Food Network show looking for your favorite outrageous food

there's this outrageous guy that makes odd combos of cakes in the big city of spicy baltimore. you should have him on the show.

al pacino pizza on falls road

thanks for giving me a menu that says you are open until midnight on friday, but you should also tell people that you stop answering the phones at 10:30. fortunado's gladly accepted my big order tonight.

corks sushi night

has anyone tried corks thursday sushi night? just wondering how it is, and what is on the menu. thanks.

Best "affordable" steak in Baltimore?

i second corks tuesday steak night. it is seriously worth it, i had the ny strip. i stayed away from the cabs due to the fact that i knew one of their half price bottles is $10. they had it marked "half price" at $12 a glass.

anyone ever try corks wednesday night pasta special? have been wondering about that one..............

The Hill Restaurant: Baltimore

this place has been getting torn up in every review i have read. i live about half a block away from it, and had thoughts about trying it. after reading all these reviews, i have abandoned that thought, and am wondering what they are going to call the next bar after the hill closes up shop. since my last visit to metropolitan, i made the decision that any affiliation to/with metropolitan means an immediate expulsion from my list of places to try.

tuesday night at corks

heading to corks tonight for half price steak and cabs. will report back tomorrow.

The Bicycle has closed....

i believe it's regi's, don't know, and wine market that will accept up to $50 worth of outstanding gift certs.

saturday night dinner?

coming into philly from baltimore for the night, and already have standing reservations at osteria. my group has been weighing all the reviews, and since there are a few big eaters, we are thinking we might change venues. we are not a group that is tightfisted, but there are some concerns over how much we will need to spend to actually be full from the meal. i figured that the same amount of money would be spent at the cap grille, but would be guaranteeed to be full. i just wanted to see if anyone had any nice places that we could spend around $100 per head, and walk out of the restaurant satisfied and full. the group is pretty much open kind of food so any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Crabs in Baltimore - HELP!

if you're at the harbor, you could take a short trip, about 2 miles (5 minutes) to lp steamers on fort ave in locust point. it may not be the best place in all of baltimore, but it would suit your needs for the weekend.

where to buy softshells

awesome. i will be there to pick up a half dozen this weekend. thanks for the info.

Best Thai in Baltimore

as you can see, it's tough to argue with thai arroy. it seriously rocks.

where to buy softshells

i have been calling my usual baltimore seafood haunts to find out if they are selling fresh softshells, but they only have frozen. do i really need to take a ride to the docks to get them? anyone see some out there yet this year?

does anyone know if Ryleigh's has $2 crab night tonight?

thanks for the insight. that sounds gross. hope you didn't get ill. i bought the phillips crab meat, jumbo and regular lump, a couple weeks ago from costco in glen burnie, and although it isn't chesapeake crab, it was still pretty good.

does anyone know if Ryleigh's has $2 crab night tonight?

i was thinking about going to the other seafood stand to give them a try. what didn't you like about them? i've always been concerned with the fact that their "raw" shrimp have orange shells. never understood that. i heard they sometimes have soft-shelled crabs too, but i've never seen them. i might make a stop this weekend and pick a few up if available.

what restaurants offer free birthday stuff that's worth it?

i took my brother to the capital grille for a belated birthday and they brought out a dessert sampler with 3 of their pies on it. key lime, chocolate ganache, and some peanut butter one, if i remember correctly. i told them ahead of time when i made the reservations. i was surprised by it, my waiter got a nice sized tip, and i continue to go there.

Favorite Sushi: Baltimore

minato is my go to place. i have not been disappointed with any of their sushi, and the pho is addictive.

yeah, they serve pho.

Junior's Wine Bar

nice, fresh calamari is not fishy. week old, second or third use calamari will probably be fishy.

Junior's Wine Bar

i know what you mean. i think they still have kinks to work out. their seasonal menu has the dish i had on it, and it had fresh tomatoes in it. any amateur chef knows that you can't find great tomatoes this time of year. i think they need to retool the kitchen, but at least they show promise. the thing i would be worried about is that it has been open for a little while and these kinks are still occurring. this place was a major investment, and they could be s.o.l. if they don't get their act together quickly.

Junior's Wine Bar

specifically i had the pappardelle with calamari meatballs. the portion was miniscule and the calimari meatballs ruined a great ingredient, and tasted fishy. the dish was so underseasoned that it was almost tasteless except for the fishy calamari meatballs. i tried the duck pizza, and it was alright, it didn't wow me.

Flemings or Capital Grille in Bmore?

i'm a grille fan myself. it's tough to say no the doli's like someone already said, and i've always had ridiculously great service. i usually stuff myself. last time there i had a kc strip with a molasses glaze that was perfect. don't forget the coconut cream pie at the end either. i'd probably say it's too late to make reservs at either place for this friday unless you go at an off time.

Junior's Wine Bar

i guess that means i won't be heading back there. you really liked it? really? the vibe is ok, they just need to find decent food to match it.

Junior's Wine Bar

does anyone know if there is a different menu for the bar and restaurant? if there are 2 different menus then i might try this place again, but if there is not then i do not think i will be heading back. pasta...............not so good.

any good oysters recently?

i will head the advice and continue to use the dish-towel as a buffer between the oyster knife and my hand. i might just get the glove anyway.

any good oysters recently?

i've always thought the wegmans oysters looked ok, but for some reason and this is out of a dozen times being there and looking at them in the case for a minute or two, i have never been able to pull the trigger on buying them. maybe subconciously my brain cannot buy oysters from a grocery store. it's a tough proposition.

any good oysters recently?

sorry about that, yeah i'm talking about baltimore. i have never shucked my own oyster, and i want to learn. you never know when a skill such as that should be needed. i just want to try it. i have heard good things about conrad's, but have never been. that i probably where i am going to go.

any good oysters recently?

just checking if anyone has had any really good oysters in the area recently. either at a restaurant or from a seafood vendor/market. i am thinking of grabbing a couple dozen and shucking them myself this weekend. any recs?

Korean Buffets in Baltimore ?

i would forfeit the buffet idea and go for real korean offerings. not only would you get into the deeper catalogue of restaurants in this area, you would also get a nice lesson on authentic korean cuisine. seriously, there are some damn fine korean joints around here.

Hull Street Blues vs. Little Havana vs. Metropolitan for Brunch

i guess it's little after the fact now, but little havana is going to be interesting. there will be a long wait if you show up and want a table. i would rec finding a place at the bar and eating and drinking your mimosas there. 11-4 a.y.c.d. mimosas and bloodys with a breakfast entree. it's not a bad deal. be aware though, it is going to get packed in there.

metropolitan has decent food and passable coffee. sunday brunch service is pretty slow, but the place doesn't get over-crowded or anything. it's not bad.

i never went to the hull st blues brunch.

the philly cheesesteak (not in philly)

since this seems to have picked up some steam in another thread, i figured to start a new one.

let's hear about the places and their respective products. who is renowned in the baltimore area for cheesesteaks? what do they do that distinguishes them from the rest? who is most authentic to philly?

i'm not an authority on the subject, but i have eaten my share of philly chessesteaks in my 20 years of living there. i know what it takes to make a good one. i don't think anyone here has nailed it, or is within arms-length of getting there.

Iggies Pizza and other B-More disappointments

being from philly, i find it damn near atrocious that baltimore doesn't have better cheesesteaks, considering how many philly people live here. that being said, i would say magerks makes one that is similar to a philly chessesteak, but they are still very far off. glad to see you braved the elements to get one, but be aware that magerks still has work to do on their chessesteak. we need a new cheesesteak thread no doubt.
