Really Old Canadian Club (1973)
Okay, so while I enjoy whisky and scotch, I don't know as much about the subjects as I'd like. I have an old bottle of Canadian Club whisky that I inherited from my Grandma's (RIP) collection of very old things that probably aren't very good.
Does anyone think that my bottle of 1973 whisky will be any good, or is it a cheap whisky to begin with? It was already aged 6 years, so the dang thing is 41 years old!!!
Anyone? I'm almost scared to open it, considering how old it is. It is 86.8 proof. It may not be any good, but considering it's age, it will be fun to drink. :)

Snow cones in Texas - Best ones???
Oh my, I never knew the beauty of a true snow cone until the other day when I had my first, yes, first Texas snow cone. And it's no wonder! Like the corny dog, which I ate my first of last year... the snow cone was invented right here in Dallas, and sold at the Texas state fair.
Is anyone with me on this? Transplants to Texas... did you know what you were missing out on?
So, where is the best place to get a snow cone? The other day I had my first from a little booth in Keller. Jawlocking cherry and watermelon. Delicious! Nothing like the little balls of crunchy ice I've had elsewhere.
A true delight. Texas... you keep amazing me!

Taco Shop Hot Sauces
Thank you for being so detailed! Question though, am I using fresh chilies, or dried? Because a lot of the recipes I've seen call for dried. I see you mentioned dried later on, but I'm not sure if you can use either.

Taco Shop Hot Sauces
I moved to Texas about 8 months ago from San Diego and today I decided I wanted to make my own hot sauce. Now, I'm not looking for tabasco, or Tapatio or Cholula... I'm looking to make hot sauce that you get from the Mexican Taco shops strewn about San Diego.
Specifically, I greatly enjoy the orangy hot sauce of some of the corner shops... but I'll settle for anything.
Does anyone have any receipes they'd be willing to share? Recipes for shredded beef tacos are accepting applications as well.
Gosh I miss home...

Graeter's Ice Cream
Graeter's is only about $10 a pint and 6 or 12 pints in an order depending on where you ship it. I just got some and I'm very happy about that... regardless if they don't hand paddle anymore.

Graeter's Ice Cream
I saw a blurb about Jeni's Ice Cream on the FN as well... is it worth shipping? I'm interested in the salty caramel.

Fat Tire Beer
i first had fat tire in boulder before it got really popular and thought it was fantastic. went to then home california and saw it popping up everywhere. at bars on tap, restaurants, at 7-11 even. i heard it was being distributed by heinekin? not really sure, but now that i'm living in texas i can pick it up at target and cases from costco. maybe you can find it at costco? good luck... it's well worth the hunt.
and ps. i don't think it's a small microbrew anymore.

Graeter's Ice Cream
When I was a kid growing up in Ohio my parents took me to Graeter's for a treat. Little did I know how special it really was.
I just got some shipped for my bf's birthday since he grew up in California (as did I for part of my life) and my goodness... it's even more delicious than I remembered!
My sister and I used to see who would get the biggest chunk of chocolate. How do they get the chocolate so soft???
Has anyone else had the pleasure of eating the creamy soft goodness that is Graeter's... or do you have any local treats your parents used to take you to that you can't get anywhere else?
I feel like singing... heaven... I'm in heaven...

Your favorite steak - and how do you prepare it at home?
I love a simple steak. Usually sirloin, salt, pepper, olive oil and then some splashes of Worsteshire once on the grill. Always turns out delicious.
Or... Adolph's 15 minute marinade (I think that's what it's called) makes a tasty steak in a jiffy. Really.

Biscuits 'n Gravy
I guess I'm looking for the real gravy... with ham or sausage. I don't even know! How it's possible to crave something I've never had is beyond me.
And no... I haven't tried grits yet. As much as I love eating, I must admit I'm a virgin to many, many good eats. What do you suggest?

Biscuits 'n Gravy
So... believe it or not I've never experienced biscuits and gravy, but then again I'm not a Southern girl.
In any case I've found myself with a strange craving for this meal when I've never even had it before! Any suggestions? I'm in DFW.

Looking for Chinatown
Hey hey...
Does anyone know of a good Asian marketplace around the DFW area? I live closer to Fort Worth. It can be Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese... whatever. I'm looking to shop for all the fun stuff and goodies that Asian markets have.
Also, are there any decent Chinese restaurants around either? It doesn't have to be authentic... but better than all the buffets I see around at least. I love lo mein and bok choy.
Cheers!

Must Eat's in DFW
Yes, I've been there and I like it a lot. Then someone crushed it for me by telling me there mashed potatoes are instant and some other things. But it's still good, especially when you don't feel like cooking!
I'm going to have to open my own sandwich shop I think!

Visting for a weekend...
Hi! I'm visiting Austin for a weekend after having just moved to the DFW area from San Diego. I'll be attending a weekend music festival that doesn't allow for much time to peruse but thought I'd ask about some affordable places to eat.
I may stay an extra day. Are there any places I must eat? Also, are there any late night eats that are great? The show is over both nights at 10pm.
Also, I'll be pretty grubby from seeing rock and roll all day so I'm not looking for fancy restaurants where I have to look nice. Just casual good food!!!!
Thanks!

Must Eat's in DFW
Hello! I'm fairly new to the area. Specifically, I live in Tarrant County. I'm curious about all the little hole-in-the-walls or fantastic places to eat around my neighborhood and DFW in general.
My favorite eats are authentic Chinese, Indian, and Greek, gourmet-type sandwiches, and comfort foods/America classics.
I'm looking mostly for non-chain types of places, as well as funky local eateries that aren't your typical 'Texas' restaurant. With that said, however, I'm also looking for great 'Texas' restaurants.
In any case... I'm looking for great food!
PS. If it helps at all... I'm obsessed with Central Market...

Best local-to-Texas beer
If you are in the Fort Worth area you should check out The Flying Saucer (http://www.beerknurd.com/). It's the only place I've really gone to since I moved here from California... but they have tons of beers and some locals. I think I even got a Texas brew sampler...

Shredded Beef Tacos
Hello All!
I'm new to the DFW area and aftering having lived in San Diego for 17+ years I'm both used to and addicted to shredded beef tacos. Alas... all of Texas Mexican seems to be ground beef, Tex-Mex. I'm not a fan.
Can anyone suggest any Mexican restaurants that have shredded beef or are somewhat similar to California Mexican?
Thanks y'all... :)
