The Fresh Market coming to Montvale - Thoughts?
It is not quite the end of an era in Bergen County just yet...we still have Demarest Farms in Hillsdale.

Red Bank Flavour Festival ~ May 6th?
When you say "dogs" I guess you mean hot dogs.
We learned the hard way that dogs were NOT welcome at this parking lot event.
Nowhere on the website or printed materials for this event does it mention that you may not bring your dog. We drove down from northern NJ with our dog and were turned away at the entrance. The volunteers would not allow us to speak to anybody running the event. Apparently, it is a Red Bank law restricting animals from being anywhere near where food is prepared and/or served. Apparently, the birds and squirrels all were ticketed by the police.
The promoters of this event should have made this much clearer on their website since I have found this not to be the norm for such events.
Chinese banquets in NJ?
Lotus Cafe in Hackensack does them. I went to one 5+ years ago and it was excellent.
I am pretty sure Dim Sum Dynasty in Ridgewood does them too!
Using a 30% discount voucher for Sho Shaun
Like rrems I use Savored and never have to say anything to hostess or waitstaff.
Using a 30% discount voucher for Sho Shaun
One of the big selling points of the 30% discount is that you do not have to tell the staff either when you arrive or when you order about any special deals. Since I made the reservation using the 3rd party the 30% discount just appears on the bill.
Using a 30% discount voucher for Sho Shaun
I used one on a Saturday night within the last 5 months or so.
The restaurant was at maybe 40% capacity and the bar completely empty.
I did not feel like I was being treated any different / worse than normal diners.
Best Bakery in Northwest Bergen County (i.e. Ridgewood area)
The Rockland Bakery website states these as their hours...
Sunday - Friday
6:00 AM - 10:30 PM
Saturday
6:00 AM - 12:00 AM (midnight)
Not quite 24/7.
Also, the best place for dessert wasn't open when this thread began in 2009. It is Sook Pastry in Ridgewood, NJ. http://www.sookpastry.com/

Indian restaurant near Ikea Paramus, NJ
I agree with doxy...go to Brick Lane Curry in Ridgewood.
Bhoj is just so-so.
Mantra is excellent too! If you are shopping around lunch time they have the best Indian buffet in Bergen County for around $10.
Shannon Rose Irish Pub -- Ramsey
Not so sure why people would be so excited by this place.
Johnny Carinos, Panera, Applebees and Chevys are certainly not very good examples of places that I get excited about. I
Trendy Restaurants for Rehearsal dinner within 15 minutes of Woodcliff Lake Hilton
Bacari Grill is a decent choice. They would be excellent in terms of service and being able to accommodate 40-50 people. The restaurant looks great. The food is decent.
Esty Street in Park Ridge might be more trendy/updated but am unsure they could accommodate a group that large.
Park Steakhouse has a large private dining area in the basement. The food is very good. Service is questionable at times.
Ho Ho Kus Inn could probably handle 40-50. They have a brand new chef.
St Eve (http://www.stevesnj.com/) is in Ho Ho Kus too and might be your best choice. The only possible drawback, it could also be a benefit, is that they do not have a liquor license.
Another great option would be Picnic (http://picnictherestaurant.com/). Another byob but probably has the nicest looking room, best food and service.
I have never been to Baci or Savinis.
Porterhouse is certainly not trendy/updated.

Isla Mujeres eating - trip report
I just returned from another trip to Isla Mujeres.
Barlitos is an excellent stop for breakfast or lunch. The owners are Americans and have a great deal of knowledge and experience. We were there almost every morning for fresh brewed unsweetened iced tea on our way to North Beach.
Other places we love are Qubano (lunch...cuban sandwiches and Hungarian potatoes), CoMoNo (Mediterranean), Mango Cafe and Olivias.
For fish down by the water I like Minninos, Velazquez and Bally Hoo.
LoLo Lorena's is great fun too!
For chile relleno you can't beat La Lomita.
If for some reason you are craving pizza then I would suggest Pizza Rock.
Eating from the street vendors is great fun especially during the Anniversary of the Island when there are activities night after night in the square and all the vendors are out in full force.
If you are lucky find the tamale lady near the ferry in the late afternoon!

It is excellent!
Rockland County chow?
A great new place in New City is CB Kitchen Bar in New City. The people behind Cafe Barcel in Nyack, including Chef Kevin Reilly, are running this gastropub meets sports bar. They have local beer on tap from Defiant Brewing in Pearl River and are making most of the food in-house. Smoked ribs, pulled pork, chicken, cuban sandwiches, fried chicken and waffles, incredible panko onion rings with a smoked pineapple ketchup. I could go on and on.

Middle Eastern places in Bergen County.
I have never experienced any form of snobbery at Nisi. The management, sommelier and waitstaff are extremely accommodating, friendly and efficient.
Did you have a different experience that you would like to share with us?
Middle Eastern places in Bergen County.

1930's kitchen in Englewood- any REAL reviews out there?
I guess it is still open...
http://www.northjersey.com/food_dining/dining_news/100323729_1930s_alive_in_Englewood.html
From the article...You’re encouraged to walk through the kitchen and visit with the staff. Customers are placed so closely together, conversation between tables is inevitable. "It almost becomes like an old catered event," Henderson said.
I want to pay for that?
Need recs for really nice dinner in bergen, passaic or essex...
What do you enjoy at Velo? The menu is not enticing.
Also, they have a lunch menu on the website but they do not open until 5pm?!?!

I did not attend.
Here is the link to the menu. http://hohokusinn.com/dimages/file_52.pdf
Samuelsson is now just a minority shareholder of Aquavit and has not been hands-on in the kitchen for years.
