CHOW Reviews: Zoku Slush and Shake Maker - Not Really That Practical?

It worked fine for you because the syrup you used contained sugar. It does not work with splenda or any no added sugar liquid.

Great idea but doesn't do a very good job. Nice container. An ordinary bottle that you can shake works better. Too bad,

CHOW Reviews: Zoku Slush and Shake Maker - Not Really That Practical?

Waste of time and money-unless you are a 10 year old...First of all, it requires sugar-something the sales people generally don't tell you. That defeated my purpose. Second-it takes too long for mediocre results. A child might be fascinated by it but not most adults.

Another looser. I bought one from Williams Sonoma and used it once with poor /no results. The reason is you have to use a mixture with some sugar in it. Sugar-free liquids (including Splenda) don't work. That is the reason I bought it impulsively when a sales person said it would work with any liquid and I didn't check it out.
As for using it with a sugared mixture, it seems like too much work for too little
return. I think I will look for a 10 year old to gift this item.

I agree-it is cute and the concept sounds great-but it doesn't work. I tried it 3 times and tossed it. Bad, bad purchase on my part.

Do you think I should exchange my Vitamix Professional Series 500 for a Vitamix Series Professional Series 750 blender?

Recently Vitamix sent out a notice to all owners of the 750 that they are recalling particular ID codes (I think 1st generation) of the 750 because there may be a remote problem with the blades which are being replaced. I sent my container in with the box and free shipping VM provided and turnaround was less than 10 days. For my effort I received an additional 1 yr warranty (total of 8 years) and a $17 hardback book of recipes for blended drinks. They had no problems reported but wanted to be on the safe side. I have found them to have outstanding customer service. If you haven't received a notice yet-just go to their website and you will be directed to enter your unit's ID number to see if yours is on the recall list. Very simple and fast. The 7200 may be QVC's equivalent of the 750. I bought mine at Williams Sonoma because their "exclusive" last year was the stainless model. "Exclusive" only means they can sell it before anyone else for X period of time-in this case, a few months before others do which includes VM online. Obviously "everyone" now has the stainless 750. I didn't want to wait-gave my old 5200 to my son so now we are both happy.

Harry Carry Restaurant question.

You are correct. After Kinzie Steak house closed (Canteen corp. decided to get out of the fine dining business) it was bought by Don Miller and became Miller's on Kinzie in 1979. It was the "sister" to the original Miller's Steak House on Western Ave. in Rogers Park, Chicago.
These fine dining restaurants featured prime beef, seafood, etc. The ribs (regular and honey) and coleslaw were especially popular at the Western Ave restaurant. The Kinzie location was known for also having an elaborate salad bar and more formal atmosphere. It later was sold and became Harry Carays.

Do you think I should exchange my Vitamix Professional Series 500 for a Vitamix Series Professional Series 750 blender?

Love the idea of exchanging tips and recipes for the 750 (or tweaking the vitamix ones).

I made it for guests last year and it was delicious-I liked it better than most Margaritas because of the fresh fruit. Purists may disagree ...

Vitamix Cookbook Confusion...

the 750 comes with the Create hardback book & DVD with chef V... 6 books are available from Vitamix-neither Create is on their website as of today.

The other Create is an older book with includes the Michael Symon DVD, another book-recipes from Master Chefs, and comes only with the CIA Vitamix edition of a different machine.
I agree with you-I would like that one also.

The 7 year Vitamix warranty (with option to increase to 10 years) is amazing. Their customer service is outstanding so I would go with who has the best deal. Both WS and Sur La Table take off 10% if you buy on the day you take a cooking class. Sometimes the manager will give you the same deal without the class.
It is unfortunate they are discontinuing their lifetime warranty (as Williams Sonoma did a couple of years ago) I was considering buying an expensive espresso machine there for that reason.

They really do work-and I am a recent "convert" and quite surprised that they are so handy-yes, even the clean preset-just walk away..
.I believe they have used presets in some of the commercial vitamix machines (especially the drink machines) for some time.

I gave my Vitamix 5200 to my son and bought the 750. LOVE IT!! Now we're both happy. I also like the Create cookbook. Made the great potato soup ,basil pesto (from the online recipe), chocolate frosting and herb dressing and found you use the tamper less with the 750. I also like the pre-sets which adjust speed to the contents. I too was surprised how handy they are. Results are excellent!

Demeyere Industry 5 Opinions?

If you are really interested, I donated it to Am Vets with other stuff. One of the pans was warped, balance wasn't as good and quality wasn't as good as the older All Clad. I also like Viking 7 ply but my Demeyere pan is my fav. Still like my All Clad double boiler.. I have a 36 inch Viking professional series cooktop so the heavier pans are great for quickly reducing a sauce with the high BTU. I also like the new Scanpan nonstick for eggs.I agree with your earlier post that the All Clad of today is not the same as 10-15 years ago.

Demeyere Industry 5 Opinions?

I would not start with the Industry 5 (Demeyere) with the intent of eventually getting the Atlantis 7 ply. I would just get the Atlantis. This was in response to July 24 July 23 posts.

Demeyere Industry 5 Opinions?

I love the 7 ply Atlantis fry pan-can't wait to get the saute pan. I threw out some "newer All Clad pans" the old All Clad (10 years ago or more ) were still good so I kept those.
Personally, I would get the Atlantis or Professional 7 ply instead of something I didn't really want. Drawback with the 7 ply Demeyere is the weight.
A lot of "prestige" labels have been coming out with cheaper sets to appeal to the "label conscious" consumer who is rather uninformed about relative quality.

Exchange it! The 750 has a more powerful motor and new design doesn't require the tamper as much. Handy for peanut butter etc. Smoothies are the same as in the 5000 or 5200. It is sold on the vitamix website along with numerous stores. I heard the "Create" cookbook is way better too.
I spoke with Vitamix, WS anad Sur La Table.
I don't know where the new motor is made (5200 motor is Sweden) both are assembled in the USA with USA parts. The new 64 oz container will not work on the 5200 model even though it appears to fit on the base due to new blade design and more powerful motor (source = Vitamix). I may give my 5200 to my son at college and get the new one.
