Coromandel or Tawa

Thanks. I've now been to both. While both were good, I found Tawa to be a bit on the bland side. It may have been what we ordered, so I will give it another try. Coromandel had better flavor, but the portions were on the smaller side. I guess I'm just used to city prices and portions for Indian food.

Large Group Brunch - Manchester, VT?

Any recommendations on a place for Sunday brunch for a very large group in the Manchester, VT area? Most of the breakfast spots I know are way too small. A buffet will probably be best. TIA!

Burger along Merritt/Rt 15 or I-91 between Norwalk-Hartford?

It's not a stand, but Archie Moore's in Wallingford has pretty good burgers (and wings).

Coromandel or Tawa

Looking for good Indian for a celebratory dinner in Stamford. How do Coromandel and Tawa compare? Which is better? TIA.

Napa Valley Grille (Westwood)

Here's a picture of the egg. As you can see mostly yolk, which was completely overcooked as well. Not at all runny. It probably was an old egg, but isn't the NVG's focus farm to table? And when I complained, they only made excuses and they did not offer to replace it or anything. I'd be embarrased to serve this to a guest at my house, let alone a restaurant.

2009 Wedding Hudson Valley, Westchester

Hi nycKat, where did oyu end up havign your wedding? I'm looking for a similar venue. Thanks!

Napa Valley Grille (Westwood)

Maybe I had bad luck when I sat in the bar area, but I was disappointed with NVG. I just wanted a slad, so I ordered the asparagus salad that was supposed to come with a poached egg. It was a poached yolk! And when I complained, they made excuses and said that's how the egg is always made. No effort to make it right. So I ate it and contemplated cutting my losses and going elsewhere for the rest of my meal. Instead I ended up trying a different salad - the chopped kale salad which was pretty good, but not enough for me to return. Worst $40 I've ever spent on a meal. I wasn't even served bread.

Where to get Peri Peri in Manhattan?

Does anyone know where I can purchase Peri Peri powder? Also known as ground birdseye peppers. TIA.

Greenfield MA food alert -- the fiddlehead soup is ready

Are they open on Sundays?

Tamale ladies on 137th?

Well there is a younger woman selling tamales on 137th again. However, they are now $1.50 each

Bacon Cupcakes

Cupcake Stop occasionally had French toast with bacon cupcakes. Not sure if they still make them since they've re-opened. They were pretty good with Maple frosting and bacon bits in the actual cupcake.

Any Hungarian restaurants left in this town...

Unfortunately not in manhattan, but Little Europe Hungarian Restaurant in Woodbridge, NJ is pretty good. Does anyone know if the Hungarian Society still serves food? Last I went quite a few years ago, it wasn't the best, but would due for a fix of Hungarian food.

Going to Zengo tonight

I recall enjoying just about everything, but the standouts I remember were the ceviche tasting, tuna tacos and peking duck tacos.

Rice Cooker Basics

Try googling for the specific brand of rice maker. The second container might be a steamer insert. Ours came with one. The amounts pmight depend on your specific rice cooker and the type of rice you're cooking, but we usually put 1 cup rice and 1-1/2 cups water and press the button for "Quick Rice". I think it takes about 30 minutes.

America's Test Kitchen cookbooks .... favorites?

I use The Complete Book of Pasta and Noodles occasionally. I think it's great if you have a pasta maker, but they also have recipes using ready-made noodles. I liek the way they explain how they decided on the recipe and the experimenting behind it. It's the only Cook's Illustrated book I have, but I'd imagine the other topics would be formatted similarly.

Elegant dessert ideas?

Poached pears, or anything served in an individual sized ramekin. I think elegance is often more about the presentation.

Best Take-Out/Quick Bites Near Grand Central

How about options on the north west side of Grand Central? I usually stop at Katsu-Hama on 47th or the take-out sushi place in front (not sure the name).

Westchester Sunday Brunch for a Large Group

I believe Kittlehouse was about $34/person. The food was quite good and they have a nice variety of items on the buffet. Definitely have a piece of chocolate croissant if they have it...delicious!

Best Take-Out/Quick Bites Near Grand Central

I usually enter Grand Central via the Northern Passage, so I rarely end up in the main concourse. Although when I have the extra time, I must remember the options in the market as well.

Where to buy the best fresh pasta?

The fresh pasta at Eataly is very good, but I find it to be a bit expensive. Somewhere around $7-8/lb if I recall correctly.
