so I'd call first before you make a special trip.

Raspberry Puree

For the record - Surfas DOES carry the line of Les Vergers Boiron purees in their frozen case, and they are all seedless. They come in a 1 kilo frozen block (2.2 lbs) and go for about $24 (at least the raspberry does). Thanks for the help - I'm really glad I don't have to strain all of those seeds myself!

Raspberry Puree

I'll post back here when I'm done, but it looks like the Les Vergers Boiron line of purees is truly seedless (though probably not marked as such). I found that they sell that line at Nicole's Gourmet Food in South Pasadena. Still have to see if that's the brand they have at Surfas- I'll go there on a trip soon. Thanks for the help!

Raspberry Puree

I've tried Surfas already - they say they have puree, but it's not marked as "seedless." Kind of defeats the purpose...

Raspberry Puree

Hi all. So in a couple of weeks I will be making a wedding cake for my dear friend. Most of that I have covered, save one small detail - the raspberry filling. I made a small test for her at the beginning of all of this, and she emphatically chose my homemade raspberry filling (frozen raspberries, strained of seeds, thickened on stovetop with cornstarch, sugar and lemon juice) to all others, including jarred seedless raspberry preserves.

After doing lots of wedding cake math, I have discovered I'll have to strain 10 lbs. of frozen raspberries to get enough to fill the whole cake. People - I just do not have that kind of patience!

Does anyone know of a place in the LA area that I can drive to get pre-made raspberry puree (seedless)? I don't care if it's frozen or not. It would save me a TON of work! (Alternately, does anyone have any greatly improved method to do it at home over the usual "push it through a strainer" method?)

Thanks so much!
