Champagne - Tasting Program

The advantage of Mercier is the access via elevator and the tour is done on a train which the kids should enjoy. If you get to Moet and Chandon in Epernay, there is a choice of three "tours" - a tour finishing with one flute of Brut Imperial cost €13per person (2008 price) - for one Brut Imperial and one Rose Imperial it was €20 per person - the Grand Vintage Tour ending with 1 flute Grand Vintage 2000 & 1 flute Grand Vintage 2000 Rose was €25. The guided tours are all the same just the wine at the end differs.
If you are a couple, have one person do the first or second option while the 2nd person does the 3rd option. At the end, as a couple you get to share the taste 4 champagnes instead of 2 if you both paid the same amount.

What is the weirdest food you've tried in Tasmania, the Solomon Islands, the Polynesian Islands, or Fiji?

i've eaten Tassie possum at a bush tucker restaurant in Brisbane (tukka) but not in Tassie itself but a search reveals- "North of the Gordon River, near the small town of Marrawah, Geoff King runs the Devil Restaurant, an eaterie where road-kill wallabies and possums are on the menu."

Traveling to Brisbane- Ideas?

While in Brisbane if you are Looking for native Australian ingredients (bush tucker) cooked by a Frenchman try "tukka" http://www.tukkarestaurant.com.au there is a review at http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/ae2c2/1cabc3/2/ (with other Brisbane restaurants)

Not Enough Champagne? Don't Worry, We'll Make More!

I wouldn't bet money that some of those grapes have not been used to make Ch. or am I just an old cynic. What did interest me during my last 2 visits to the area '04 & '06 was land on upper slopes of the Marne being "re-profiled". Huge diggers altering the "terroir". Replacing &/ or redistributing the soil types. Also wooded areas high on the left bank being cleared, I assume, to grow vines in areas previously considered less desirable. "Licence to print money"???

North Coast NSW

At Kingscliff 's Salt Resort, we eat at Mahsuri which is named after the legend of a much malaigned Langkawi miss. The S East Asian name matches an influence with the cuisine of chef Andy Hastings, a Kiwi. Worth a drive to eat there!

Three Days in Paris

Agree with previous. Why leave the greatest city in the world if you are only there for three days?????

Unique Australian Foods

kmh is right (in most recent post, won't mention the taipans). You don't have to go Ocker - give the pies a miss, mate! Try the Ochre place in Cairns for the bush tucker experience. Elsewhere, you will find some very good eating places serving world class produce in a range of 'styles'. look for farmed seafood produce like oysters, soft-shelled crabs, mud crab, prawns, barramundi, tuna, salmon (& salmon roe) plus varieties of wild fish. If you eat red meat you will be well catered for... have fun.

Unique Australian Foods

Check out a list of unique Australian Native Products which you may be able to find if you can get to a restaurant specializing in "Bush Tucker" & in some that may use just a few native ingredients. As well as the animals you have listed , you may find Tasmanian possum & wallaby on menus. Look out for the local fish and shell fish like Moreton Bay Bugs. Have fun.

Canadian foodies looking to dine well -- Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide

In Adelaide : Grange @ the Hilton. Arguably the best restaurant in South Australia and in the top thirty in Australia. Awarded "Best Hotel Restaurant in Australia".
Chef, Cheong Liew has been recognised as a living legend. You'll love Adelaide : more eateries per capita than any big city in Australia. Have breakfast at the markets.

Spicing things up in Montpellier?

He should be able to find produce at the chain supermarkets. Poultry, pre-packaged from big supermache is usually affordable in France. Beans play a part in local cuisine. Canned stuff....cassoulet, choucroute (as is or as the base for adding extras).

Champagne Sabre

The last time I saw this done, I thought about the 3rd party insurance of the guy doing it & the insurance claim form. Does it have a special section to fill in the brand of champagne being used?? Such is life in these times of Workplace Health and Safety regs.

Doing a Bardge Trip in June Dijon to Escommes

Kath may well be tied into a schedule which includes the Paris -Dijon & return connections so surely it is the Paris part of the trip for which she seeks advice. The cruise will have a gourmet focus on board anyway and have day trips to off canal sites as well so advice re stuff along the cruise route is not so important . Hope the team message has not put her off researching the Paris part of her trip on this board!!??
