[London] Drummond Street Restaurants
I personally like Sizzling Bombay for a tasty and cheap meal. Love their biryanis - the dal or veg curry that accompanies it is v tasty. It looks like a fast food place (and also does kebabs) and you sit on benches. No frills but no complaints from me :)
[Chester] 1539 Restaurant

Cheap places to eat in London.
HI joseph in terms of the chains, I'd say the best are the EAT cafes if you need something quickly.their soups are generally quite good.
Foody London Visit
Am a fan of Moti Mahal too..but then i haven't been to Benares...
A Green St chaat intro [London]
HI Justin - one of my faves there is Pride Halal inside Queen's Market. A group of indian women run it and you used to be able to see them making samosas in the back. Goes without saying, samosas are delish, am also partial to their dals and spinach & meat curries. No set menus and very basic but it's a place i keep going back to. Only open during market time though
buying konjac noodles in london
Thanks MoGa....yes last time i went to buy them in chinatown they had sold out! I'm going to really try and use them to lose weight after xmas. They are very filling, so if you stuck to a diet i reckon they could really work.
What's a cheap cut of meat just now?
Agree Phil D i'm in Angel, london and while i have a good local butcher (the one on rosebery ave it has nothing like the selection when i go to visit family in north wales. In the small market town of denbigh alone there are two excellent butchers - i went a bit mad buying their home made faggots, brawn, pork pies, cooked meats. Better choice than any i've seen in my local london area. Tip: Williams of Vale St Denbigh do v v good pork pies

Oh June..methinks I'll be asking you for recipes...I'm not the world's greatest cook..I just love eating! But I'll have a go...it'll probably be stir-fries unless more experienced CHs can suggest other things....

Best supermarket xmas buys
Hello fellow Chounds...I found some amazing florentines in Aldi this week...only 1.99 a box (packaging is nice, too)
Anyone started stocking up on Xmas goodies and who can recommend nice foodie things I'd otherwise miss?
Taste London Card: any great deals?
I used to use my tastecard to have a very tasty curry at Maida in Bethnal Green Rd. Their lasooni sag is absolutely delicious.
Loose leaf tea
Hi there - I buy my spiced masala teabags, £1.50 for 40 (chai express brand) from an Asian supermarket in Green st upton park. don't know the name but may be going this weekend so will be able to post exact address. Nearer into town you may be able to get them from the supermarkets in brick lane
Gambian food in London?
Hello - trying to find any gambian places to eat in London.
Heard about a place on Holloway Rd but it is Ghanian, not Gambian...any help please.
Which Indian restaurant in London?
moti matal was amazing when i went there - had the tasting menu at £39 a head (i think) and it was pretty special.
haven't been to quilon yet...anyone been recently and is it still good?
terrible restaurant names
The post on fried chicken below got me thinking about unsuitable names for eating places.
Apart from Stepney/Alaska/Kilburn Fried Chicken, the worst place I've come across is a place called Greedy Cow in Mile End...not that I went in there...
Anyone else seen any horrors?
Where is the best fried chicken?
Alaska Fried Chicken? I thought Stepney Fried Chicken was pushing it when I saw it on a bus trip to east London...! (Surely it should be Alaska Fried Whalemeat..... *Gets coat and leaves*)
[Abergele] Kinmel Arms
John, next time you're in the area, try the Bistro in Rhyl..had an excellent meal there two weeks ago.
[Liverpool] Panoramic
Good to see you back here, John. Enjoying your new reviews! You'll have to go to North wales soon and publish your verdicts. Had a good meal at the Bistro in Rhyl on sunday. Good sunday lunch choices...best I've had in the area for ages

fresh fenugreek leaves - central london?
Hello I live in the N1 area and work in Soho. Anyone know where I can buy fresh fenugreek leaves to use in my dal as I have got addicted to them but unfortunately don't always have the time to go to the East End to buy them. tried see woo in chinatown today, no luck.
The other nearest I know is Taj stores in brick lane, but if anyone can recommend anywhere closer to west end/angel that would be great
Aberystwyth - birthday dinner?
Hi Elizabeth, don't know the area well, but the quaint town of Aberaeron is about a 30 min drive south and I'm sure I've seen some good write-ups of places round there. Try googling...and try looking on the guardian newspaper website..sorry I can't hunt them out for you but at work at the mo x Good luck
London Bread....
Yes I've seen Poliane loaves (or bits of loaves in my waitrose but I am too tight to pay nearly £5 a go for bread!) Not a big bread person, to be honest, but Gail's onion loaf is delicious. They also do sourdough and other varieties.
London Bread....
A branch of Gail's Artisan Bakery has opened close to me in Exmouth Market and I am already addicted! Yikes, can't believe I'm paying nearly £3 for a loaf....(that's my welsh puritan roots coming out)
Check them out online ---they are also stocked in branches of waitrose
Christmas shopping - top tips please
Would be interested to hear from other Chowhounders what goodies they particulary like to indulge in at xmas...some little gems from supermarkets would be great . Am interested in cheeses, chocolates and liquors for cocktails....but any good tips to try would be appreciated as I have lots of time off between xmas and new year and intend to eat, eat, eat....
Comfort Food Clerkenwell? [London]
I like the crown in clerkenwell green....very traditional old pub. Not eaten there a lot but recently had a very decent sunday roast there. Much cosier (and probably lots cheaper) than Modern Pantry/Ambassdor/Caravan etc....it depends if food or setting/ambience etc is the priority
