Oktoberfest Breakfast

I've seen weisswurst at Kramarczuk's http://www.kramarczuk.com/ and as far as pretzels go a great make at home brand is Super Pretzel available at most super markets http://www.superpretzel.com/

Minneapolis Restaurant with Good Asparagus Dishes?

MSP: Tam Tam's African Restaurant

We don's have a place quite like this - but we do have 2 Indian Restaurants, a kebab restaurant, and an Afrifcan store/deli. They are all fantastic.

Green Bay Restaurants

We were in Green Bay for the marathon this weekend and had the honor of dining at Fratellos. They had something to please everyone in our 8 person party. A compliment to the the manager and all the cooks that night. The price point was reasonable and surely worthwhile for the service and food we received.

MSP - Honeycrisp apples?

Hy-vee North in Rochester, MN has them - probably from Pepin Heights in Lake City.

Rochester, MN

In order I would say:
Sontes
Prescott's Grill
Broadstreet Cafe
Jasper's

Babalu - Minneapolis

My wife and I were there back in November and fell in love. We ordered their Paella and it was simply the best in the Twin Cities!

Babalu

My wife is requesting Paella for her 29th birthday this Saturday. Has anyone had the dish at Babalu http://www.babalu.us/ ?

a "NICE" dinner mpls/wi

We just found a true blue hidden gem in North Hudson. It is a must visit for any foodie. It's called Idaho Chucks Santa Fe' Grill and Cantina. It bills itself as serving southwestern cuisine and also features a woodfire grill. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal and vowed to come back for another trial. Check it out and let us know what you think :-D

GOOD FOOD IN THE DELLS?

Moosejaw Pizza and brewing company might be good...but you will wait FOREVER for a seat; We pulled up at 4:45 and found the wait to be an hour and 30 minutes. Too bad...it's off to the Cheese Factory we go ;-)

Recs in La Crosse, WI?

I second the recommendation for Edwardo's Pizza Wagon. My wife and I cannot pass up the opportunity to dine there whenever we are in the neighborhood. Also, they offer a happy hour every night of the week if you arrive before 6pm and after 4pm.

Fish tacos in MSP

I have a friend who grew up in LA eating fish tacos and *raves* about the Baja Beach Shack Fish Taco Platter at Chino Latino.

Recommendations in Sparta WI?

My wife and I will be staying in Sparta WI mid-July at a local Bed and Breakfast. We hope to have a nice sit down meal after a full day of kayaking/canoeing. Does anyone have any recommendations for a place that is *not* a supper club? The worst case scenario is for us to head to LaCrosse (25 miles away) but would rather stay a little closer if possible.

Thanks!

Rochester, MN - Where to EAT

Nope and nope. Both restaurants closed over 3 years ago. I would recommend Newt's, McGoon's or Metro for something similar.

Twin Cities Malt Shot/Soda Fountain

Snuffy's Malt Shop on Larpenteur in Roseville - a good burger and a GREAT malt

Best Bets in Rochester, MN

I wholeheartedly agree with you rviot! I don't normally eat veagen (though sometimes vegetarian) but the salads and soups at the Back Room Deli are fantastic. I've also had their Spicy Spelt Burger which is to die for. Check out their menu at http://www.backroomdeli.com/

Cuisine of India (formerly Natraj Indian Kitchen) http://www.natrajkitchen.com/ is surely the best vegetarian Indian food in town. You can get just about anything you want if you talk to the waiter and make a request. They are very good at making their dishes to order...as long as they know what you want.

Aas far as Vietnamese, there are two choices... Pho Hoa on 18th Avenue...their food is so so, good Pho I guess but nothing different than what I've anywhere else. The second is a new place on Broadway that I've not tried but looks busy every time I drive by. Report back if you try it...it's surely on my list .

Best Pancakes MSP

I highly recommend the blueberry oatcakes at The North Pole Restaurant in Newport. It's a down home, comfort food cafe. You can order more than one...but by the time you finish indulging in the first one, you will be asking for a doggy bag for the second one. It will fill you up and you'll go home happy and satisfied.

Best Seafood in Rochester MN

Rochester seafood is a tough sell... Supposedly Michael's has fresh seafood - though I don't think I could bring myself to spend any money there to even try it. The Canadian Honker has fresh fish on Fri-Sat nights though the menu never changes. Jenpachi has fresh sushi if one could afford the prices. I guess that just leaves the walleye sandwich at Culvers.

If your husband is looking for GREAT food, decent prices, and a wonderful staff and service, I have two words...Cafe Presto! http://www.cfpresto.com It's directly across from St. Mary's and offers free delivery to the local area...with no minimum purchase. One of the best local unsung heroes.

One choice for local brews is Mantorville Brewing Company. They have two varieties, Stagecoach Ale and Smoked Porter The only place I know it's available is at the Hubbell House (ironically) also in in Mantorville.

Cooking Club (Rochester MN)

sadly I'm still waiting. I have half a mind to gather some Roch Chowhounds and make our own club!

A little Chicago in Rochester MN

Rochester Magazine just released their "Best of" restaurant list...take it for what it's worth...a mere suggestion of restaurants in the area.

btw - one restaurant not mentioned here that's worth checking out is Prescott's Grill - http://www.prescottsgrill.com/

MSP American Pie???

Here is a long drive but well worth the the trip, Whalen pie shop in Whalen MN. It's just off the bike trail in Lanesboro. Their pies are infamous in South East Minnesota.

Cooking Club (Rochester MN)

I'm still waiting to hear back about the Mayo Club. Do you know if it still exists...or if anything else exists in the area? I'm quite keen to become involved in cooking :-D

Rochester, MN - Where to EAT

I'm really intrigued by two dishes. First the Family Paella. It contains bamba rice, rabbit, chorizo, shrimp, mussels and roasted peppers. The second is Grilled Quail containing taro root puree, roasted tomato, grilled annatto corn ragout. They both sound fantastic and I cannot wait to indulge in them both.

Did they have any "specials" when you were there?

Abby B - I tried looking up your email on the chowhound profle but had no luck. Would you like me to post my email here or contact you in a different way?

the cheap fancypants food challenge (MSP)

I'm submitting Sunsets Restaurant ( http://www.sunsetsrestaurant.com )in Wayzta and Woodbury. *Most* of their menu fits the criteria and it's just a great place to dine. It varies quite dramatically and will please just about everyone in a big group of people. My wife and I devoured our first experience there just recently and will make many trips back to enjoy the dishes "we just couldn't decide on".

Rochester, MN - Where to EAT

One more addition I have to make is Cafe Presto on 2nd street (directly across the street from St. Mary's Hospital. Their service and menu offer simple yet wonderful! It has diner style feel with natural and healthy food. Their staple foods are the Gyros, breakfast crepes, and award winning chicken with a choice of four glazes (yep, I've had them all and can't decide on the best). Check them out if you're looking for something unique and different from the Rochester "chain" dilemma.
