Best Fish & Chips in Miami?

The Gables Diner has great fish and chips, and the coleslaw that comes with it is light and crisp. I had fish and chips at Titanic (near the UM) a few weeks ago, but cannot recomend it, they add Hops to the batter (they are a brewerary after all) and I felt that the batter was lumpy rather than light and crunchy. I am not sure how to describe it, but I think I will stick with a burger when I am there.

New Restaurant South Miami

Well its funny that you say south miami does not need any more sushi places, because the rumor is that the space next door to the beverly hills cafe is going to be a sushi siam!

Miami Beach Hot Dogs

My parents are transplanted New Yorkers and we would love to go for hot dogs. We also loved Wolfies which was owned by the man who owned the rascal house as well. It is a shame the rascal house is closing, because there dont seem to be any real old time new york restaurants left in Miami

Next Iron Chef Finale [Spoiler inside]

It seems as if food network has its favorites and uses them in all different shows. I dont know if any of you remember but several years ago, at least 5 I think, Symon had a show on the food network along with Wayne Bracken (i think thats his name) and they cooked on a set that was made to look like a home kitchen. It did not run for long, but it seems as if Food Network was already prepping him then. I will admit I liked Besh better.

Best sushi in South Florida?

In Coral gables, off miracle mile, across from the entrance to the colonade hotel is a small restaurant called Izkaya. It has really great food and is small, so the service is superb. It does get crowded later in the evening, but it was the best Sashimi I have had in Miami and it was great to have the waiter make suggestions from the Japanses only menu so that every time we go we get to experience something new

Kid Friendly Gourmet Restaurant in Miami

My husband and I both like to eat out and eat well. We now have a 1 year old little boy and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestion on a "kid friendly" restaurant that is not a loud CHAIN restaurant.

He is a pretty good kid, he does however like to babble and can not always sit still, so we need someplace that is not going to frown upon a kid, and his parent getting up and walking around etc.

I would love to hear any suggestions!

Considering culinary school...any advice?

After spending time doing the ACF apprenticeship program the chef I was working for suggested I got to the CIA, so that I could shoot straight to the top. I graduated in 92 and got a great job upon graduation. I have slowly worked my way up and have finally 15 years out obtained a position of responsibility and great pay. I think my education was great and I dont think I would be where I am now if I had not worked my butt off the years before school and after school. The real question is, I wonder where I would be had I not gone to school.

Now that the Food Network is in our face all the time, it is great when people ask me where I went to school and I say the Culinary Institiute, thier eyes light up...that does make me feel that the debt and sweat equity was worth it

Restaurants along Tamiami Trail?

Whenever we are driving from Miami to Sanibel via the Tamiami Trail, we detour 5 minutes off the trail and eat in Downtown Naples. There a ton of restuarants and cafes, our favorite is Cafe Barcelona, it is a quaint spanish restuarnt with really great tapas!

catering in Miami

I ate at OLA when it was in Merrick park and thought it was fairly good, although the menu descriptions were wonderful and then the actual plate was lackluster. I was a huge fan of Patina when I lived in New York, so I would think he would do a good job.
