10 people, $20/pp, any ideas?

The subject pretty much sums it up: going out with 10 friends, looking to spend about $20/pp (not including drinks) as some people don't have more to spend than that. Centrally located as some live in Queens, Brooklyn, UES, UWS but then again, centrally located may mean Times Square = tourist trap and too $$$. So location is secondary to cost and being able to accommodate a large party.

Cuisines - Asian, Italian, American are preferred. Any help would be great as most of the places I've thought of are too expensive!

Midtown East Biz Dinner "where the locals eat"

That's the tricky thing. I'd say ideally entrees around $20-$25 a person. Is that doable?

Midtown East Biz Dinner "where the locals eat"

I had a request for a business dinner to pick a place "where locals eat" and it's a business dinner that the other guys are paying for. I don't want to pick a place that's too pricy. Any suggestions in the Midtown East or nearby areas?

Dinner for 14 people, 3 kids @ 6pm?

Yeah - we just went ahead with Tony's - have done it for groups before and wanted something different but it just seems easiest!

Dinner for 14 people, 3 kids @ 6pm?

Need a place slightly nicer than a chain (no California Pizza Kitchen, etc) for 14 people, 3 kids (ages 6, 3, 1). I also don't want too nice because a group of 14 and 3 kids could ruin the ambience for anyone wanting a quiet/high-end dinner! I know it's a huge group and tough. Looking for cuisine that's fairly easy for the kids but also a bit variety for adults. Any thoughts? My first instinct was an Italian family style place.

Where can I buy Girl Scout Cookies?

I believe their headquarters are in midtown (around E 34th). 12 boxes minimum to ship? That's a lot of cookie!

cheesecake?

I love Junior's and many people forget they have a location in Grand Central Terminal (downstairs where the trains are).

Outdoor Dining w/ Dogs - 2008

I think the other important thing to remember when calling is that many restaurants, during the warm months, put up barricades and require that you have your dog on the outside of the barricade. Ask about that if you are/aren't a fan of it!

2 babies at a moderately nice restaurant?

My mom is coming up for her 60th birthday, and there are 6 adults and two babies under the age of 1 for dinner. One can sit in a high chair, the other one needs either her car seat at the table on a chair or in her stroller at the table. This will be for a Friday night (we're willing to go earlier to score a table).

I know this is a tall order for a restaurant, because we don't want somewhere that is so noisy we cannot hear each other speak, but also not quiet/romantic because we have a 6 month old and 10 month old with us and don't want to ruin other diners' meals. As far as cuisine goes, Italian, American (classic or new), brasserie-style would be our picks, but really a better restaurant for 2 babies is more important than cuisine. Only cuisines that are out are Indian and Vegetarian.

In terms of how nice, something nicer than along the lines of Rosa Mexicano (as an example), but not 4-star restaurant nice. Any suggestions? A 60th birthday doesn't come around often, and neither does the need to have two little ones out to dinner at once!

Strollers but not chain places Midtown East?

Looking for new places to take our newborn to for dinner (not for her to eat of course but places that have room for strollers). Do most people just call restaurants ahead to see if they can accommodate a stroller? I know places like California Pizza Kitchen, Outback Steakhouse and most diners accommodate, but I'm looking for places that are still fairly casual but a bit better cuisine.

Any suggestions? Brunch, lunch, dinner? Thanks!

Strollers in Restaurants

I know lots of the chains are stroller friendly, though really weak choices for food itself (i.e. Outback Steakhouse, California Pizza Kitchen, etc). On this topic as well, does anyone have specific recommendations for midtown east or the UES that are stroller friendly? I'm a new Mom and don't want to show up with my baby and have no place to put her!

Zoe Townhouse?

Going to Zoe Townhouse early next week. I know they opened in June - any reviews other than what's already on the boards? Any not-to-be-missed dishes? Thanks!

Help with Cafes around Bloomingdales

I think you mean Brasserie 360, right? It is laid back with good food, but I must say every time I'm there the service is terrible. There's also lots of beautiful waitresses if you're the self-conscious type (just throwing it out there, not making judgements).

easy, cheap eats near Madison Square Park

Looking for a place within a few blocks of Madison Square Park that's fast and easy and relatively inexpensive to eat (no, not Shake Shack - lines too long). Can be extremely casual along the lines of a sandwich/salad place. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Alaskan King Crab Legs

Friends and I have a craving for Alaskan king crab legs and want to go to a restaurant in Manhattan that serves them. Any suggestions? Oyster Bar (Grand Central) seems overpriced, but looking for a great place to go specifically for that.

Would've searched the forum but the search feature was down for me when I posted...

Thanks in advance!

Dessert/Coffee near Bowery/Prince?

Looking for a casual dessert and coffee place near Bowery and Prince Street. Just for 6 people to sit down around 9:30PM -- not too trendy or crowded, but just easygoing and fun. A step up from a diner/coffee shop would be great.

Thanks!

Getting food in your garbage disposal

Not illegal at all. Would rather not use a utensil that I use for cleaning veggies to push egg shells, raw meat, etc in a disposal. Any other ideas?

Getting food in your garbage disposal

Instead of using my hands or a piece of silverware, do any stores make anything that you can use to shove food down your garbage disposal? I think I once saw a plastic rounded object at a friend's house but she didn't remember where she got it.

I live in NYC - know of any kitchen stores that might sell something like this? I don't think they had anything at Bed, Bath and Beyond (seemed like a place that might carry it). I'd also buy online if needed.

Moderate priced near 86th/3rd?

Looking for a moderately priced restaurant (no entree over $16ish unless it's a big steak) near 86th and 3rd. Cuisine preference: Italian, American, French Bistro... no Indian, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Spanish.

Any ideas? Thanks much!

sushi place for 6 people, not too quiet/refined?

Trying to plan a dinner for 6 people to go have sushi, but we tend to be a talkative and slightly noisy bunch (not drunk talkative... just talkative). We don't want to go to a place where people will stare at us if we are being a little loud.

Any suggestions where to go? Not a place that breaks the bank, either (around $6-$8 for 'typical' rolls...)

Thanks!

Interesting chow in Midtown

Sushiya on 56th between 5th and 6th is great, inexpensive sushi. They also have lunch specials (bento boxes) that are a good value.

Early Sunday dinner around Bloomingdale's

If you do go to F&O, ask them to go easy on the oils. It's definitely their 'theme' but they really use way too much unnecessary oils on some of their dishes (I had the trio of skewers which was divine), and the food is just as good without so much.

sushi takeout in east 50s?

Fusha (58th and 1st). One of the few places I find is also awesome delivery for sushi (not easy to come by). Don't confuse with Fusia (similar name!).

30th Birthday for my wife

Be careful doing a surprise - it seems your wife also uses this account, correct? Clicking your handle (kgnyc) shows this:

That being said, do you have a budget in mind? I know Trattoria Dopo Teatro (right in Times Square) has some beautiful private spaces downstairs... their food is not 4 star but the prices are reasonable, too.
