Trieu Chau Restaurant- St Paul

Your #113 sounds interesting, I will have to remember to try that.

I agree on a previous comment on the eggrolls, probably the best I've had as well. Probably why I'm a big fan of their bun with egg roll on top (153 i think?).

Best bún (Vietnamese vermicelli noodle salad)?

I haven't been to a huge number of places in town but my favorite so far is Trieu Chou on University. I like the egg roll, tofu and chicken version. I've been to Pho 79 and it was very good also.

Kansas hounds: Bierocks?

I was surprised to see a discussion of these pop up. I have a similar story--great grandparents traveled with their family from Russia in 1906 and ended up in Kansas.

I'm sure there are all kinds of variations in recipes, the type I make is heavier on the onions, cabbage. One hint if anybody wants to make these (and you should) is to make sure the seams are down against the cookie sheet (lots less leakage as they cook).

MSP-CUP AND CONE

I haven't been there in a while but yes, it's a great place. I've only had ice cream things there--haven't tried their food.

A few years ago when the neighboring strip mall development was happening, I was sure a little mom and pop operation like that would be swallowed up and turned into more parking lot. I'm willing to bet they were offered some sort of buyout but they held their ground.

MSP - Good places in Brooklyn Park?

Yes, I think that's the place you've been seeing. I'll second the Wagner's drive-in. Along with the great burgers, their french fries are some of the best I've had in recent years too.

Lychee juice or syrup in Minneapolis?

I know the Indian market/restaurant Curry Up in Maple Grove sells a bottled Lychee drink because I bought a small bottle of it there once just to try it. I don't remember what % juice it had or how much sugar was added, but I remember it being fairly sweet. You could call them up and ask. http://www.curryupfoods.com/

It may be at some of the Indian markets on Central but I don't know.

MSP Pan Fried Noodles?

First off I'm no expert, but I had what I consider a fantastic pan fried noodle dish at Caravelle restaurant on Little Canada road just east of where it intersects with Rice Street (49). It was during a bad snow storm and the place was empty, so I don't know how busy the place is normally. Have always intended to go back and order it again but haven't managed it yet.

This place isn't terribly far from 35E so should be within the region you are looking for.

MSP-Vietnamese Cuisine

Having seen some of the responses, I have a lot of things to try, but my favorite so far hasn't been mentioned yet--the rice noodle dish called bun. It is a big bowl with a mound of rice noodles, with it some various greens, bean sprouts, cucumber. A choice of meat and roasted peanuts goes on top. I usually get it with seasoned chicken. Add some of the hot pepper oil, soy sauce at the table--very good.

Last couple times I've had it was at Trieu Chao, on University Ave and it's great there.

MSP: Indian market in St. Paul or east metro

I know of 3 decent Indian markets on Central Av. in Minneapolis, but it would save a bit of
driving for me if I knew of one on the east side of the metro. Does anybody know of any?
I've been in a couple of the Asian markets along University but the ones I've been in don't
seem to cover that part of the world.

San Pedro Cafe in Hudson, Wisconsin

I've been there a few times, terrific place though we haven't made it out there for
a while. My wife and I have loved the food each time we've gone and I would
recommend it.

I looked at the menu and they seem to have dropped my favorite which was
grilled chicken in a rather spicy jerk seasoning broth if I remember. Rasta pasta I
have had before and is very good. They seem to have added more fish/seafood to the
menu, I don't recall having fish there so I can't comment on that.

The Old Standards (MSP)

Carol's used to be in that little town of Lexington on the north end of the cities (Lake drive & 35W). It is true a fire damaged the restaurant and never reopened at that location. Unattractive, dingy yellow brick exterior, lots of character inside and great food. I know she was there in the late 80s, no idea how long before that.

[MSP] The Badness & Heights of Vadnais Heights, MN

In this same general area Hwy 96, 1/2 mi east of 35E is a strip mall
with a great Mexican place, Casa Lupita. I miss this place a lot now that I
don't live nearby anymore. Has a fast food format where you order at the counter and they make it in front of you while you wait.

fish tacos in puerto vallarta

Just got back from there a couple weeks ago. We went to
one place for fish tacos and I'll let you know where we went.

The vallarta-info.com site has a page for street food stands in
PV with visitor ratings. We visited the street stand said
to have the best fish tacos in town. Great food, my wife and
I loved the tacos there.

Go to the link below and scroll down to Marisma's taco stand. There
will be a map in here too. This stand had about 6 people running it,
looked very clean.

New Chinese place in Minneapolis/St Paul

Good point about the highway 10s. It is the old Hwy 10 that goes by
Northtown.

There must have been more than one Nicklows in the past, the one I was
talking about is called "Nicklows Cafe and Bar" which definitely appeared
open. See http://www.nicklowscafe.com/ Going by their website, they
say they say this area is in Spring Lake Park.

I couldn't find Guang Zhou's address but I see that Nicklows bar/grill
next door is at 8466 Central Ave NE, Spring Lake Park. Type this into
google maps and it finds the area properly. Don't use the map link on
Nicklow's website, it points you to the wrong place for some reason.

New Chinese place in Minneapolis/St Paul

Now that I've been to Guang Zhou a couple times I need to follow up to this post.
I agree with Chow11, I want it to stay open too.

Not long after this posting first appeared I tried takeout and had the pan fried
noodles with chicken. Very tasty, good quality.

This past Saturday my wife and I went there for dinner. I had the Szechuan chicken
which I was very impressed with. Good flavor, respectably spicy and very good quality
white meat chicken, vegetables were properly cooked and not overdone. My wife was equally impressed with the Szechuan kung pao chicken.

We will definitely be going back. By the way, its location is on the north side of Hwy 10 and Central Av. right next to the Nicklows cafe/bar.

MAVERICK'S MSP

Sorry to hear that. I've always really liked their brisket sandwich, but it's been a while since I've been there. What was it about the sandwiches that were terrible?

MSP-Best Biscuits and Gravy?

Sorry I can't add more than this, but for what it's worth, the best biscuits I've ever had were at Carols old location in Lexington before it had a fire and she moved.
This is years ago so I hope she hasn't changed the recipe.
