Easy but delicious - weekday lunch off of I-95/ I-495/I-270
Try Tortacos in Gaithersburg. Close to 270, right off 355. Great authentic LA/Mexican tacos at fair prices. Super fresh ingredients and everything is homemade. You'll eat well and support a family operated business.

Quick Taco report - TECC & La Placita
If you are ever in Gaithersburg, check out Tortacos by Lakeforest Mall. They are in the same plaza as H Mart, at the intersection of Lost Knife and Odenhal.
Taco options include Al Pastor, Carnitas, Lengua, Asada, Pollo and Lingua. They also have tortas, salads, sopes and burritos. Everything is really fresh. Even their guac and chips are homemade.
This is a local family owned business. They are actually from LA so they know what they are doing. They have weekly specials--updated on their Facebook page. Excellent prices for quality food.

Specialty shaped cakes in MoCo? maybe NoVa
It's not very hard to make one using a Wilton's pan or a square cake and 2 rounds. It's hard to find a good custom cake without spending a small fortune.
Just a thought--you might try calling L'Academie de Cuisine in Gaithersburg to see if one of their professional pastry students would do one freelance for you. That would definitely cost less than a pro shop. (301) 670-8670

Need suggestions for gift certificate in NW DC
In Cleveland Park, I would suggest either Dino or Palena. Both nice restaurants. For $25 she can have a cocktail and a couple of appetizers. For something more casual, 2 Amys--wood fired pizza-- is good.

Work holiday party with "fun" and private dining??
My office had a party at Lucky Strike in Gallery Place. Our group was about 35 people. We had 3 lanes and a private seating area.

Chinese egg noodles where? Whole foods?
China Boy in Chinatown has fresh noodles. Otherwise, you can buy dry ones in the Chinese grocery stores.

Cookies
I haven't been there in a while but Woodmoor Bakery in Four Corners (Colesville Rd and University Blvd) had old fashioned cookies. I get rugulah from either Parkway Deli in Silver Spring or Shalom Strictly Kosher in Wheaton.

Equinox, Blue Duck Tavern, Corduroy or something else?
I highly recommend Corduroy. I have never had a bad meal there. The chef-owner is actually present so the quality is consistently good.

Good casual meeting place for a drink in DC?
The Passenger is terrific. Even better if you can get a reservation to their inner bar, The Columbia room. The owner-bartender, Derick Brown is a a whiz at cool and classic cocktails.

Where can I buy Lan Chi Chili Paste with garlic?
Yes, Grand Mart is Korean. There is some crossover in products but if the OP is looking for a specific brand, the odds of finding it in a Chinese store is higher.

Chinese caterer?
I agree with Rich. A restaurant would be much easier and still reasonably priced if you ask for a group/banquet menu. Another option China Chefs in Columbia--right off Rt 29 by Columbia Mall.

Blue Ribbon BBQ in Rockville?
BF and I have been there a couple of times. The fried and loaded hotdog is disturbingly good. The pulled pork and baby back ribs are good too. Owners are very friendly and fun. I would definitely go back there.

That's too bad. I used to work down the road. Some days, I just needed some comfort food. I was just there last Tuesday. Good thing I stopped by when I had a chance.

Where are you staying? Do you want something in DC proper or are nearby suburbs (by Metro) okay?
I tried Redwood in Bethesda last week and really enjoyed it. They emphasize seasonal and local ingredients. In fact, they work with Bethesda Central Farm Market.
If you want downtown, Equinox was one of the first to do seasonal/local food. Founding Farmers has good food but service is inconsistent.

Largest wine store in the area
If you happen to be near Chevy Chase Circle, drop in to Magruder's Wine and Liquor shop. They are not the largest store but their manager, Ben, is fantastic. He is a CIA trained chef with extensive experience in wine purchasing. He can certainly steer you toward whatever style you are looking for.

A good butcher in Adelphi/College Park/Silver Spring areas?
Dutch Country Farmers Market in Laurel (used to be in Burtonsville) has a good meat vendor and a good poultry vendor. They also have a lot of cooked foods.
