Great Food in a scenic setting on PCH between LA and Monterey

Highway One (PCH) ends in the Oxnard/Ventura area and you will then take the 101 up the coast to San Luis Obispo where you can get back on Highway One taking you to Morro Bay, Cayucos, Cambria, etc.

San Simeon Suggestions

Go a little further north and you can go to Nepenthe in Big Sur, but Cambria is your best bet. Linn's (for the Olallieberry Pie), Sow's Ear, Main Street Grill, Indigo Moon and Wild Ginger.

Santa Barbara casual lunch

Do you want casual or spectacular? Easy accessible from the 101 I would say Stella Mare's in Montecito, Hollister Brewhouse in Goleta or Fresco in Santa Barbara's 5 Points Shopping Center.

santa barbara dinner - narrowed it down to 4

Jane and Opal can get noisy. Square One is lovely, but it can get noisy when there is a few people in there. Stella Mare's is quite lovely. Seagrass is quiet. Petit Valentien is quaint and small. Downey's is a little on the pricey side...but well worth it.

)

Stella Mare's (in Santa Barbara stones throw away from beach)

SB help! Girls lunch & night out ideas

Santa Barbarians really don't "do" chains. There is a new Marmalade Cafe in La Cumbre Plaza, so you can start there. It's quite far from the beach, though.

You might try Blue Agave... http://www.blueagavesb.com/
a little more than your price range...but would satisfy your other wants, I think.

Driving to Monetcito from LA-Lunch Recs?

Must do dinner at San Ysidro.

You might want to investigate the backroads of the area and go through Ventura to Ojai.

I don't think anywhere. Santa Barbarians tend not to go for the deep fried stuff.

Santa Barbara -- Help!

Depends on what you are looking for.

Of those you mentioned, I would say Bouchon.
Although it's not mentioned, if you can go to Ca Dario....do.
Stay away from the Bacara restaurants.

Lunch in Santa Barbara

The Harbor Restaurant is overpriced and geared toward just tourists.

Stella Mare's is a lovely stop for lunch.
Montecito Cafe is well priced.
Louie's at the Upham Cafe is terrific.
Carlitos Cafe right across from the Arlington will give you a good SB downtown feel.
The Paradise Cafe is an institution. Food so-so.
Brophy Brothers if you want to chow down like a true local.

The restaurants down in that area tend to be more "touristy" than anything, so you will probably have to go a little "further" out. However, there is a good small Italian restaurant, Emilio's down near the hotel.
http://www.emiliosrestaurant.com/

For Vegetarian, you should visit "The Soj" (Soujourner Cafe) a mainstay of the city for decades. I don't know if it's big enough for 12 though. (Not many places in Santa Barbara ARE that big....) Spiritland Bistro would be delightful, albeit small.
http://www.spiritlandbistro.com/

Epiphany is a lovely restaurant with a moderately priced menu with some mean martinis.

Stella Mare's has a romantic feel and lovely ambience. Nicely priced menu.

Vandenberg Village is nowhere near Santa Barbara. It's in the County...but quite a distance from the City.

She should try cooking up some great Asian food for herself.
