Best Pastrami Sandwich Joint in SF?

You might try Memphis Minnies in the lower haight. They make their own pastrami but only serve it on Wednesdays. Reuben is pretty good and the pastrami is hand cut so its a little thicker than most but a great sandwich.

farmerbrown sliding downhill?

I am not sure about sliding downhill since the one and only time I have been (or will go) it was very disappointing. My friend's fried chicken looked promising with crispy golden brown skin but the meat was so dry it was almost inedible. Also I ordered what they were calling Chicken Fried Steak which when it came out looked like a processed patty of mystery meat that was tough and to add insult to injury had almonds mixed into the crust. Overall a very poor experience and meal and I hope someone either gets their act together there or opens a truly good southern food place.

Twice-cooked pork?

Try Panda Country Kitchen on Geary (btw 11th and 12th) in San Francisco. The name leaves something to desired but don't let it deter you, it is as close to Grand Sichuan as you will find. I know I just moved last year from the NYC and had the same dilemma. Its not quite GS but still very good subsitute. Good luck

The Redhead- A new favorite place

Just tried The Redhead in the east village, last night for dinner and I have to say this is definitely worth checking out. I read the short article in the Times a few weeks back and wanted to try it out. The menu is fun and the food is great. The Fried Chicken is great as are the Shrimp and Grits. They even have a bacon peanut brittle. The chef must be from the South since I haven't had Shrimp and Grits this good since I was in New Orleans. Also the cocktail menu has some interesting stuff on there as well. Overall this is a great hidden gem that offers a laid back atmosphere, awesome food and drinks at the right price. I will definitely be back and would recommend it to anyone.

Tarte Flambe in NYC?

THE MODERN. No question.

2 Nights in NYC - BLT Fish and EMP?

While I think EMP is great and have a lot of friends who work there I think with the list of places you like I would suggest Gramercy Tavern instead. Less formal but still special and one best meals I have had.
