WaWa closed in South River

Shocked! With all their expansions, to see the WaWa on Division Street is now a momzer convenience store, The Pantry! What gives?

I ate there last Saturday. I wonder how many funerals they caused?

The food was horrible...and so much of it!

A waitress who never refilled the Iced Tea and water without flagging her down. The cinnamon bread (which I brought my daughter to the place for, as she love cinnamon buns) agreed it was like a rock (the cheesebread wasn't bad).

I haven't been there in about five years. I think the food was a remnant from my last trip.

Isn't a hamburger supposed to have a taste? Who needs it so big...we're not at Harold's Deli! Just serve a smaller one (that doesn't crumble like Roseanne Barr's crumbled meat)...and half the price.

My wife pronounces the name Mas-tor-ees...as if it was the possessive tense. I told her to skip the apostrophe. There is no catastrophe in the name. Just in the food, service and price. Isn't that enough?

Probably safer to just go to Stuff yer Face or White Rose System when in New Brunswick,

Don't need all the carbs, anyway

I remember a fellow in the 80s (?) who had a very good show on microwave cooking...his name started with a D.

Enough with the furshluggina chicken dishes at Indian Buffets, already!

Marsala, na na. Tikka Masala, Ah ha! I stand corrected. But you know what I'm talking about. I left out Chicken Curry.

Will agree...it is pretty good. Been going to Star of India (I think that was it...not the one by the Chinese Supermarket) since CVS was Caldors. But many others still have a lesser selection.

Thanks for the suggestions...as a sidenote, there's a pretty decent Pakisani-halal restaurant, Supreme, in Kendall Park on Route 27...they have Goat, an occasional lamb dish, curries in addition to other stews. And they only charge $8 weekdays. If they can do it economically, why not the northern or southern-style Indian buffets?

I went to one in East Brunswick last Friday...was good but they had only Tandori Chicken and Chicken Curry...the other steamtrays had veggie dishes. It was pretty good, but one other non-chicken meat dish would certainly have been appreciated.

And I see a trend I'm not happy with...cutting out salads. No lettuce-tomato-onion bowls, although they had mint and another chutney.

A shonda.

Tandori chicken. Chicken Marsala. Chicken Tikka. Chicken Vidiloo...

Enough with the the chicken dishes at Indian Buffets already! I've been to lots of them between Edison and Lawrenceville. I have chicken dishes coming out of my mehoxis already.

Can't they replace just one chicken dish for a lamb dish? A Fish on my dish maybe? A goat in my boat? I've been to one in Monmouth Junction a few weeks ago...FOUR CHICKEN entrees...not one other non-veggie type! As said in Cochin, "GEVALT!"

If the Colonel doesn't serve goat, why can't the Indian Buffets serve one of their steam trays with a little more variety? Ingredients cost a bit more? Well if I don't want to go because of the overabundance of pulkas and fleegles, they'll lose more by the loss of my revenue.

Friends who own Indian Restaurants...pull up your standards. You don't go to Baskin Robbins and get a three-scoop vanilla cone, do you?

Make a LAMB dish, for corn's sake!

Sukreah!

Pollo Tropical - East Brunswick

Two comments reflect lack of attention to the market:

1) Pollo Tropical is excellent. Have it when I visit mishpucha in Ft. Lauderdale. Glad one is coming here.
2) Now I lost one place that has Nathans, good Gyros, Kenny Rodgers and Arthur Treachers (and now here's the dear boy, himself, MEERRRVIN!)...(this place had all the food groups...vegetables, vitamins, starch, hypocondriacs...who needs more?)

Nu? They couldn't keep the Miami Subs with these good combination of restaurants and just moved onto the nextdoor property, a furniture store that already is vacating? Nice if we had ALL opportunities. Not knock the Miami sub down to put in a Ft. Lauderdale place!

I've passed Conte's many times on Witherspoon St in Princeton many times...never realizing it was a Pizza place until recently. Anyone familiar with it?

GOOD Jewish Bakery in Brooklyn???

YOU LIVE NEAR TEENA'S? I lived on E 77th by Ralph Ave for 8 years! I didn't know they could still stay in business until now! Is the kosher supermarket there?

I remember getting my GI Joe "Action Figure" at the Pancake House on the corner back around 1964. Oy...how it changed.

And the bialies...the one thing my wanted to stay for.

GOOD Jewish Bakery in Brooklyn???

But when Isaac's was Ratchick's...ah machaiyah! The best rye, eyeglasses, elephant ears, bowties with enough sugar to kill a diabetic, and rugluch almost as good as my grandmothers.

The deli diaspora...we Jews left Brooklyn...but never established a new place to fress with gusto. What remains, feh!

Show me a good appetizing store already!!! With indian nuts, shoeleather, schmaltz herring, fresh pickled herring...matchez herring...(enough with the herring already!)...joyva gel rings and two kinds of Halvah...

Now all you can get in a supermarket is Salsa...not seltzer. Pulkas, not pulkees. Chinese buffets. Indian Buffets. American Buffets...but not one piece of kishke...chulupshkis...kasha varnishkes. Nan, panni, si! A shtickl pumpernickel with gribbinis? Am I asking to much to close my arteries just a little sooner?

WE NEED GOOD BAKERIES. With the noisy bread slicers. With the boxes with the red and white string tying machines...with the black and whites. The plain vs seeds. The sugar falling off everything. The machine you push the handle for the paper number that says 39 when they are still up to 17. WE WANT THEM BACK.

Have a good day.

GOOD Jewish Bakery in Brooklyn???

I assume they are still in business...for reasonable bialies and pletzels, try the store on the east side of Coney Island Avenue, a bit north of Avenue U. I don't know if Bell's on Flatlands by E 80 St still sell retail, but worth a phone call.

Kosher bakeries near DiFara (Isaac's)

How does Isaacs compare with the old Ratchiks that was on the same site...for elephant ears, bowties, eyeglasses, rye breads and especially bobkas?

Bagel Recommendations in Central NJ?

I heard that there was a good bagel place further down 516/Old Bridge (towards Rt 9), near Jake Brown Road, that has their water brought in from Brooklyn and their bagels are as good as Brooklyn-made. Anyone know if that's true?

Is it a sicilian or is it a square?

In Brooklyn Tech H.S. in the 60s, they taught us that the area of a circle is PI R Squared.

WRONG:

Sicilian Pi are square.
Neapolitan Pi are round.

Central Jersey Ice Cream

A pretty good place on Rt 27 in Franklin Park is Confectionary Yours, in the former Aranka's restaurant building. But by late August, they are moving a bit south into the old Stop & Shop/Edwards shopping mall, by Steinmart. (at Middlebush Road)

Great Rum Raisin.

Wa-Wa's Kona Coffee Si. Peru Organic, No!

The Wa-Wa's near me just stopped their Kona Coffee...which I found the best (and they really do a good job on coffee). In its place is a new Peruvian Organic, which is much more bitter and less pleasant.

Please....please....please...bring back the Hawaiian coffee.

Jewish "Dairy Restaurant?"

There were two dairy restaurants my folks took me to...at Eastern Parkway and Utica Ave (Brooklyn) was Famous Dairy (diagonally opposite DuBrows and my fathers TV store, Municipal Radio), and Dairy Restaurant on 72nd Street west of Broadway in Manhattan. Were there any in NJ?
