Dried Sourdough Starter for sale?

I saw that there was a question about this a few years ago but there didn't seem to be a difinitive answer so I thought I'd try again. I am looking to buy a San Francisco dried Sourdough Starter for sale somewhere in San Francisco. Does anyone know where I can get such a thing? I tried to call Acme but they didn't answer. I want to get it today or tomorrow to bring to an SF native in LA who is about to move to NYC! He wants to recreate a taste from home.

Any suggestions?

Dinner/Drinks with the girls from the office

Thanks so much! We're going to try Nic's. Looks great.

Dinner/Drinks with the girls from the office

We are having a good-bye dinner/drinks for one of our co-workers in a few weeks. Any suggestions for a good place in Santa Monica or, preferably, Beverly Hills where a group of 5 or 6 girls can have some food and a few cocktails on a Thursday night? We're thinking mid-price range, good atmosphere and not too crazy on a Thursday. Any ideas?

Downtown on Saturday Night

In the end we decided to stick with Nick and Stef's just to see first hand. It was decent. Service was great, actually. The food was OK. My sea bass was quite dry and boring but the sides were yummy and I enjoyed the table side Caeser salad. We split a lovely peach tart for dessert. I won't be rushing back there but it wasn't too bad. I want a little more for that kind of coin, though. I think it will be Water Grill next. Thanks all!

Downtown on Saturday Night

My boyfriend and I are attending the members opening at the MOCA on Saturday night and we'd like to have a nice, romantic dinner after. I made reservations at Nick and Stef's but I have since read some scathing reviews on here of that place. Can anyone suggest a nice place we can have a lovely meal? I was thinking steak but I am open to any suggestions. I am looking for ambience as well as good food. Thank you!

Good Italian near Silverlake. Aroma?

I live within spitting distance to Aroma in Silverlake and have only been once. The boyfriend and I had a nice, quiet Sunday dinner there several months ago. Now my parents are coming to town and I'm looking for a good place to take them for dinner. My father is Old-School Italian and loves Italian food so I want to take them there. Can anyone tell me of a local (Silverlake, Los Feliz, even Downtown) that rivals Aroma for service, food and ambience?

Thanks!

Lunch in Santa Monica without donating a nut?

The Lazy Daisy on Pico is a nice place for lunch on a sunny day. It's nothing fancy but it's inexpensive.

About to be a Non-Vegetarian

I have been starting to slowly add meat back into my diet after 7 years (I always ate seafood) and I want your advice on the best meal I could have to celebrate my newly meat-eating-ways. Go gentle on me, people. My stomach might not be ready for steak but tell me what you suggest.

El Caserio, Silverlake - YUM!

I ate there last night with my boyfriend and some friends and I have to say I was pretty disappointed. I had the linguini with scampi, which was very yummy, but my boyfriend's bolognaise was bog standard and not worth the price. My friend's seafood rice was very good but the cheese plate was a joke (sliced swiss and provolone).

Actually the food was fine, our problem was with the service. Our waitress, while sweet, barley spoke English and was unable to answer our questions about the menu. Our drinks came after the appetizers and only because we asked for them again. The food came out at all different times and they didn't clear our plates until we had to ask again.

The owner sent us a free dessert as an apology for us having to ask them to clear our table (we did not complain about it so we really appreciated this gesture). I'd say that the food is good, not amazing but the service will keep me from returning at least for a while.

TESCO Fresh and Easy

I lived in London for years and there are TESCOs all over the place. It's just a grocery store. They have ready made meals which are decent but basically it's nothing to get too excited about.

Soup in Santa Monica

I was totally dissapointed in the veggie soup at Winston's. It's flavorless and bland. I haven't tried the lentil.

LA Prime at the Boneventure Hotel

I love going to the revolving cocktail bar at the Boneventure but I've never eaten at the steakhouse up there. My boyfriend is flying in from London for Christmas in a few days and I thought it would make a lovely Christmas Eve Eve dinner. We had a very special evening there over cocktails once and now I want to try the food. Has anyone eaten there? What do you think? He'll get some sort of steak but I will get some seafood. Any suggestions? I'm not expecting the most amazing meal of my life but I would like a decent dinner in a unique enviornment. Your thoughts?

Best Cheese Plate in LA?

I love a good cheese plate and I get them almost everywhere I go. I'm wondering who you guys think does the best one. Your criteria can be whatever you want; best cheese selections, best portions, best bread, best sides.

I had the one at Dusty's a few weeks ago and it was very very yummy. Where else is good?

Vegetable Soup

It's funny that you mention Backdoor because I used to work there and that was what I was thinking when I posted the original post but I wanted to see if there were any other great places I was missing. I used to take big containers of it home with me (and their yummy cream of mushroom).

Soup season is upon us and I am looking forward to nights in my PJs and slippers, sitting on my sofa with my dog at my feet, the fireplace roaring, my best friend TIVO and a bowl of steaming soup in my hands. Bliss.

Vegetable Soup

Where can I find some yummy, healthy vegetable soup to take away? I am looking for something nice and chunky with some real texture preferably with a veggie stock. I work in Santa Monica and I live in Silverlake so it can be from almost anywhere in the city.

Seafood Burrito Pasadena?

Oh it's so yummy. I always get the seafood quesadilla. Come to think of it, it's been too long since I've been there. It's time to go again!

Office Holiday Party

We have been asked to suggest a few places for our office holiday party in December and I was looking for some input from you all since you've never let me down before. The suggestions put forth by the administrator are less than stellar, in my opinion (El Cholo, El Compadre). I guess that's a guide for cost and tone but I'd like to offer a few more interesting options. We’re an office of about 20 (plus partners) and we are based in Santa Monica but I think we could go just about anywhere in the city. Any ideas?

Dusty's on Sunset - How is their Dinner???

Actors are more eager to please.

Alaskan King Crab Legs, please

Oh wow. That sounds amazing. Thanks so much!

Taking Brits to dinner

Thanks for all the great tips! I am making a list and am going to let them decide.

Dusty's on Sunset - How is their Dinner???

I love Dusty's. It's down the street from me too and I think it's a lovely little place for dinner. My boyfriend lives in London and whenever he comes to town he insists we go there. I tend to get the salmon and it's always delicious and my bf is partial to their chops and heavier meat dishes and always loves it. Go hungry! The atmosphere is very dark and romantic but it would also be a nice place to go with a friend. Their brunch is amazing, as you know, but their dinners are special too.

Taking Brits to dinner

My English boyfriend is in town and we have gone to many yummy places over the past few weeks. We are having dinner with another couple next week; she's American and he's a Brit too. Where's a great place to take them? I'm looking for a restaurant with that special, Californian feel. Someplace where they will say "Only in LA!" Not kitschy, but unique. Any suggestions?

Alaskan King Crab Legs, please

That's exactly what I'm looking for, thanks!

Alaskan King Crab Legs, please

Thanks for these suggestions. I think I will check out The Hungry Cat because I've heard about it from many other people too. Have you been to The Lobster? Do you reccommend it? Happy eating, all!

Alaskan King Crab Legs, please

I had some amazing Alaskan King Crab Legs at Kokomo's in Las Vegas over the weekend and now I am craving them something fierce! Can anyone recommend a place to get good, simple crab legs with drawn butter in LA? I'm looking for a restaurant, not to buy them and make them myself. Thanks!
