NUAGE - Greenwich

Went for the first time and was very surprised in a bad way. Decor seemed old and it was pretty empty for 7PM on a weekday. Had a nice cocktail to start and then the food came. The sashimi appetizer was SO small that it was gone in 3 bites. We ordered the tuna sandwich which was a spin on a sandwich, but was terrible It was a LOT of rice, some spicy tuna inside and a layer of soy paper on top...we sent it back. Next was the Octopus. This was SO SO heavy on the garlic that it also, was not good. We had some nice Sake and then left and went somewhere else to get the rest of dinner. I would not recommend this place.

Looking for Dinner at "old country inn" - good food, roaring fireplace!

La Cremaillere is in Bedford but SO great. Feels like you were transported to Provence and the food is wonderful.

Nikki,
I agree with you! I go there ALL the time too and was there actually last night. Great tuna tartar, oysters and we did have the lobster mac and cheese and a grilled salmon. Service was fine and it was crowded.

DOLCE CUBANO - STAMFORD

Mushroom....I also agree that ZaZa was not so great. Being a huge foodie and moving here from NYC, I have found a lot of restaurants sub par, but recently some great ones. In Stamford, Siena is putting out some great rustic Italian as is Aria. Hudsog Grill has a few good dishes, but yes...unadventurous. In SONO, I have liked recently Estia and Match. For better food, I am now leaning to New Canaan such as Blvd 18 and Elm and Tuscan. Greenwich has some great places as does Westport. I also really like Moderne Barn in Armonk.

DOLCE CUBANO - STAMFORD

This is the same owner as ZaZa. Most items in the tapas can be found on the menu from the other place as well. More friends this week also said the food was fair at best....

DOLCE CUBANO - STAMFORD

This just opened on the waterfront about a week ago. Went on Saturday night for dinner and at 7PM we were told there was a 2.5 hour wait. We stood at the bar for a drink and noticed about 5 unused tables for 2 and for 4 people that stayed that way for over a half an hour. We took a seat at the bar and decided to order there. Bartenders were not attentive at all and FINALLY took our order after trying to get their attention for about 20 minutes. Shrimp Ceviche, Salmon and Chicken with hot peppers and rice. That was all we ordered and since it took close to 1 hour and 45 minutes to even see that food, we had 3 glasses of wine in the meantime. When it finally came, it was fair at best. Chicken dish came without hot peppers and potatoes were on the plate instead of rice which they said "they ran out of". The decor of the restaurant is beautiful but if the service and food stays like this, it will not last until summer. Oh, and there is no one watching the coats and you do not get a tag for it. They are put on a hanger on a rack and anyone can take your coat...be careful.

Lolita in Greenwich is great and fun. On the Ave, I would suggest Morello Bistro or Polpo is fantastic as well.

BLT STEAK - FANTASTIC

Went last night for the first time after reading and hearing mixed reviews. Arrived early for a 7:30 reservation and were seated right away. Started with a glass of Champagne while they brought out Duck Liver pate and the best Popovers ever. Service was flawless as we were checked on throughout the night by the waiter, Manager and another man but not sure of his position. Appetizers were the Tuna Tartar which was different due to the fried onions on top of it and a nice size portion, and 1/2 dozen Oysters. Main courses were the ribeye done perfectly medium rare and the Grilled Branzino which had a bit salty, but interesting mix on top of the fish. Sides were the hen of the woods mushrooms and the sauteed spinach. Dessert.....2 kinds of Sorbet. Everything was great and looking forward to returning.

Best low cal, low carb, high protein bar favorites????

I have been eating 2 bars as of late. The fruit and fiber bar and The Simply Bar. These are both great and hold me over until the next meal.

Le Bateau Ivre

What a great wine bar. Stopped in for a bottle of wine (the list is FANTASTIC) and a cheese plate. On the plate were nuts, 4 types of cheese, grapes, dried Apricots and a Fig puree. Perfect afternoon. We had arrived at 3PM when the band was just ending, so I will have to go back for that.

Ocean Grill and Avra

Yesterday I ate my way through Manhattan.... brunch at Ocean Grill on the UWS as I have not been in a long time. Still nice enough to sit outside, so we did. The only thing bad was the service which was SO slow and the waitress never even brought the coffee that was asked for twice. Other than that, we started with perfect bloody mary's, and pumpkin bread. Main courses were the Lobster Benedict, Seafood Cobb and the Chicken Cobb salad... all were good and made up for the slow service.

Dinner that evening was at one of my favorite places Avra on E 48th streeet. Service is flawless and at 6:30 it was already pretty crowded. By 7PM, it was full. Started with a bottle of wine and then appetizers of the Octopus and the Grilled Shrimp. YUM!!!!! Dinner I picked 2 fish - the Dorade and the Lavraki with a side of Horta. Everything is just made so perfectly....then we splurged and ordered the Baklava...this was the best I have every had as it was decadent but not too sweet.

What a great day.

Rowayton Seafood was dissapointing.....

Having been many times before and the awsome new reviews, I decided to go this past Saturday night. Arriving early at 6PM, the outside area was mostly full and quite louder than I recall. Tuna flatbread to start which is always good. Other appetizers were the clam chowder and oysters. Both were fair at best. Main courses were the tuna and the blackened mahi mahi. These were 2 of the smallest pieces of fish I have ever been served and the rest of the plate was rice. I am not sure if this was an off night for the Chef, but a complete dissapointment. Desserts were the sorbet which lacked flavor and was icy and the key lime pie which tasted more like a cheesecake. My friend was very upset as this was a $200 bill and we will not be going back for a VERY long time.

Bar Rosso - Stamford

I was hesitant to go back, but heard they changed Chefs and that it was better. The wines by the glass are not impressive at all and way to sweet for my taste and my friends the other evening. We had tapas of: Salmon Carpaccio, Tuna Tartar, Octopus and a beef. All were just ok and the only one we liked the most was the Tuna. Place was semi-full at 7:30PM and not returning too quickly for the food.

Best of Stamford

ZaZa stores all their wine too warm, so I would not pick that as a great wine bar. Also, for Italian, I would suggest Aria or Columbus Park over Bar Rosso where the food really is not that good. I agree with mostly all of your other picks. Ate at Remo's recently and it was much better than I had expected it to be and great size portions.

Artisan - Dissapointed

Ate at Artisan at the Delamar Hotel in Southport for the first time last night. I had heard mixed reviews on it and would not go back for the food. Appetizer was the "waldorf" shrimp cocktail that tasted of nothing more than pure mayonnaise and none of the food flavor came through. Main course was the Salmon which was good, not great. Wines by the glass were not thrilling either. Maybe the Winter menu will be better.

Harlan's Social, Stamford

Been only for drinks and they serve them in Mason jars which is akward. I have heard one good review on the shrimp tempura and salmon. Talked to a few other people who said the food was "fair at best" except the burger which was really good.

Tarry Lodge - any recent experiences?

Had dinner there this past Saturday night. Sat in the bar area which was crowded but fine. Appetizers were the smoked trout, octopus and the salad with white beans. All were good but the octopus portion was small. I then had the Branzino and roasted cauliflower side. Both were full of flavor. Food is good, not great but all in all a fun night.

La Cremaillere - Reviews???

Went on Saturday night and had an amazing experience. The restaurant at 8PM was crowded with the ages ranging from late 30s to mid 70's. Not stuffy at all...and very much reminded me of a French Farmhouse transporting me far far away from NY State. The service was seamless as was the decor. Our waiter was wonderful and he was excited when we ordered a wine that was one of his favorites and offered a tour of the wine cellar. From the Chef came a phyllo filled with spinach and cheese. Appetizers were the Smoked Salmon with freshly made bilinis and the Lobster Ravioli which I would tell everyone to get. Next came a cold melon/cucumber soup and then the main courses. I had the Snapper special which had a truffle sauce with mussels and shrimp in the broth and the other main was Veal. Both were rich, but not too rich and bursting with flavor. Dessert....yes, we had to try that, was the Apple Tarte with vanilla ice cream. This was a decadent and special dinner, but I would return for sure!

OK....went last night and it was a complete dissapointment. 8PM and maybe 4 tables had customers, yet it took forever for service. When we asked the waiter for suggestions and descriptions, he had none and was trying to read off the menu. Appetizers were the fish carpaccio and the salmon carpaccio. Both were drowned in oil with a coating of rock salt. Main courses were the seared tuna and the pasta with lobster. Portions were small, pricy and lacked of any flavor at all. This is NOT somewhere I would go back to eat at. The bar looked ok, but the room still resembles the old Howard Johnson. The manager came over 3 times to check on us and told us that more people will come in the summer.....

EOS - Stamford

Went last night for the first time since I LOVE Greek food. Very dissapointed in the entire evening though starting with the service. Took forever for someone to attend to the table and the restaurant was mostly empty. Ordered a bottle of wine and the waiter then came over 4 times to see if he can take the order and it was odd. Appetizers were the grilled Calamari and the grilled Octopus. Both were good, not great. Main course was the same for both of us. The grilled Salmon with side of Horta and a side of the green beans in a tomato sauce. I asked for the Salmon to be Medium rare and they both came out well done with no flavor and saturated with oil. Same for the Horta. This is not greek cooking to me and I will not be returning.
