gazpacho in the upper west 30's

well the title pretty much sums it up, with the NYC summer starting up I need something to cool me down from the heat and humidity.

Is there any good gazpacho in the west side upper 30's lower 40's. My office is at 8th ave and 38th and I am hoping that there is some available around here.

on a completely different topic (but same neighborhood) is there any good Indian around here? There is Thai all over, but I am seeking Indian.

east village options

Hello All,

We are taking my father out tonight for Fathers Day (no one including my father is actually available on actual fathers day). I tried getting a reservation at the Mermaid Inn (2nd ave btwn 5th and 6th), but they are booked on tables for groups of 5 although they did mention we could just try walking in. I was told they don't take reservations for the back patio and we are going to try that.

My question to all the chowhounders is if I can't get get in or if the wait is too long (over 1/2 hour) what's good in the immediate neighborrhood that we could walk to? cuisine isn't an issue although chinese, thai and mexican should only be last resorts.

I've read on these boards that Cacio e Pepe (sp?) is supposed to be good is it?

Where else nearby is worth it?

TIA

Great Burgers Lower Westchester?

Gordy's is a good burger, although I usually go for other items when I am there. I personally don't think it's as good as Pipers Kilt or the Candlelight, but it's fairly close. I wouldn't go out of my way to get there, but if your nearby it's more than OK.

Boss's Birthday lunch, Help!

Looking for a sit down lunch for the boss and about 7 others. Can't be super expensive ( it can be regular expensive if that makes sense), but we are looking for something better than a dinner as well.

We are in located in midtown west (8th ave btwn 37th and 38th) and are looking for something in walking distance (I know I know it all depends on who's doing the walking) but a reasonable distance.

One suggestion mentioned was Keen's Steakhouse (36th @ 6th), but the birthday boss is not a big beef eater, but something along those lines (not necessarily a steakhouse) to kill 2 hours for a Friday lunch. a few drinks a few laughs some place not super noisy either. Definetly no BBQ, Chinese, Japanese or Thai.

I know the area well enough for a cheap lunch but not for the fancier stuff, chowhounds please help

Redneck Texans in search of quintessential Italian

Borgo Antico (Tuscan), 22 East 13th Street (near Union Square), Restaurant is located in a brownstone; nice, intimate dining room; good pasta and Italian-style game dishes; we’ve eaten there about 3-4 times over the years

Basilica Italian Restaurant, 676 Ninth Avenue (47th St.), Never eaten there but it has been recommended by a friend. Reviews say it is a small, authentic family-style Italian restaurant...a good value. Maybe you’ll try it out and let me know?

Moving! heading to a new nabe will be at 8th ave btwn 37 & 38

come on, someone must have an idea about this neighborhood.

where do I go for decent lunchtime, Thai, Chinese, burger (is burger and cupcakes any good or am I going to White Castles?) Mexican, and a good bar for after work, it's a must. Even places to go for a lunch meeting, both on the cheap when it's an in-house staff lunch and something classier to impress the clients

please help

El Parador revisited

it's a great place, if you read my profile here at chowhound I put it as one of the underrated restaurants by chowhound. interestingly enough you ate just about everything I don't and it was all good. If you had the round table, you where up front in the bar area, which always makes newcomers nervous, but the service there alleviates all that.
with a group we usually order the guacamole, 3 mushroom quesidellas, and peanut butter stuffed jalapenos. Main course for me is usually the rib-eye, or porkchops, the boullibase is an option or the baja style fish tacos (they are a special, so you can only get it once in a while) I am not a fan of mole in general, but friends who've been with me and had it say it's excellent.
what happens at El Parador is the staff is predominatly if not entirely from South America - different countries and they experiment (carefully) with the dishes so while it can be labled a Mexican restaurant it has more South American influences than that (plus I don' think any mexicans work there) venezualan, columbian, argentinian sure
plus there is the downstairs room to rent out if you have a bigger event or party

also they have a great selection of tequilas!

Victor's Cafe

IT's pretty decent place, can get real crowded when they have someone playing piano or whatever in back, food is solid (specials seemed like a good deal and very tasty) if not inspired and the service is very good at least it was last march which is the last time I was there.
