Car for a day
Thanks guys! I guess I should have specified, I live in Greenpoint so Polish food is not so exotic for me. I love the pickle soup at Lomzynianka and Krolewskie Jadlo!
Car for a day
I have a friend visiting my place in Brooklyn and I'd like to think of a fun place to visit in the city and have a good & inexpensive meal that's a little out of the way by public transportation, and ok for a cold day. Where would you go?
some ideas I had:
- Brighton Beach
- Flushing for a dumpling tour
- Red Hook bar crawl
- City Island seafood
- DiFara
Thanks!
Healthy & Inexpensive in Barcelona?
Thanks PBSF!
I had been to Cercerseria Catalana and had a great time. I was recommended Cal Pep but it was closed when I went, so I went to the Origens nearby (but I think it might be a separate chain with a similar and confusing name)? It was good, but the best meal I have had so far on my trip was at Paco Meralgo (http://www.pacomeralgo.com/). The white beans and octopus dish was the tenderest of either I have ever had, and the waiters were so nice and helpful.
I also wandered into a place called Miriot in the Gracia district for lunch one day, and the set price lunch for 10 Euros was absolutely amazing!
I have a few days left on my trip and I think I might return to those two places.
Healthy & Inexpensive in Barcelona?
Hello. I am a young single New Yorker staying in Barcelona for about another week. I fear I have already gained 5 pounds from all the wine, cheese and patatas bravas I have been consuming.
Does anyone have any recommendations for healthier places for dinner? Maybe that focus on light seafood and vegetables? I am staying in Eisquerra Eixample and would travel to areas that are safe for a young woman at night.
Thanks!
Ichiran in Greenpoint
I filled out an application months ago and never heard anything.
Reuben sandwiches
Thanks guys! Katz's sounds great - if I can't find anything I'd like to eat there I can always grab something at Bereket or somewhere else nearby.
Reuben sandwiches
A college friend who lives in Maine now is visiting next week. I asked if there was any food he missed and wanted to get in NY during his visit, and he complained that there is no good deli food where he lives and he is dying for a good reuben sandwich. I am a vegetarian so I am not sure about where to go, but I'd like to be able to recommend the best spot. Any tips?
Veg-friendly Italian in LIC/Greenpoint vicinity?
I don't think there is any memorable Italian in Greenpoint - but you might want to look at Aurora in Williamsburg for a more modern vibe or the old red-sauce places near Graham like Frost, Cono's or Bamonte's.
Comfy near Carnegie Hall
I'd love to try Molyvos - but the least expensive entree is $24. We've been to Puttanesca before and have found it very loud
Comfy near Carnegie Hall
I'm meeting my father for a late dinner near his office near Carnegie Hall tomorrow, and would love to hear some recommendations for moderately priced (entrees under $20) restaurants in the area. Cuisine is not as important as ambiance - it shouldn't be too loud or touristy.
Thanks!
Quality Chinese Food in Greenpoint / Williamsburg Area
Shanghai Lee reopened on Franklin Ave. I've never eaten there so I don't know if it is still any good. http://www.shanghaileeny.com/index.html
I usually order from Chinese Musician if I want reliable neighborhood delivery-type Chinese, or go to M Shanghai or leave the area for more authentic food.
Top Polish in Greenpoint?
Karczma is a newer place on Greenpoint Ave between Manhattan and Franklin that is done up like a Polish style beer garden - the waitresses were dirndls and it is quite fun.
I would probably add that to the list and maybe take off Christina's? I haven't tried Pyza and Polska Restyranska but the other two are really good.
New + Wonderful Taco Truck in Williamsburg
I think this is the same cart that was parked outside of Brooklyn Industries on Bedford around N8th for awhile and around N11th before that. Not sure why they are moving around but I agree that their food is good!
Recession Eats!
I'm living in Greenpoint and am unemployed.
I noticed that Baker's Dozen bagels on Manhattan sells a dozen bagels on Wednesday for $6 - I am thinking I could slice them and freeze them to save a little bit.
And Papacito's has tacos for $1.50 at lunch time!
Has anyone else found any more deals?
Absinthe in Brooklyn?
They have it at Hotel Delmano in Williamsburg. The place is really cute but I have had problems with the service provided by cocktail waitresses, especially in the back room. I'd recommend going on an off night and sitting at the bar or front room.
election day in Germantown
I am going to be volunteering at a poll site all day near La Salle in NW Philly. I will be in need of coffee and good food to make it through the day, and am not familiar at all with the area. Can anyone recommend and quick & tasty places to check out for when I can get away for a little while?
Thanks!
soup in greenpoint?
The Garden has good soups at their deli section, and usually a veggie option. Lomzynianka and Krolewskie Jadlo both have vegetarian borscht and a delicious pickle soup that they have assured me is vegetarian but I suspect may have chicken broth.
Stumptown coffee at Boerum Hill Food Co.
I live in Greenpoint but was down on Smith Street today and I am out of beans so I stopped in at Boerum Hill Food Co. to pick some up. I was nicely told by the guy working behind the counter that they were sold out of bags for sale, but would have more later in the week. No big deal, I thought, I'll just take the G up to Brooklyn Label and pick up a bag there on my way home.
So I get in there about 4:10, the door is wide open, the restaurant is half full, the cashier is counting money and says that they are closed so he can't sell me the beans. It doesn't matter that they have bags and bags of them and I don't need anyone to help me. It doesn't matter that I have exact change. It doesn't matter that half the tables still are eating and for sure haven't paid. What has happened is that they have lost me as a customer, and Boerum Hill Food Co. will be seeing me again in the near future.
greenpoint mini update
Looks like Little Korea has already closed - the windows are all covered up in brown paper.
Fish Tacos in williamsburg/greenpoint/bushwick area?
Papacito's - the new place on Huron in Greenpoint has some pretty good fish tacos. Enid's has a fried version that is sometimes good, mostly not so great.
Raw Oyster Happy Hour (or otherwise) in Brooklyn?
the new place next door to (and with the same owners as) Coco 66 on Greenpoint Ave has an oyster happy hour.
Donuts
I live right down the block from Peter Pan and I see them refilling the donut trays throughout the day. I bet you could just ask one of the waitresses if any are still warm.
I am not normally a donut person either but I love the chocolate cake and whole wheat donuts. Their bagels and egg sandwiches are pretty good too.
Healing chicken soup - Greenpt/Wburg
I've caught the bug too and I think I am going to go for the pickle soup at Lomzynianka or Krolewskie Jadlo. Not exactly what you are looking for but I think it might do the trick.
a ramen shop comes to greenpoint
Does anyone have any more updates? My friend walked by and said it looked open the other day, and then closed again the next.
Need a new favorite place for family birthday meal
I need to make a reservation for a birthday dinner with my family for a Friday night in October and I'm at a loss for ideas.
IItalian and French are probably safest for this group, as long as there are good seafood options. In the past we have enjoyed Lupa, Artisanal, Balthazar, Grange Hall and Lavagna. I need a new favorite in a similar price range to any of these - hopefully below 23rd Street and not too loud or trendy on a Friday night.
Thanks!
Non-Starbucks Super-Strong Coffee in Times Square?
I like the coffee at the 'wichcraft kiosk at the corner of Bryant Park at 42nd and 6th. I'm not sure if it'd be strong enough for you but it might be worth a try.
Help a vegetarian find his seitan (gluten "meat")
I like Curly's Lunch on East 14th Street (my favorite is the vegetarian cobb salad) and the Vegetarian Dim Sum House.
Kate's Joint in the East Village and Williamsburg might be a good option too - and also Foodswings in Williamsburg if you are ever out in Brooklyn.
