Post dinner cocktails/coffee/dessert Italian market area

Thanks everyone! La Golosa would have been a perfect dessert option. Bummed that it's closed. Will try to check it out another time.

There's 10 of us so easily jumping in the cab might be tough. If it's a nice evening, I'm sure we'd enjoy a short walk :)

Dibruno Bros (Italian Market) - Private Shopping Experience/Tasting

Thanks for your comments (& beverage suggestions)! Plan to go with a bunch of girlfriends in late July/early August so will be sure to report back. All Saturday evenings are booked through the end of the summer, but there is plenty of availability mid-week and limited openings on Friday.

It seems odd to me that it's $200 for the first 8 people and then $40/per person after that. I thought that perhaps they are trying to keep the number low because the shop is small, but they told me they could accommodate upwards of 75 people. Would love to up our number to include more people, but it just doesn't seem fair. Hmm . . .

Dibruno Bros (Italian Market) - Private Shopping Experience/Tasting

Was hoping to get some feedback from any chowhounds who may have attended this kind of event at DiBruno's. Other than not bringing high end wines, does anyone have any beverage suggestions since the store offers attendees the option to byob. Thanks so much!!

Simon Pearce

I mentioned to my husband that I wanted to go to a restaurant, close to home, with a great outdoor view for out anniversary on Saturday evening. Has anyone been to Simon Pearce or know anything about the food there (i.e. menu vs specials etc.)?

Thanks for your help!

Cannolis near West Chester

Although I've never had them there, Carangi's bakery in Paoli (right on Route 30 near the Daylesford train station) has cannoli shells that they fill to order.

Kids and Post Museum Dinner

The museum closes @ 5 so dinner will be right after that. We are looking for good, casual food ($12 or so adult average entree price)

Thanks!

Kids and Post Museum Dinner

Any advice on where we (4 adults) can take 5 kids for dinner after a Saturday afternoon at the museum? We're thinking south philly or chinatown, but we'll have cars so driving anywhere won't be a problem. Something reasonably priced and kid friendly will be ideal. The adults are not so interested in fast(er) food, but good pizza as a menu option would be fine. In general, we are all (some of the kids included) adventurous eaters.

Thanks for your help!

Carluccio's Restaurant (BYO)

There's a new BYO restaurant in the Italian Market area (located in the old Shank and Evelyn's on 10th Street between Washington Ave and Christian St) that is fabulous! My whole family (including 4 kids under 8) practically filled this small place and enjoyed every morsel. Particularly delicious was the spring mix green salad topped with very tender octopus and calamari and the homemade pasta (pappardelle with wild mushrooms, ravioli in vodka sauce and the lightest gnocci). The scallop appetizer was also cooked perfectly and the branzino fillet looked delicious (I did not have any room to even try it). For meat lovers there was also a 32 oz rib eye on the menu and a rack of lamb. My parents and 95 year old grandmother declared everything delicious and that is saying a lot from people born in Sicily who never eat Italian food out. Unfortunately, there is a small step at the entrance so it is not handicapped accessible. My grandmother had some difficulty entering. Also, the bathroom is through the kitchen. A bit strange, but my kids loved seeing all the action.

Brunch at Nectar

Azie on Main no longer serves brunch. They recommend brunch at the restaurant downstairs (Mixx), but it may be too new.

While I haven't been, I've heard that brunch at Georges may be a good option for us. Any feedback on the brunch at Georges would be great!

Brunch at Nectar

Thanks for your replies! I, too have been there for dinner, but never for lunch. It seems like my options are limited for brunch in the immediate area because we are a party of 12 and have 4 children included in the count. If there are other options I should consider please let me know. Thanks:)

Brunch at Nectar

How is brunch at Nectar in Berwyn? I've driven by and seen a semi-full lot on Sunday, but I don't know anyone who's been so would appreciate some feedback. Also, any great items on the brunch menu or anything to stay away from? It's not inexpensive so I'd like to get the most bang for my buck:)

Thanks so much!

Sunday Brunch - Upper Mainline

Trying to find a good location in Paoli/Berwyn/Malvern/Waye (in order of preference) for a good Sunday brunch for 12 (8 adults, 4 kids aged 8 and younger) on May 2nd.

We enjoy the food at the Classic Diner, but they do not take reservations and we are unwilling to take a chance. Was thinking Nectar since they take reservations and we have enjoyed several dinners there.

There is also Meridith's in Berwyn, but lunch there was mediocre and over priced. Perhaps lunch is better?

Spring Mill cafe is too far.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Picanha Brazilian Grill in NE Philly

Thanks so much for the info! I would love to hear your thoughts "pafoodie"? Are you going early in the evening? Also, does anyone know how much it currently costs for both kids and adults for the buffet on the weekend?

Thanks!

Picanha Brazilian Grill in NE Philly

Has anyone been to Picanha Brazilian Grill lately? We're thinking of taking my dad for his birthday (turning 73) and we will have 3 kids (ages 6, 4, & 2) with us along with my 92 year old grandmother. Is it kid friendly and handicapped accessible? What would be the best time to go on the weekend for the freshest food? We are thinking of having an early dinner (1pm). Also, I heard that if you bring limes and some type of liquor (cachaca?) they'll mix some drinks for you?

Thanks!

Best Cinnamon Rolls in or near chester co.

Here's a bakery I haven't personally been too, but have been hoping to visit. I think they might have what you are looking for. It's called weinrich's bakery (celebrating it's 46th anniversary so they must be doing something right) and is in Newtwon Square. Please let us know if you get there and what you think. Here a link to an article about it in the Inquirer: http://www.philly.com/inquirer/image/...

Good Luck!

Mimosa - Very Good BYO West Chester (East Goshen)

We had a wonderful meal at Mimosa this past Sat night (3/15). We were very hungry so we ordered 2 soups, 3 appetizers (not tapas), 2 entrees and 1 dessert. The mushroom soup (I believe from local mushrooms) was flavorful - not too creamy and arrived piping hot. We also had the duck quesadillas (very good), oysters rockefeller (also very good) and the crab napoleon (excellent). The crab was large chunks of lump crabmeat on a piece of phyllo dough and a very light sauce in small circles around the plate. The chef also sent out an amuse bouche of fried shrimp (just ok). I had the lamb special and my husband had the diver scallops. The lamb was pretty good (for some reason it was not extremely flavorful other than the crust on the outside), but the scallops were excellent. The accompanying sides were just ok (risotto with the scallops was a little mushy, the potatoes with the lamb were just mashed). There were also haricot verts and a few well-cooked carrot chunks on the plate. My husband had the homemade key lime pie, which he said was excellent. All of the desserts are home made. The coffee left a lot to be desired (both the caff and the decaf was much too weak), but hey, you can't have everything:) We will definitely be back. I'd like to try the 3 course prix fixe menu (wed, thurs or sun).

Has anyone been to Mimosa for the prix fixe?

Han Dynasty - Exton

Is Han Dynasty (Exton) worth a 20 minute drive? If so is there anything particulary awesome on the menu? I see they have a section called "authentic chinese" and I'm not completely sure what that means.

Thanks!

BYOB recs needed - toddler in tow

I agree with Philly Ray in that L'Angolo might not be a good choice. I was there with a toddler myself last year in April and it was a nightmare. There was absolutely no room for a a child to even walk around. Since we were there for a birthday dinner and couldn't leave, we took turns walking around the block with her till dinner was over:(

Best Pies in Greater Philadelphia area?

Highland orchard (in the west chester area) makes a great pie. Although I haven't personally bought one (dinner guests have brought them to our house) I think you probably have to pre-order it due to the high demand of the holidays. Good luck!

RUBASHKIN’S AARON’S BEST TURKEY

I called Trader's Joe's in Valley Forge and Ardmore and they will not carry the rubashkin's whole turkey for Thanksgiving. They will have their own "all natural" brand (not kosher) and Glatt's kosher turkey. I'm still going to continue to look, but I'm not hopeful:(

RUBASHKIN’S AARON’S BEST TURKEY

With Thanksgiving right around the corner I thought I'd try to locate this brand of turkey in the philadelphia area. It was "highly recommended" in the cook's illustrated ratings. I thought that asking the chowhound foodies would be a good place to start. Thanks for your help!

Best late-night dining on mainline

Thanks for all the responses. Since we were going out around 10:30 we had to use squashchick's criteria ("open and serving food") and went to TJ's everyday in paoli. I've been to gulifty's and found the food comparable to tj's (mediocre at best), but my husband was thrilled with (what seemed to be) over a hundred beer selections. I've been to all the other suggested places including the original theresa's (but not theresa's next door) for a non late-night meal. I hope to get to theresa's next door on my next late night dinner quest. Hopefully it will be good so I'll have a decent fallback place. In any event, my search still continues.
