Dragon Centre Mall Midland Sheppard Area Take Out

Got to check out the area, plazas, etc. and because I had extra time ended up to beat the rush hour at Metro Square in Warden Steeles area. So ended up enjoying a simple bowl of curry Laska that to my pleasant surprise as I ate more became wonderfully hot and spicy. Did not properly check out other stalls and selected two take out dishes. Thanks for info nevertheless!!!!

Dragon Centre Mall Midland Sheppard Area Take Out

warlock, they once had about 7 locations, but what I was told about the closings was that a group of businessmen supposedly set up the businesses to easily immigrate, but later on deciding to invest differently with the sad result that only one location remains. I will be there at the end of the month as the family will be returning from a vacation and not knowing when they will be here, a selection of foods to heat up will make it convenient. Usually, I have a lunch of Won Ton Noodle Soup and the take out order among my favourites would be the Singapore a thin curry rice noodle, the Bangkok a thick rice noodle with beef and black bean sauce, 1 or 2 orders of Yang Chow Fried Rice and for certain 2 orders of Curry Chicken, a Malaysian style curry that has to be amongst the very best available. One thing is if you has for lots of their small containers of chili in oil, do transfer them to a container at home because the heat eats the plastic with passage of time.

Thank you Charles, will go to Dynasty Centre Mall and hope the Malaysian place is open as well. Re. Noodle Delight, I have not been there for a few months and will still check it out when I go there at the end of the month, can't imagine a huge difference but of course things can and do change! Yes the Won Ton Noodle Soup is what I have for lunch while waiting for my take out orders.

Dragon Centre Mall Midland Sheppard Area Take Out

On business in the area Wednesday and would appreciate info on take out --- conditions good quality, will not need rice, median price, and especially to travel for several hours and be excellent leftovers for the next day and possibly evening Thursday. Of course expect Chinese, oriental, but any flavourful cuisine welcome. Thanks for any assistance, want to try a different spot, anyway will be at my regular stop at the end of the month, Noodle Delight over at Victoria Park.

Where's the best fried chicken in the GTA ?

Easy question to answer in the fact that the local KFC was lost years ago. The coating was less flavourful and that did matter less as it kept falling off, apparently a different flour type was used as that fired manager was sourcing from his ethnic origin, by that time the chicken was not fried, but the franchise was!

Thai Basils - where to find all three?

In case those not familiar with the location of Humber Nurseries, technically in Brampton, but for location, it is not more than a kilometer or so from Hwy 50 & Hwy. 27 crossing Hwy 27 on Albion Rd. on 50 to the west side, if at Hwy 7 you will have gone too far.

Flap steak at Asian market

At inexpensive Chinese fast food food servers, I gave up on any beef certain!y decades ago, taste and texture horrible, I'm sure still well worth avoiding today! Heavens knows what other tenderizers might be used!

Looking for the best smoked meat in Toronto

Just looking through this old thread, surprised nobody replied, well the place has been gone for decades, then located in the south east plaza at Bathurst and Steeles. The place was always busy, traditional Jewish deli. After a lunch, we'd buy some of their freshly sliced meats to take home,

New Ho King

I used to go to the Ho King when on Dundas Street near Spadina, don't know who owns the New Ho King. For the day both simply good dishes, and have only been to the new one once when after having seen the performance of legendary blues harpist/singer Lazy Lester. The food was even more appreciative at 2 a.m.

Caruso Gourmet Pizza in Bolton

By the way Baffo's Pizza in Bolton recently was locked up apparently their move to a a high scale cliental location, high prices for the food, having gone from 15 to 60 employees was not successful. It was once Bolton's only pizzeria and food was always an issue as to the probabilities of quality. often great pizza, more often not so. Caruso Gourmet Pizza continues to offer the greatest pizza and a few Friday's a ago, I opened the door to go in for a take out slice and had to leave, there was a line up of several dozen people. The chains continue to offer their inferior stuff, Pizza Hut long gone, but if in Bolton from out of town, sign in the book on the back counter at Caruso Gourmet Pizza!!

The Old Toronto Restaurants you make the wishes for the comeback

Do not remember much more about the Acropole, at Yonge and Dundas, the march up the steps to the second floor, great food , busy spot so easy to get to filled with a cliental varying from office workers, Greek restaurant owners running from their Canadian greasy spoons to have real Greek food. Yes, the Acropole was quite the place,!

Macedonian Restaurants in GTA?

Oh, heck, I did forget about Mr. Lombo so casually walking along a part of his restaurant, and as casually, without a breath stop dropping a few extra meatballs. He then would stand cross armed and waiting to approach your table....do you want more??? My favourite of this similar approach was his similar drop of more hot peppers!!!??? He would watch your enjoyment and ask if you want more peppers! We had to been there at one time or another at different tables/friends/etc.,

The Old Toronto Restaurants you make the wishes for the comeback

The Byzantium was my favourite on the Danforth and the food/operation as you say. These old style Greek restaurants much better than what you can get today and the food higher quality and much different than the Macedonian restaurants that served very homestyle great food. On Dundas, north side, above a religious store, there was another great one, fabulous food, very busy and I think it was called the Acropole.

Macedonian Restaurants in GTA?

True enough your statements are, was just hoping some group might proudly come out and create one old fashioned real Macedonian restaurant. And yes many Macedonians ran regular Canadian restaurants. Ironically in the heart of Macedonian restaurants, at the south west corner was Mary's Lunch where Macedonians had a regular Canadian operation, but they did just one thing different. When you ordered the 15 cent hamburger, it came one way, with only a very thin delicate tomato sauce that contained tons of delicious fried onions.

Authentic Newfie food

The Eton Tavern became all the busier when the Country Music Store further east on the Danforth closed and their own in store Saturday jam sessions obviously ended. The loss was sad, but the trek to the Eton for food was a bonus. Sadly I moved so long ago from Linsmore at Danforth & Greenwood, I miss much that Toronto offers.

Authentic Newfie food

Incredible to know the I'se The Bye song, classic, traditional especially East Coast music, best version by the late great Dick Nolan. You really are looking for a traditional and regional food. I should have read the replies, but I can say there once was a great Newfie grocery around Gerrard and Carlaw????, but in the recent past the Brampton area seems to be a source. Hope you have success but rushing to soon get for an appointment!

Grocery items that you can't find in Toronto (but you can in the states)

Decades ago, before we had no name brands, etc., I was in a Buffalo supermarket and the guy in front of me had a case of 24, brown plain box with almost no print naming beer and all I could think of is what a rubbish product it then was. Of course today there are some better beers, micro breweries, etc., but the great USA will never beat our Canadian beers from any level! The irony, I much later met a guy in Toronto that was then at Upper Canada brewery for a tasting. He not only was from Buffalo, but ran in the USA a club that weekly sent a 6 pack to it's members of a different brew from sources across the USA. What a lot of work and inspiration he provided to beer lovers. Of course, here in Canada, we can never have that level of beer sourcing, let alone allow me to join his club as I am in another country! So, things change from that dreadful looking 24 pack to an enthusiastic club, I could not be a part of!!

Chipotles in adobo sauce?

Right foodyduddey, I would suggest that many shoppers do not take time for a slow stroll through Supermarket International aisles. Always a possible source for many multi country items! I love these so much I always bring back from Mexico many tins at a third to a quarter the price, and I have GTA wholesalers I have been dealing with for decades, easier for one out in the GTA to acquire a larger available choice of sourced items!.

Macedonian Restaurants in GTA?

Wiley, by the way the name of the restaurant then being opened is perhaps as time goes by a lesser known fact. As many immigrants come to Canada knowing only their own language, thus Mr. Lombo let the sign maker choose the name of the restaurant GENEVA, So, no one ever to enjoy such cuisine, would really be throw off at such a name. I have had freshly full cooked meals there at 10 am, I have seen fire station staff come in with many pots to fill and take back to the station, I have been there when Mr. Lombo would at 5.30 pm or so himself mop the floors on and on!!! You could find yourself with seated nearby known popular personalities or someone who came vin asking for food and that individual enjoyed the same meal, but also was given a bag with a couple sandwiches!!!

Lazar, that certainly looks like the book because of the very distinctive central design, mine similar orange cover with orange plastic binding rings --- guessing yours is a later printing as I see " 40 Additional "{ --- ?recipes?}, probably a few gems among them!!! Having grown up in a home with Ukrainian and Polish cooking still widely available in the GTA, it was wonderful to actually have those fantastic Macedonian restaurants within minutes away

The title of the book is Traditional Macedonian Recipes, bought many decades ago at the Geneva Restaurant, although the Macedonian Church at 17 Regent Street used to sell them, seem to be origin of the book de to mention of Ladies Auxillary. Mine is a revised edition. Says Copyright Pending 1969! Absolutely excellent, no doubt long out of print, and with the Internet providing few less interesting recipes, the book has been a Goldmine!!!

good source for bread or pizza dough

Yes your pizza cooking system is the tastiest, fastest, etc., taking into regard the dough must sit on a pizza stone or utensil. Unfortunately, I find it easiest to seek out Italian bakeries within fairly local area or a neighbouring town to buy pizza dough, stills works well on the Barbie!

I understand exactly what you are saying, yes very many Macedonians ran Canadian restaurants, met lots of them. Even Macedonian churches offer Canadian food for their events! With decades having past and many examples of new cuisines having been introduced, it is just unfortunate that a culture with a fairly large population just does not portray an outlet representing their history in Toronto. The saving grace has been that I do have an excellent well worn Macedonian cookbook!

Macedonian Restaurants in GTA?

So Sad to have to agree with you Wiley, just hoping that perhaps a group of Macedonian business people might talk to their elders, and come up with something, and you know that there need not be a lot of capital for d├ęcor. I grew up when in that area were both the Macedonian Village and the as well as the Constantinople, the International and a place within a Pool Hall. As well Macedonians ran a Canadian restaurant Mary's Lunch on the south west corner of Queen and Parliament, but they did a special Macedonian hamburger, simple topping of a delicious tomato sauce loaded with sweet onion. My posting a last gasp at the community to perhaps bring back their history and amaze food lovers!

Dominican Food

You are quite distant from the products you need and may need quantity in many items. I have on occasion bought from various wholesalers and distributors, so my suggestion is to in the meanwhile search out those sources. You will find them most often in the Scarborough/Markham area make your will and Mississsauga. This will be a lot easier than seeking a multitude of retail stores.. The wholesalers/distributors will probably give you deals and might even assist with the blueberries. Personally, I have gone into many such businesses and almost all assisted me and I am only about one to two hours away! Also if there is a local Toronto Dominican consulate, they may provide info, or even the embassy. You do have time on your side to work on this to make it a real success!

Macedonian Restaurants in GTA?

Just a rehash of what , sadly hasn't been seen for a decade +, but one really has to wonder why between the churches, the business people, Macedonian now aging population,,,, that somehow an authentic old style Macedonian restaurant cannot exist. I am of course of interest to Slavic not Greek Macedonian food. In it's hayday, many restaurants serving daily fresh cooked food, from a hot table or sitting in the oven, with a large choice.

A start was complimentary usually bean soup, almost all meats in both stew or roast, stuffed peppers, cabbage rolls, beans, roast potato, orzo pasta, rice, cabbage, so much more and all very tasty, although wonderful hot peppers offered as a side! There was never yogourt in the supermarkets, but they made their own! Desserts not bmuch available, everyone went to enjoy the greatest European home cooking.

It's getting too late for us few Chowhounds that know this exceptional cuisine, but truly hope some Macedonians would re-create this special type restaurant. Not myself of Macedonian descent, but was lucky enough to grow up in an area that had 5 great restaurants!
