Akron restaurant recs
Not a fan of Luigi's. At all. They do not treat employees well and their pizza is not that great. We are going to the concert, too. Might give 3 point a try. Menu looks decent.
Rehearsal Dinner - NE Ohio. Please help a NY Hound out.
I second and third Bistro on Main. We had our rehearsal dinner there, and because of the small number of people, we were seated in the main dining room & everyone ordered off the menu. The room in the back is very nondescript, but would seat 40 or 50 comfortably, I think. Everything is GREAT there. I can't get enough of the salmon dish w/ orzo & flash-fried spinach (think crumble-in-you-mouth potato chips). They are so good. The bread service is one of the best in NE OH, imho, and I'm a huge bread fan.
The price point is definitely cheaper than 140 or the old Turner's Mill. I imagine you are interested in that since you didn't appreciate the $50 extra fee in Hudson.
Oh yeah, and there's a Stoddard's Ice Cream cone stand right next door. Yum.
Commander's Palace Questions
We were there yesterday. My husband was concerned because he just had jeans. They let him in, no problem. I did not see one pair of shorts or a tshirt in the place, but mant prs of jeans. You are fine. It is cold in there, so take a sweater. Food was fabulous. We had the shrimo and tasso app, pork tenderloin, a pig & fig salad, a CP salad & 2 martinis. Bread pudding souffle for dessert. $49 w/out tip! Such a deal!
Lunch on Good Friday?
Thanks for the website! We are looking forward to our trip in 2 weeks!

NYC Foodie First Time (Birthday) Trip to New Orleans April 11-16
I second that. I have 4 words for you: Brown Butter Banana Tart. OMG, SAID THE CHOCOHOLIC!
Lunch on Good Friday?
Is Good Friday a special day for lunch in New Orleans? I've heard that it is.... any recommendations? We're wide open, plus we'll have a car.
TIA,
Janbo
Stevia? Love it or hate it?
I like the packs from TJs. It has a good flavor & it's all I've been using for 3 years. I use real sugar when I cook/bake.
There are some brands that are really awful, but I do like the Trader Joe's brand.
Save me from Chain food please = Great plain Food in Niagra / Niagra on the Lake area
We enjoyed it last Saturday night & because we made a res, were seated at the window with a beautiful view before it got dark. The beef pot pie was delicious as was my husband's pasta du jour (beef & shrooms). Very nice waitstaff.
high cholesterol
Thanks, MCF, for the thoughtful reply.... certainly lots to think about.
high cholesterol
Never had kippers, might be willing to give sardines another try (my dad would eat them w/ saltines when I was a kid) & I like wild salmon - should do that more often. Thanks.... jb
Save me from Chain food please = Great plain Food in Niagra / Niagra on the Lake area
I think Stone Rd might be too fancy schmancy for his wife... we love the place, but they might be a bit creative for the wife.

If you're there on a Thursday, I hear from the locals that one of the VFWs or Moose or Elks Clubs does a better-than-decent fish fry. Might want to ask around.
The CHEW
I think it would work better as a half hour show. Love Michael. Can't stand Carla & that head thing she does. I'm OK w/ Daphne. Bring Mama T in once a week, and we have something. Also? The recipes online look like they belong in an elementary school cookbook. Come on, people are not THAT dumb!
high cholesterol
My tri were high (273) so my Dr put me on Lovazza, which is a high-test fish oil. After 6 weeks, it's down to 161 (and all of my other numbers got better, too!). I usually eat oatmeal for breakfast, skip butter, eat meat rarely & go "vegan" a couple of times/week. I go heavy on the fruits & vegs, too.
Which Heirloom Tomatoes did you prefer this Summer
We're big fans of Nyagous, a black variety, bursting with juice and flavor. They did very well in NE OH, coming in early & we just finished our last one this week.
Buffalo/I-90 to Niagara this weekend - best bets?
Thanks for the recs, JMack. Will look into Seabar & Hutches. Will probably pass on the Italian fare, as my Italian husband cooks for me quite often.

The CHEW
We are enjoying the show, and yes, it seems to be improving. We're fans of Symon's, being from NE OH. Loved the episode w/ Mama T. She should be a regular. Loved her... little old Italian lady with an attitude of how things are supposed to be. Don't know if we have "that kind of time" to watch full hour epsodes. We've gotten it down to a manageable 30 minutes, taking out all of the feeding the audience stuff and how do they like it stuff and here's what's coming up in our next segment stuff. Can't. stand. head-wagging. Carla. Mario looks like he has to hold everything together and be everyone's sous chef while they all stand around and gab.
Buffalo/I-90 to Niagara this weekend - best bets?
We would like to eat a great late lunch in the Buffalo area on our way to Niagara-on-the-Lake this coming weekend.
So far we've come up w/ Schwabl's. Is this our best bet or do you have any other great recs?
Doesn't -have- to be a beef sandwich.
TIA!

Cleveland-Great value meals near the Renaissance hotel
Yes, MS's restaurants are worth it. Even moreso, if you go to lunch. There are some nice menu choices at lunchtime. From the Renaissance, you can go to either steakhouse (Hyde Park or Morton's ) at happy hour and get some great bites and sips for $5-6 ea.
Brunch at Sweet Pea Cafe, Akron OH
Chowder House is the best restaurant in the Akron area right now. Their seared tuna app w/ asian noodles is spectacular, as is their bisque.
Brunch at Sweet Pea Cafe, Akron OH
Their food is OK, but their service is glacially slow. We don't make it a point to go there after 2-3 visits.
Best resturants in Akron, Oh?
NOT a fan of Barberton chicken (too greasy) & definitely not a fan of Luigi's, by the way (they treat their employees badly & their pizza is nothing to write home about).
Best resturants in Akron, Oh?
Golden Goose bakery on State Rd & Broad Blvd for superb baked goods.
Sugo on State Rd for Italian & its sister restaurant, Chowder House, which is putting out the best food in the Akron area right now.
I second Flury's.
Louie's for burgers on Tallmadge/Glenwood.
Swenson's for drive-in burgers.
Rocco's Pizza on Portage Tr. Excellent homemade sauces from a real Italian nonna & their fried chicken is unbeatable.
Handel's Ice Cream
Mexican taco and burrito truck on 91, a block away from Newton St. Superb & generous portions.

Lunch next Saturday...
We shared 5 starters for dinner this past weekend: roasted fennel chowder w/ smokey bacon; red beet and grilled carrot salad w/ watercress, pistachios and feta-mint vinaigrette; grated radish bruschetta w/ grilled rapini, mascarpone and sea salt; pork scallopini w/ red wine mashed potatoes, rapini, salsa verde and feta; ricotta gnocchi w/ wild nettle puree, pancetta, sorrel and dungeonness crab meat. Wow... yummy! The gnocchi was our least favorite, the rest vied for 1st place. DH had a glass of Soter Pinot Noir -- very very nice. We both give it 2 thumbs up for this Willamette Valley vino. You should definitely put this on your list. Oh yeah, the bread was from Ken's, of course.

We have a rez @Andina for lunch, but wondering if you recommend some other don't miss place? We will be visiting Powell's in the morning before leaving PDX for Newport in the afternoon and would love to eat somewhere close to Powell's. Any recs?
I've heard great things about Andina.
Thanks in advance.

4 days in New York - how are these choices?
We walked by Katz's yesterday around 1p after our visit to the Tenement Museum, and the line was almost around the block. We opted for 'inoteca instead and gelato at Il Laboratorio, across the street from Katz. My hub had basil --- wow! Delish.
