Peking duck on Thanksgiving?

As per our forementioned tradition we went out Thursday seeking Peking duck. Our journey took us to East Harbor Seafood in Brooklyn. Since I have had a number of positive dim sum experiences there, I hoped that their Cantonese expertise might extend throughout the menu.

We ordered the Duck, sablefish, pea shoots in broth, and lamb chops - one of the owners took our order and tried to convince us not to over-order; fair enough. It was only five minutes later that he returned to tell us that the Duck was not available, that it would be about two hours away. We glumly ordered a prawn and stuffed tofu dish in its place. I can say that everything was well made, flavorful and cooked perfectly - but where's that duck?! May have to chase some Peking Duck next weekend.

Peking duck on Thanksgiving?

Well, this has become our family tradition. We've been to Pacificana and Imperial Palace; we enjoyed the ducks (and the ancillary dishes) but I wouldn't say that they were remarkable. I've been thinking about Deyi Peking Duck House for tomorrow but I'ld like some encouragement that it isn't on a downhill trend.

Pad Thai?

Do you have a favorite Pad Thai? What sets it apart from others?

Xie Family Foods – Delicious Cold Dishes from Tianjin at the Golden Mall

Just left the Golden Mall and I can't imagine visiting without having the Lamb Noodle Soup on the upper floor.

Great dinner at Spicy Mina's

I am not writing this to be contentious or to dispute anyone else's experience, but all of my experiences at Mina have been positive. I have had some wonderful meals there (palak paneer, samosa chat, dal fry among my favorites) and I have had some meals that were merely good. Mina and the staff have been consistently attentive and warm; I am looking forward to returning.

Georgian Food?

There is a Georgian Bakery on Neptune Blvd. (259??) that has good bread and cheeses.

Where can I buy farro?

Buon Italia in Chelsea Market has farro as well as an interesting assortment of beans and lentils.

Taiwanese Help Please

I don't have the details (my son may post later with more), but there is a small Taiwanese restaurant on Main St. near the LIE. The restaurant is very close to the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory. Very personal and homey.

Tony Bourdain: Brighton Beach Place?

Before the "surreal nightlife" segment they went to Glechik... They also went ti M&I (although that might have been during Zim's show).

Tony Bourdain: Brighton Beach Place?

I think you are referring to Cafe Glechik on Coney Island Ave. It is very good...

Speck in Astoria or Manhattan

For a Manhattan source it is hard to beat DiPaolo.

why doesn't FTVN recycle the golden oldies?

Those classic cooking shows reflected an interest in teaching cooking, culture, and an appreciation for foodways. Since none of these really encourages pointless merchanidzing, TFN is not interested.

Recommends around E34th street?

You are too near KoreaTown to not take advantage. My current favorite (fresh and varied panchan, very good bipimbop (?) ) is Seoul Garden, 34 W. 32nd - second floor.

Recent trip to Di Palo's

I was there just yesterday morning and spent my usual hour in the waiting and being waited upon. Like the other posters I never mind because the wait is generally entertaining, informative, and cordial. As far as what to purchase - be alert as to what cheeses have arrived recently and certainly, I never leave without speck (smoked prosciutto).

ISO Vietnamese restaurants in Nassau County

Ahh you have reminded me of the lamented Maxim (?) in Bethpage. The only good Vietnamese I've ever seen in Nassau.

Brooklyn Egg Creams

I have a friend visiting next week and he has requested a genuine Brooklyn egg cream. Does anyone have any suggestions? There must be some reliable luncheonette or diner that I can visit.

Mario Cancelled

That was Po... still operating with another staff. I went there once but had a very positive experience - sorry yours was so disagreeable.

Mario Cancelled

Mario does not "have" a restaurant named Bolo...

Interesting article about The Food Network

The Food Network has become increasingly unwatchable for years - my real problem with it is that you can no longer learn anything about food, cooking, or human culture. The Network is exclusively about "getting and spending".

"Pesto Day 2006".....SERIOUS "Pesto-age" Can You Guess...? (w/PHOTO)

I would go with 6 - really packed...

Pita Bread - Atlantic Ave/Not Sahadi's

At Damascus - don't miss the brioche filled with date jam. Addictive!

World Tong - Any Change?

My understanding is that the chef at World Tong has "moved on" to Chinatown Brasserie - has anyone noticed any change at World Tong? I was hoping to have dim sum this weekend, but I am a bit leery.
