Yummi's

Ordered a Chicken Greek salad to go, and the portion size was huge. I thought it was pricey at first considering it cost $10.95 before taxes, but there were 3 pieces of chicken breast on top of my salad which made it very, very filling. I've also had their chicken shawarma pita and found the flavours a little lacking, but I would go back to see what else they have on their menu.

PIcnic

Yes, I'd like to hear more about Picnic as well! Am thinking about going there tomorrow evening. Any thoughts on the food? I'm dining with a vegetarian, so I'm wondering whether the menu is veggie friendly?

Gonoe Sushi (North York)

I've had dinner at Gonoe with one of my friends who says it's his favourite sushi place. It's Korean owned and the space is quite small, but cozy. The first time I dined there, the service was very good (my friend has many food allergies and they always, always accomodate his needs) and I thought the quality and portion sizes of the sashimi and sushi rolls were great as well.

I went back again with my family a month or so later, and didn't find the food nearly as impressive. The portion sizes of our sashimi also went down a bit. I was hoping to "wow" my family with the meal because I was so impressed with it the first time, but came out feeling really underwhelmed and disappointed.

I wondered if I had received better attention the first time because I had dined there with my friend (who was a regular)?

Toronto 2007 Gold Medal Plates Campaign

I wasn't there.. but I believe that since Mark McEwan won last year's Toronto event, that disqualified him from competing this year. However, he was on the panel as a guest judge. http://goldmedalplates.com/c_toronto.html

I was thinking about how it would be great (for those of us who couldn't afford the event) if we could try those dishes ourselves. I'm pretty sure that the Caribou hind dish is currently on the tasting menu at Canoe right now.. but I wasn't able to find either of the dishes that Lorenzo or Claudio created on their respective menus.

Here are some shots from the event:

Toronto private dining: 30 ppl @ 1 table

The Red Room at Biff's Bistro is gorgeous and I'm pretty sure it can seat up to 30 people at one long table. I believe there are photos on the site: http://www.oliverbonacini.com/pdr_menus_faq_facts.html

Blue Mountain Resort - Collingwood

I dined at O&B for my anniversary in August and I would suggest asking for a booth for a quieter dining experience. According to the hostess, we were given one of the "best" tables, but it was right next to a large table (with children) and we were a little put off by that. I guess that is to be expected at a resort town though. Another couple who sat next to us commented on how busy it was and I think they also felt it was quite loud inside. (Also, there was a huge Wakeboard festival happening out in the pond behind us, so that definitely factored into the busyness of the place)

Despite that, the service and food were great. Just see if you can get a quieter table for yourself and your SO if that's what you're looking for.
