Kiki's Bistro
I used to go to Kiki's years ago. We would go a few times a year. We always had good food, service and wine. I used to swoon for their frites! I saw Check Please where it was feautred and am glad to hear it still seems to be perfoirming well. As the years go by so many established restaurants get lazy and let their food slide. It doesn't sound like Kiki's has done that. Enjoy!
Dinner for 1 near Hard Rock Hotel?
Besides pizza Chciago is known for its hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches. Where you are staying you can walk to a local area chain Portillios which has a classic hot dog and beef sandwich. Its a self serve place and they have beer to drink, I am not certain about wine. There will probably be a lot of tourists in the place, but the area you are staying in is full of tourists. They are located at Clark and Ontario] street, across from a new McDonald's , Hard Rock Cafe and Walgreens. On your walk there,if you walk down clark street you may find something else to try since there other places to eat on your way there.
Best egg-salad sandwich in Loop?

Whats Open DowntownThanksgiving day?
Hi,
If you are staying in the immediate Loop area, which is roughly defined as Lake st, Wells St, Van Buren and Wabash Ave, you will be dealing with hotel choices. Now, the food at 312 at the Hotel Alergo is good, their breakfast is my personal favorite, but costly. (It's $15.00 which includes coffee, tax and tip so its pricey) They make a french toast out of brioche with warm banana compote which I die for and I rarely eat bananas. My friends swear by the veggie omlets and traditional eggs and sauage. The food at lunch and dinner is also good and a little pricey, but I have not eaten there for lunch or dinner in a while. The Renissance Hotel on State and Wacker has a place to eat on the seond floor the name I think is Great Street or something like that. THe lunch and dinner has always been good. The service is good too. They have a breakfast buffet. I was in a wedding party last year that was held at the hotel and the out of town guests stayed there and told me the buffet was good .Also, there is a place called Petterino's which I am not certain if they will be open on T-Day,but you could call. They have a classic menu, steak diane, pasta dishes, sandwiches, I've tried most of the menu over the years it has been open and an rarely disappointed.
If you want Chinese food Chinatown is open all the time. The Phoniex on Archer Ave is where my Chinese friend and her family go. (of course do not order off the menu, but in fluent chinese excatly what they want.) The rest of us have to select from an extensive menu. It is excellent quality and a little more then a typical chinese place.
Pizza is all up to what your preference is, deep dish, thin crsut? Pizzeria Uno and Due are good, so is Giodarinos (sic) and Lou Malenattis, although Lou's pizza is a little different then the other named places.I grew up eating deep dish pizza and now only eat it when its served at an office party or someones house, my taste has really changed as I've aged! I am pretty certain you can order thin crust at all the above if you are frightened by 2 or 3 " of cheese.
If you are staying more toward michigan Ave you will have more choices, but I'm no longer the expert I used to be in that area since I don't spend as much time in that area as I used to.
Maybe you could re post with a more certain location of where you will be staying and people will respond. hope this helps have fun in chicago
Visiting from Duluth, need Chicago suggestions
For eastern european (Czech, Polish, Slavic styles) you cannot go wrong with the Riverside Resturant in North Riverside, IL, located at 3422 Harlem Ave. The food is very good, inexpensive and huge quanties. It has been there forever and offers eastern euroepan delights, duck, breaded pork tenderloin, svichova (pickled beef, not certain of the spelling) fruit dumplings and liver dumpling soup.
Also in Brookfield IL is Little Europe which has the same type of food as above. ALthough, at Little Europe they do a great strudel and sometimes if they have extra studels they leave them on top of the bar and you can buy them for $3.00 or something like that. Little Europe is located at 9208 Ogden Ave, Brookfield IL
The Healthy on Halasted in Chicago is a gold standard for these eastern european places. My family and I have been going there since I was in high school, which was a long, long time ago! My favorite are the Lithuanian pancakes which I now order plain with butter and syrup on the side. When I could eat everything in sight I used to order then with the cheese and fruit filling, which was a lot of food.
Also, for Mexican food Neuvo Leon in Chicago at 1515 W. 18th Street is fantastic. Most all of the Hispanic people I know go there a lot and it is most of their favorite places. It is a BYOB place. If you bring your own margaritas they will supply glasses with salt on the rims and limes. Very inexpensive and everything is good.
Hope this helps on the eastern european food for you.
