What menu items need to be retired?

Wow. This thread has had some longevity.

I'm over bacon everything!

Foodie Destinations between DFW and Nashville?

Being a Memphian also, I'll agree with all of this except I would recommend BBQ Shop over Cozy Corner & Central. Being a road trip to Nashville, there probably wont be time for Iris, but definitely time to stop at some of our less upscale places. Like Au Fond, Lunchbox Eats, Trolley Stop, & Kwik Chek.

Best Burger In Dallas/Fort Worth

I'm ending my futile efforts with Love Shack So7. If that place didn't have Tim Love associated with it, they would be out of business by now. THREE times I have been there, and three times I have been disappointed. Cold fries, bad service, overinflated prices. I've seen better management at Burger King. And those chips? Nice idea, horrible execution.

dried smoked herring in Dallas area. aka: Blind Robins.

Central Market has it.

In-N-Out Burger

So, its just a microcosm of Arlington?

Never been to that one, I can only attest for the Burleson location. And marginal isn't a word I would use.

SMASHBURGER!

Add me to the list.

What do you mix with ketchup?

Yes, if you get the 'HOT' flavor, as it comes in just regular, too.

What do you mix with ketchup?

Hank,

You can find this stuff in many Asian markets. Its killer.

Best Burger In Dallas/Fort Worth

I'm a fan of Fred's Texas, and Smashburger. Two totally different animals, both delicious.

Never been to Ft. Worth before: what can't I miss? (with a limitation)

La Playa Maya has four locations in the area, I believe. The one on Hemphill is where I usually go. I'd have to agree with you on both suggestions.

What do you mix with ketchup?

Right there with ya! I think its called 'fry sauce' in some areas. I love to mix Duke's mayo with ketchup, delicious! My oldest standby is Wendy's chili sauce and ketchup. I always have a few packs in my kitchen. Goes great with tator tots, and, well...fries.

Best Delivery Resturants in Fort Worth

I enjoy Pappa Chang's delivery. The 'Thai Fresh Spring Rolls' are maybe the best I've ever had. I have tried several dishes fromm there, and not one has been less than tasty.

The bridges over to Arkansas are undergoing construction now. Long waits to get across. Everyone in Memphis has their own fave 'cue place, mine's BBQ Shop, so hit one, two, or more. Central is great too.

Enjoy your time in Memphis!

By the way, Soul Fish IS worth the drive.

Do you really like the look of stainless steel appliances?

I just moved, and my appliances are all black now. I miss my white.

As a side note, I have been watching all episodes of the Food Network's "The Best Thing I Ever Ate," and Memphis is WELL represented on the show, and for good reason.

Soul Fish is a great place with a delicious menu. Not to be missed. Flying Fish is a location of a small chain of the same drab restaurants, owned by the same company as Flying Saucer. They do faux-local well. But I fear you'll be disappointed, as I have the four times I been there.

Top 5 Memphis places to eat!

Without a doubt.

Solo Eating in Memphis

As a former resident of South Main area, I can assure you that it is probably the safest are in all of Memphis. Never had any problem there, but I assume you may still be holding onto the notion that pretty = safe. The area from the COGIC bookstore to Arcade is an almost continuous stretch of restaurants, shops, and homes.

In the area are several solo dining spots.
Rumba Room
Pearl's
SOB
Earnestine & Hazel's
Arcade

I would suggest any and all of these as a nice representative slice of what downtown has to offer.

fort worth: the LOVE SHACK

I was disappointed with the So7 location, too.

My companion and I ordered the dirty love burger, she ordered fries, I ordered the garlic parmesean chips. A couple of soft drinks, and a chocolate shake too. Was told that strawberry was the only option. No biggie.

Shake was good, fries were okay, chips were tossed after the first few,, and burgers were NOT good. I did not like them at all. And I generally like most foods. The sauce was heavy, with a long aftertaste, and toppings didn't seem fresh.

I'll try it again, perhaps it was the fact that I made it out at 9pm on a Monday evening.

Memphis

I really enjoy Sweden Kream...the softserve, of course. They also have hamburgers served in wax paper with a toothpick, good shakes, and better than decent hot wings. I'd rather go there than Jerry's.

LA Hound Needs Help With Memphis

I second those choices.

The BBQ Shop is my fave place for the 'cue. Try the BBQ spaghetti, an amazing experience.

Trip to Memphis...I can almost taste the Q!

It's been touched on many times before, here's a quick rundown.

Tom's

Eating our Way to Memphis

In Memphis:

For dives: Voodoo Room, P & H, Buccaneer, and the amazing Earnestine & Hazel's
For eats: BBQ Shop, Kooky Canuck, Encore, Pho Vietnam
For sights: Riverwalk along the bluff, Civil Rights Museum, horribly named Mud Island, South Main Arts District

All of these places paint a pretty complete picture of Memphis. It's got nice points, gritty points, and a heck of a lot of culture.

Memphis Area - "Must Do's"

Good post. The funny thing is, that if you were in the 'hood, Payne's was probably next door.

I am also a fan of Ajax, some tasty offerings there.

Come back soon!
