Houston/NASA for business-lots of questions!
Try the Topwater Grill in San Leon about a 20 minute drive south of NASA. It's in a shrimpboat marina on the bay. Really fresh seafood which you Japanese collegues should enjoy as well as a trully Gulf Coast experience.

Second the Costa Rican experience, outside of seafood and steak it is a very uninspired cuisine albeit in a beautiful country with great people.

Littles is usually in the Zeigler parking lot on FM 517 in Dickinson. Zeigler's is a locally owned small supermarket.

The Topwater Grill in the Shrimp Boat Marina in San Leon, about 30 miles from downtown Houston is great for super casual waterfront dining in a locally owned joint. Put on shorts and enjoy the deck, food and Jimmy Buffet music.

Christain's Tailgate in Houston, both locations, has a positively ethereal burger. Check the Houstonpress critic Robb Walsh's review on their website a year or two back.

Cafe Montrose on lower Westheimer, close to town, has excellent Belgian food. Try the mussles and pommes frites.
leftover tomato paste?
Freeze or pour some olive oil into can to cover and put it in the refrigerator. It will keep a week or more no problem.
Is 14,000 BTU enough?
Get as many btu's as you can get/afford. You'll never want to cook on a lower output stove again. Growing up in the deli business I always dealt with stoves that could get many gallons of water boiling for potato salad etc, so when I remodeled our kitchen I went big. It's been great.
