Boulder CO - Breakfast Sandwiches?

Thanks - ok, breakfast burrito will get added to my list. Any other specific dishes? I'm not so much concerned with where i eat, it's more what dishes have people in town hankering to get more of..kind of like a Best Thing I Ever Ate episode about Boulder, ha.....thanks, if you have any other recommendations, please keep them coming, cheers

Restaurants in Breckenridge, CO

I'm heading to Breck for 2 days - can you recommend your top 5 or 6 favorite things to eat in town? Could be sandwiches, or a dish at a bar/restaurant, or....anything you think I should try while i'm there? Thanks!

Boulder CO - Breakfast Sandwiches?

Hi - i'll be travelling to Boulder for a few days - what should i eat off the menu while i'm there? If you had a best friend coming in from out of town for 3 days, what would the food itinerary be (breakfast, lunch, dinner)? I'm more interested in experiencing great tasting dishes in Boulder - doesn't matter so much about the establishment (just nothing fancy please). Thanks very much! Cheers. I love beer too :)

$15 to spend in Chinatown

Yes, that was my original gameplan, to do a mini food/walking tour, but when i entered the place and saw it was a nice sit-down restaurant, i altered the plan and decided to just sit and order a couple items. And when the waitier said he'd order for me, i expected him to bring Less than what i originally ordered (which was a $13.50 order of 3 items). He explained that was "too much food" and so when he started recommending some different stuff, i just (wrongly) assumed it would be less.

$15 to spend in Chinatown

Thanks for all the responses. My trip to Chinatown ended up being a disaster. Ok, that's a bit strong, but i had a very frustrating experience. Man - next time, i'll do things differently.

I'll try to be brief - i had a fantastic walk from the West Village into Chinatown - took Hudson Street and made a left on Spring Street and then a right on Mott Street. I decided to try "456 Shanghai Restaurant" for the Tiny Fried Buns w/ Pork. When i read that post, it really got me salivating, so i headed straight there. I figured i'd peruse the menu, and add another item to meet my $15 spending budget.

Upon arriving, i was a little surprised by the white table-cloth look of the place - i was expecting your typical Chinatown decor. After being seated, i looked over the menu and decided on a bowl of their "special" Wanton Soup, an order of the Tiny Fried Pork Buns and an order of Spring Rolls. Total cost was around $13.50. But then - out of nowhere, the Waiter tells me "nooo sir - that's too much food." I said, 'You think?" He said "Yes, way too much food for you." I said....'Okayyyy...." He said "Instead, you should get "broken English, couldn't really understand what he was saying" but i figured, Ok sure, i trust your judgement, sounds great.

My mistake. The waiter brings me a giant bowl of noodles with pork and shrimp and chicken. It was decent - too many noodles (and too thick) for my liking, but it had decent flavor. An order of Scallion Pancakes (average at best), An order of Steamed Juicy Buns (these were the best of the bunch, although in my opinion, not great - i've had much better) and finally, they bring this giant bowl of Wanton Soup (bland). And the bill was $22!

Of course i blame myself. Sometimes when i'm in a Chinese restaurant, i want to be surprised, and if the waiter wants to order for me, i let him. But obviously i should have specified what i wanted to spend, and....well, i guess it could have been worse. But man, was i frustrated leaving that place. The Waiter tells me my original order was "too much food," and yet he brings me 4 dishes, enough to feed a family of 4? Was he trying to get me to spend more and increase his tip?

Well, yes, it's my rookie fault for how things went down in Chinatown, and he got $1 for his tip. I will have to go back to square 1 and review all of your suggestions on this post for my next Friday jaunt into Chinaville.

Sorry for the lengthy tale!

$15 to spend in Chinatown

I'm taking the day off and feel like walking around Chinatown for lunch, but I'm trying to stick to a budget. I've got $15 in my pocket, and want to sample something really delicious. Any suggestions? I've tried the pork buns at Mei Li Wah, and wasn't too crazy about them. I've had soup dumplings at Prosperity Dumpling and Super Taste (great, both places). Any other suggestions? Thanks. Hoping i can sample 2 or 3 things.

Foodie news for Denver/Boulder?

Hey guys - i'm moving from Hoboken, NJ to Boulder early next year for work (might be for a year, maybe more), and i was hoping you might be able to give me some recommendations on where to live (what part of town, or neighborhood)? Ideally, i'd like to live near as many restaurants in walking distance as possible, and in close proximity to outdoorsy atmosphere. I'm a 38-yr old laid-back guy, love good beer and great food, wine bars, etc.

I'm looking for a rental (townhouse or condo or whatever), but not sure where in Boulder to start looking...

Cheers!

Jason

Telluride

Yes - Allreds - a memorable experience, mostly because of the views, but the food was pretty good too. And we also had a nice meal at 221 South, really nice menu. You should really go to 'There' for an after-dinner drink or 'pre-dinner' drink - cool ambiance, speakeasy feel, and try the bison tartare lettuce wraps...pretty darn good.

Telluride

Actually, there is a place called 'Red's' up on the mountain, it's the first stop on the Gondola on the way to Mountain Village. Probably the most incredible views i've ever seen in a restaurant. Food's pretty damn good too, and i believe they have a good Happy Hour. There's also a place called 9545 (i think, i get the numbers mixed up). It's got a latina-fusion kind of menu. Let me know the highlights when you get back...

Telluride

I was in Telluride this past September. Probably my favorite place on Earth.

I am a huge fan of Rustico - it hasn't lost a step. And if you are in the mood to splurge, get the NY Strip Steak at the Sheridan Chophouse - best meal of the trip. Here is a list of my go-to places in To Hell You Ride:

Rustico for pasta, veal marsala and caesar salad
Chophouse for steaks, creamed spinach and try the reuben (lunch)
Cornerhouse Grill for reuben and tator tots (and lots of delicious sandwiches, cool laid back vibe)
Floradora Saloon for big juicy Burgers
Brown Dog Pizza to watch sports and eat Pizza and drink beers
There for a speakeasy feel, tasty eats and innovative cocktails (on Pacific Ave)

We stopped going to Hongas after experiencing a disastrous meal after they'd moved locations, so i'm not sure. Enjoy your trip, you are one lucky s.o.b. Cheers.

Red Egg

I also thought the service was excellent - the host and waitress were both extremely polite and helpful. Dim Sum with a smile! What a unique concept. Also, the crispy seafood dumplings were great. I didn't try the desserts, but the ginger creme brulee sounded interesting. Also, i've attached a photo of the 'Radish Salad' (half eaten - it was a huge portion) and some shrimp/pork dumplings i ordered (yum).

Red Egg

Has anyone tried the 'Radish Salad' w/ Roast Duck at the Red Egg (dim sum restaurant)? It's one of the most delicious, unique dishes i've had in a long while. The "salad" is composed of crispy squares of turnip cake, tiny slices of roast duck and carrots, celary served with a hoisin-style dipping sauce. Lots of great textures and flavors going on. This is one of the better dim sum restaurants i've experienced and a really special dish. What else is a 'must-try' at Red Egg?

Manasquan Eats

Hi - can anyone recommend a great place near Manasquan to buy fresh produce, awesome bbq foods (butcher perhaps), and bakery for fresh bread? I have my seafood place (Spike's, the best) but need some really good meats, cheeses, fruits/veg, etc. Thanks!

So i'm heading down to the beach for 2 weeks and want to stock up on real good eats while i'm down there. Would love to find some kind of local butcher for bbq stuff and/or a bakery with fresh bread. My go-to place for fresh seafood is Spike's....that place is awesome. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Will be attending NYU in fall and need some good, cheap eats, comrades!

You lucky s.o.b.....ok, well, you've definitely got to hit up Corner Bistro at least once a week for bacon cheeseburgers and cheap beer (there Ale is $1 a mug i believe). You can get Awesome Bahn Mi Sandwiches at Baoguette Cafe (on St. Marks Pl) - if you've never had Bahn Mi - run don't walk - i prefer the Pork or Catfish Sandwich, but they're all good and cheap. And, of course, Pizza from Joe's. I'd keep these 3 places in your rotation for sure. Have fun man, time of your life.

Chinese-Style Clams Casino

Back in the day, a restaurant in Brooklyn called "Mah Jong," owned by Phil Chin, made the most incredible Clams Casino i've ever tasted - giant clam shells filled with chopped up clams, crisp bacon, green peppers, and an amazing bread crumb-type stuff.....it was heaven. Can anyone recommend a Chinese Restaurant in the NYC area that makes a great Clams Casino-style dish?

Thanks.
