uhockey's review of Breakfast/Dessert/Pastry: Buvette, Bosie, Dominique Ansel, Dough, Pies n Thighs, Puddin, and More.
Thank you for the wonderful reviews..I'm going to post your blog to one of my favorites. I am also a fan of Dominque Ansel and just discovered his Soho location. DH works in the area and so many nights he brings me home requested items. So far the DKA is my favorite enjoyed with a hot cup of tea.
Rats Restaurant
But what's the dress code..I don't want to wear dressy clothes when we walk through the garden.
Rats Restaurant
Thinking about going to Grounds for Sculpure..if we spend the afternoon enjoying the garden..are we able to walk into Rats for dinner in our jeans and sneakers or is a late lunch better adviced. I've read mixed reviews..how is the chef there these days?
Orso or DB Bistro for dinner
We will be seeing Once next month on a Saturday night. it is on 45th street. We have been considering DB Bistro or Orsos but I am open to your recommended suggestions. Zagats gives a higher rating to DB than Orso but Yelp posters liked Orsos better. We are walkers and have no problem walking 10 blocks in any direction. We prefer Italian, French or American and prefer tables not right on top of each other. My husband does not want to wear a jacket either, price is not an issue. Have been to La Ravista, Tratt. Trecalori and Beccos and do not want to do that..want to try a different place. Thank you.
St Lucia not to be missed
What are the do not miss placeses for breakfast and dinner? Specifically french, american and seafood. Any budget anywhere on island though we are staying in Rodney Bay area and will be down south a lot. Thanks.
Salt Creek Grill Today
I like the atmosphere of SC more than the food...and the menu seems a bit limited for the price.
New restaurant coming to Freehold Raceway Mall
I think it is opening maybe early spring. It will get the crowds because of the location. Cheesecake Factory still packs them in despite very mediocre food.
Question on Mariage Fereres Teas
Really...good to know. One thing about the Marco Polo though...it was very "smooth"

Question on Mariage Fereres Teas
How can I find out the ingredients in the teas..some teas are self explanatory...for instance Marco Polo is described and fruity and floral and on the tin it says nothing about what fruits or flowers it tastes like. I don't think it says it on their website and if you buy it at Dean and Deluca, etc. they don't know either. I bought the Marco Polo tea...it was okay but I think I'm tasting a bit of rose, maybe a hint of vanilla and currents...not sure...I would not buy this tea again. It's okay, but next time I would like to know just what the "fruits/florals" are. Other than buying a straight black tea, how can I get this information?

Anything decent near Rowan or Cherry Hill?
My daughter attends Rowan..and we would like to treat her for dinner once in awhile by meeting her and taking her out in the area. Nothing too fancy or super expensive...a place we can go in jeans...she likes steaks and prime rib, shrimps, salmon and she will eat Italian. Thanks.
Lobster House - Freehold?
We were stocking up for the hurricane when we passed this place today...we noticed the sign. It's where Iron Skillet used to be and before that that short lived "other place" in Raintree by Top Tomato. I have not seen any advertising for them and like I said I did not even know they were there even though I shop quite often in the area. It doesn't look too promsing.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqCnOibXVGc&feature=related
Where can I buy really nice loose leaf tea?
Wench 31= I'm just seeing this...I'm trying to figure out what tea you have. If it is a roibus you will use 1 and 1/2 teaspooons tea for every 8 ounces of boiling water. If you put it over ice you want to double everything...3 tsp. of tea as well as the brewing time. Normally we put in a tsp of sugar in our teas...but when we ice it that too is doubled. If it is not to your liking try brewing it longer...when we make the iced samples in the store we brew for 15 minutes. If your tea is white or green do not double the brewing time as this will make it bitter. Also if your tea is green or white water should not be boiling...in fact all teas should not be used with boiling water but the greens and whites should be when it becomes hot at 175 degrees. Hope this helps.
Mr. Shrimp - Belmar
Everything was good but what's up with the New England Clam Chowder...I thought I was eating Campbells Cream of Potato Soup. It had no taste, no clams and was a huge disappointment.

Cant kick - it happens. People put their hands in and "taste it". I've seen it happen in my store, with me wafting the tea towards the customer, and before I even know what's happening, they stick their hand in and grab a handful. We always take (immediately) that section out when it does happen...but unsupervised at Wegman's...I'm also thinking that the teas are not dated...they don't sell as fast and are not as fresh. In our stores our tins (on the wall) sometimes are refilled several times daily.

I can only vouch for my store but we (all the employees) enjoy tea and try to educate the consumer when they buy. A lot of the tea we sell is geared to the non tea drinker...some of it is very sweet and the ice tea sample tastes more like Kool Aid then tea. However, there is something for everyone and in every budget. I never push a customer. The economy is bad on everyone. I would love for everyone to buy a pound of Monkey Picked but that's just not reality. I just want them to enjoy what they purchase. I just got my pound of Ceylon from Adagio this morning.

HillJ I work at Teavana...perhaps you are one of my customers? Currently we have several straight black teas, strongest being Kemum, Black Pearls (Chinese) and assam. We also carry a darjeeling type , Golden Money which has cocoa notes and a Black Needle tea which has honey and cocoa notes. We also have English breakfast and two other straight black teas. I have never been to Holsom...they are always closed when I am there and their website does not list teas they carry but I hear great things about them. I would not adivse Wegman's teas..I don't believe they are fresh and people stick their hands in them. I would not get tea from teaberry's either...the tea they do sell is kept in plastic bags and is not fresh. Tea must be kept in tins. I have used Adagio on line and have never been disappointed.

Birthday Cake - Monmouth or Ocean County

Birthday Cake - Monmouth or Ocean County
I love everything "Flakey" but alas dd does not want their sublime coconut cake. Mendokers or Macoroon Shop?
Masterchef tonight [spoilers]
It was so obvious when the camera zeroed in on the Global knife. What can we expect next week...a close up of Glad Wrap? Both Joe and Gordon are very disrespectful yet though wont tolerate it in others. I'm not seeing any clear winners on this show...most are inconsistent except for Christian but they hate him.
Birthday Cake - Monmouth or Ocean County
I have heard of this place and for some silly reason always just thought of it as macarrons...will investigate. Thanks.
Birthday Cake - Monmouth or Ocean County
My daughter wants a custom cake..not a fancy cake boss cake but she wants to choose the fillings that she wants. I wanted Flakey Tart to do it but apparently they don't customize and only offered a couple of selections none of which were were my daughter wanted. Is Mendokers my only choice. I have been disappointed by every bakery in the area and call me spoiled but I only like Flakey Tart and Carlos at this point. Has anyone been truely successful in choosing birthday cakes where you actually said "this is out of this world" instead of "its all right".
Look out, folks! Guy & Rachael are teaming up for a new FN show!
I really miss Cooking Live with Sarah Molton...I learned so much from watching that show.
Master Chef 6/20, spoilers
I don't know...Joe seemed to be a lot nicer when he was chubby. He's like the fear monger now.
Lunch near Phantom
We will be a large group of about 10 ladies. Looking for a nice choice for lunch near Phantom of the Opera on 44th Street. Someone suggested Brazilbrazil. I'm not keen on it. Open to anything in that area...I'm thinking there has got to be better than that. Thanks.
Anyone tried Luchentos in Millstone yet??
It was okay, nothing great. All of Manalapan seemed to be there Saturday night. Just because the place looks fancy did not make for better food. I am pretty sure the potato croquette was made with instant potatoes.
Olive Garden coming soon in Freehold, NJ
I don't see the traffic getting worse there except maybe during Christmas when its always a nightmare. I don't see why ANYONE in this area would go to Olive Garden when a good poriton of people living in this neighborhood are either Italian Americans or come from Brooklyn/Staten Island and know from good food. Besides, there is Dusals directly across the road which offers a "much better" option.
