Weekend Report
They were higher than normal, but the place was totally full and people were waiting. The food is priced higher I think since the ingredients and the quality are all natural and most is homemade at the restaurant...including all the breads. I would not make going there a habit, but it was perfect before a visit to the Museum

Weekend Report
Friday night - Megu midtown. Service and decor were outstanding. Food was great. We ordered lots of cooked and raw food and no sushi.
Saturday - E.A.T for a bite before the MET. Never having been before, it was better than I had heard. We had the asian salmon on field greens and the omelette with vegetables over greens. They had wonderful breads on the side that were made there. Freshly squeezed grapefruit juice hit the spot.
Saturday night - CraftSteak. Much better than I remembered. We had oysters, sweetbreads and fois grois to start. I had the sea bass with a side of hen of the woods mushrooms and swiss chard. YUM. The 3 others all ordered steak and they could not rave enough. 2 were grass fed and the filet was corn fed. Desserts we had the donuts, sorbet and ice cream. Service here was wonderful.
Sunday - Decided on a whim in SoHo to show a friend a few places. First were oysters and champagne at Aquagrill...always a pleasure. Next stop was the shellfish plateau at Blue Ribbon which had the most amazing King Crab. Last stop was Blue Ribbon Sushi. We had the miso cod, sashimi, miso eggplant, mushroom soup and a nice bottle of Sake.
I think I am staying home a couple of nights now :)

Thanksgiving Mishaps
2 stories actually. First was when I was about 10 and we had about 15 people over. After hours and hours when we SHOULD have smelled a wonderful turkey cooking, my mom (who was not a cook) opened the oven door and she announced she "forgot to turn the oven on" . Good thing that we had lots of side dishes. Second was last year when everyone was sitting and starting to eat all the wonderful food at the table. The bread basket was being passed around when the cloth napkin in the bread basket passed over the candles and went into a huge ball of fire. Someone grabbed it off the table and threw it into the sink... made for an interesting start to the meal.

What to order at Bond St?
$100 is not going to get you too far at Bond Street. The food is really good and although they have a GREAT spicy tuna roll, I would go for some of the cooked appetizers and main courses. Miso glazed cod is a must. Ask the waiter as to what they suggest and they can put a bunch of suhi together if you tell them a price range. Enjoy your night...I have been there so many times and going back this Sunday. You can also sit at the sushi bar in the back and order as you go along...a fun option.

Padre Figlio - Anyone been yet?
I agree. It was good, but would not run back there as it was empty when I was there too. Service was good too.

Asia De Cuba.....Still Great
Went last night and by 7PM, almost every table was full. Started with the Scallops (so good) which had a touch of sweet made with carmelized plantains. Also had the tuna tartar which was good, but a little messy to eat. Main courses were the salmon (YUM!) which had the most amazing mushrooms under it and the miso cod. Both were made so well and the cod had edamame and black beans on the plate which I ate all of. We did not have time for dessert, but the service was wonderful and I look forward to going back soon. Even though the plates are made to share, there were 2 of us and with the 4 dishes, it was the perfect amount.

Nice Italian/Steakhouse/American without excessive noise level
Scarpetta is amazing. BLT prime is much better than BLT steak. I would also highly reccomend Babbo if you can get in. I have had 2 great meals at Union Sq. Cafe last year as well. As far as a quieter steakhouse, I would pick either Primehouse in Union Sq. or Dylan Prime in Tribeca. Have fun!!!!

New Oceana
I am surprised you did not like it as much. I thought it had much more variety than the old spot and the food in my opinion was much better. It is a lot larger and louder, but overall an improvement.

Just got done with dinner. Ambiance and service is outstanding. The chef is super sweet as well. Started with the poke trio, oysters in a vinagrette and the crabcakes. All were wonderful and had great spices in them. Main courses were the salmon a la plancha ( SO good) and the simple scallops. Side dish of the mushrooms and the brussle sprouts with maple and bacon...yum. Desserts were a trio of sorbet (pear, banana and fig) All were very well made and the lollipops of peanut butter and chocolate pudding. We left very full and happy.....yes, all that for 2 people and we ate it all.

Wine Pairing for Lobster Fra Diavolo
I also tend to disagree with the red. I would pick a nice Pinot Grigio or similar to act against the spice of the dish and round it out.

Doing a Coq au Vin dinner for 9. Any suggestions for an appetizer?
I agree that the main course is a rich dish (but wonderful) so the appetizer should be lighter. If you want to go with the French theme, I would do seared scallops over greens with a balasamic reduction drizzled over it.

Check with the Plaza to see if they still do this...it is great. Also, the four seasons hotel and maybe the Peninsula. All in your area.

Four Seasons Restaurant - Party of 8
I have been at a table of 6 in the pool room 3 times. Every time was wonderful and it does not matter where you sit. Dover sole is great as is everything else. The cotton candy at dessert was a fun way to end the meal. They give that to you regardless, so you don't have to order it.

Which of Bobby Flay's Manhattan Restaurants is better? Mesa or Bar Americain?
I had very subpar food at both places. If I HAD to choose, I would pick Mesa.

Do you carve your turkey in front of everyone in the dining room or just bring it out carved?
OMG Chris too funny. Only to be topped by the day when I was little and my mom put the turkey in the oven ...then forgot to turn the oven on. We had to run out to the store to get more food...

Do you carve your turkey in front of everyone in the dining room or just bring it out carved?
I agree, but since everyone has gathered in the kitchen area, it is an event in itself. The bird comes out, everyone sees it resting in the middle of the room and then the younger generations love to watch the carving take place up close. 2 Birds this year...not a bad idea.

Bring it out carved. Like to seperate the light from the dark meat and not bring the whole thing out at once.
