First time visitor to Haines City

Haines City doesn't have many good dining options, but you can make the short drive to Lake Alfred and enjoy Gary's Oyster Bar & Seafood, Luigi's Italian Restaurant and Lang's Sun Country Groves (for lunch only).

Luigi's is authentic Italian and it's amazing.

Also, if you want authentic Mexican in Haines City, go to La Tapatia Grocery on 17-92 and order a Torta. Hope you can speak some Spanish, because they will look at you crazy when you try and order in English. It's really tasty and totally worth it, though.

One BBQ Meal in KC Can't Decide b/w LC's and Jack Stack

We went to Jack's Stack and I had the rib combo, cheesy corn & baked beans. The lamb ribs were quite flavorful. It was excellent. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich, which is huge. We thouroughly enjoyed our meal, and will go to LC's on our next trip. Thanks for the feedback.

I am spearheading the trip, but I have to keep her happy. I have gotten some great feedback and I think I'm going to direct her to this post and let her make the final decision.

Best Florida Road Food

Just off US 27 in Lake Wales is the Cherry Pocket. Good food and cold beer (if that's your thing). Fantastic Desserts.

Anything Good in Gainesville?

I agree with the previous suggestions, but would also have to mention Ballyhoo as an excellent choice for dinner. It does get crowded but we always had luck grabbing a seat outside (first come, first served). Try the stuffed grouper and bananas foster (featured on ESPN's coverage of the UF - Auburn game)

Best Pizza in Lakeland?

Pizza Connection is excellent, thin crust pizza. Also, Pizza Central in Winter Haven is good thin crust pizza as well, though not as crunchy as pizza connection.

Really?? I loved that place. I also miss Joe's Deli tremendously.

Fun places in Gainesville/Jacksonville

The Swamp Restaurant on University across from the real swamp (Football Stadium) is great for people watching, sitting outside, enjoying the energy of a college town. The food is American, but is pretty good.

One BBQ Meal in KC Can't Decide b/w LC's and Jack Stack

Unless they are open for breakfast. Unfortunately, we will only have one meal in KC.

She's not as adventurous as I am when it comes to trying different places, but the main thing is that she can't do greasy, finger-lickin' BBQ, which is what I actually prefer.

Restaurants that personify "Old Florida"

I would have to recommend Peeble's BBQ in Auburndale, FL. It's in an old chicken coop, with no air conditioning and a dirt parking lot. Only open Thursday - Saturday and closed in the summer, but they have some of the best chopped pork, pork ribs, and sauce you'll ever have.

Another recommendation from this area is the Cherry Pocket in Lake Wales. It's been around for years and rumor has it that the men used to ride through on horseback to get a drink. Kind of like a Old Florida drive-thru.

My wife and I are coming to Kansas City in a few weeks for a Garth Brooks concert and will be able to hit up one barbeque joint for late lunch / early dinner on Saturday. I have been trolling the boards for weeks and have narrowed it down to two choices:

1. LC's. I like the hole-in-the-wall type places that are unique and have a certain history. This is by far my top choice.

2. Jack Stack. My wife would be more interested in this type of place because she is not as adventurous as I am, and because this is a little more upscale, she will probably feel more comfortable.

I have heard that the freight house location of Jack Stack is better than the Plaza location. This is one opinion from one chowhounder on another thread from 4 months ago. I would appreciate any input on this as well.

Thanks for the input.
