Ponte Vecchio, Old Bridge NJ

Just had Holiday Party dinner there. Service was ridiculous....over three hours to eat dinner. They overbook and then the kitchen cant accommodate. Entrees finally came out mostly luke warm to cold. Lobster tails over $42.00,... ice cold! I complained to the Manager and just got a "sorry". Unacceptable! Wont go back.

Seagrass Restaurant- Anyone?

Still my all time favorite all these years! Was there last night and had the most delicious special- Spicy Ahi Tuna over soba noodles with asian slaw. Loved, Loved, Loved it Kim and Janine! You two surely know your craft! My friends both had the Cod on the menu and were both all smiles too! PEI Mussels appetizer in fennel tomato broth with lots of bread for dunking and our usual favorite salad of Pears, arugula and ricotta salata. Don't miss it!

Surv Kitchen & Lounge ~ Manalapan

They are way out of line for a strip mall on Route 9- Good luck to them, but I won't be eating there for those prices either! They will never develop a "regular" crowd.

Brennan's Steak House in Neptune

I always go to Brennan's and I have always had a great steak there. I order the NY Strip and it never disappointed me. Plus you cant beat the value. The steak comes with a nice salad and potato/rice and usually green beans. The sweet potato fries are very good- I think $1.00 extra. I am pretty fussy about my steaks and have tried other steakhouses that are a fortune and have been extremely disappointed, especially when paying top dollar. Weekend nights are a little noisy at Brennans so if you are looking for a quiet setting, it is not the place. Piano player Wed-Sun. Make a reserv on a weekend night and ask for a table not in the bar area. Good luck. I hope you like it.

Monmouth Co restaurants open so far

Wegman's deserves everyone's business in the Marlboro/Manalapan area. They were the only supermarket fully operational during the storm and after. They spend the money on being equipped with a powerful enough generator and should be commended for that. All their new stores are built that way. They had total refrigeration going at all times and were receiving deliveries every day. They saved our area from starvation and total panic. They were soooo well organized and the staff did its best to help people. They were getting ice deliveries every day and they were fully stocked with dairy, bread, produce, firewood, water, etc. Kudos to you Wegmans for a top notch operation. You have always had my business and always will!

Red Sky Restaurant - Keyport

Yes the on line menus reflect the higher prices- ie: the scallops were $18 the first month the restaurant was open. I went back and they were now $28 the next month. Steak was $20, now $28. Again, poor planning.

Red Sky Restaurant - Keyport

Went back a second time and was disappointed with my entree. I tried the swordfish tacos and honestly I could barely taste any swordfish. There was a thin strip of overcooked swordfish in each taco, so all I tasted was a mayonnaise based dressing and mango slaw- not happy at all. The mussels as an app were good, but think twice about the swordfish tacos. Even the house salad dressing was too thick and not as good as my first visit. My spouse's scallops were also unusually salty which was surprising since mine were superb the first time. In addition since opening a month ago, the prices jumped on some dishes by $5-$8. This was very poor planning and I was surprised to walk in and see everything increased in such a short time. The key to success is consistency and hopefully Chef James will make it.

Ocean grove Lunch recommendations

I highly recommend Seagrass- I have been there many times for both lunch and dinner. I love the Asian Tuna salad and the warm calamari salad and they usually have scallops or shrimp over salad- the scallops are amazing. They also have inside and outdoor dining and an extremely wonderful wait staff. Definitely my recommendation.

Red Sky Restaurant - Keyport

I was just going to reply to a post that was here a day or so ago that read "Red Sky-Fantastic" and I now see that it was deleted. Anyway, hopefully you won’t delete my post since you know I am certainly not new to the boards and that I am a fellow “hounder”. Well, I was at Red Sky for dinner for the first time this past Saturday night. They have only been opened for a month. Actually this thread sparked my interest as I always check the Board for new dining options. I enjoy other restaurants in Keyport (Drew’s, Nemo) and was glad to see yet another addition to the area. Although I am from Marlboro, Keyport dining is worth the trip. As a “hounder” I always approach a new restaurant hopeful, yet looking to evaluate fairly and critically if need be. Honestly, I could not find a single fault at Red Sky. Yes, the location is a bit off the beaten path, but who cares. The meal was wonderful. Three of us enjoyed each and every morsel. IMHO Chef James, the owner (he came out to introduce himself) has remarkable talent- all he needs is a chance as a new restauranteur and a following. The place is small but if all goes well, Chef James has plans to build an outdoor deck. We started out with delicious, warm, perfectly browned home baked rolls that tasted like a soft pretzel without the salt and just the right chive butter compound to accompany them. We ordered the shrimp dumplings, in which you could actually taste whole shrimp. The dipping sauce was a tangy , sweet chile sauce. We also had the corn fritters, which were crisped up just right and accompanied by a creamy remoulade. So far so good. Next came a complimentary salad, which we expected to be blah, since complimentary salads usually are. This one, although simple, was so fresh and beautifully presented on the plate. The wedge of tomato was one of the best I tasted all summer and the house sherry vinagrette was amazing. At this point I really was searching hard to find fault, but couldn’t. Two of us had the sea scallops, which were I think six or seven beautiful specimens from the ocean, browned to perfection in a superb lemon sauce, accompanied with extremely tasty diced potatoes, julienne vegetables and topped with what tasted like frizzled sweet potato. The remaining entrée was the Red Sky chicken, of which my friend did not leave a morsel. Enough said. There were two dessert specials not on the menu, a chocolate lava cake and Cinnabon- Tons. We opted for the Cinnabon-Tons, which were crispy rectangular sort of wontons, filled with the outrageous flavor of Cinnabons and topped with vanilla ice cream. Yum, Yum, Yum. The meal for the three of us including the tip was $95- Unbelievable for such a top quality meal. We will definitely go back and try some of the other appetizers and entrees and I hope that Red Sky can make a go of it, as it would be a shame for this chef’s talent to be wasted.

Still loving Nemo. Our new favorite dishes are Thai Curry Casserole and Singapore noodles with chicken. My old favorites, Lemongrass Shrimp, Wok Glazed Ginger Beef and Chicken with Thai Basil are still winners too and consistently good.

Asian Food Market coming soon in Marlboro

I agree RGR, when I approached the rear of the Asian Market looking forward to seeing the fish department, I was appalled by the extremely fishy odor. Fresh fish should not have a fishy odor and I literally gagged. Quickly passing the fish department, I was even more turned off by the look of the meat counter. My feeling is that the buy at Asian Market is the produce, if they keep the prices down and specialty Asian groceries if you need them. I bought a large bunch of Shanghai Bok Choy and a bag of peanuts in the shell. Total...$3.52, then I headed to Wegmans.

Blue Water Seafood - Red Bank

My daughter just had dinner there and enjoyed it very much. The menu is basically the same as the Blue Water in East Brunswick, but the prices are higher in Red Bank. You are paying for the Red Bank location and the venue in RB is much nicer ambiance than East Brunswick. The food is good in both places. I ate in the RB location over the summer and the Ahi Tuna was excellent and quite plentiful.

Thinking of going. Anyone been lately? Have not seen any recent posts. Do they get a dinner crowd on a Saturday night or mainly a bar crowd? How is the food since the departure of Chef D'Ennery?

Is it me, or is Fairway in Paramus taking a turn for the worse?

I wish they would open a Fairway here in the Marlboro/Manalapan area. Wegman's prices keep going through the roof and I find that their produce has not been up to par lately at all. I love Fairway and have been to the Paramus store when visiting friends. It is wonderful...and yes, they carry alot of items that can't be found elsewhere.
