Alternative to Matt's Big Breakfast in North Phoenix area?

We have only 1/2 day left here in Phoenix, and were thinking of calling in an order 1st thing in the morning, and going down to MBB and picking up breakfast for 3 adults and 2 little ones. After re-reading the reviews, we are thinking it may not be worth the 20 minute drive; and we're also not totally sure they'll accept a call-in/take out order.

We are near tapatio cliffs. The thick bread toasts and fresh ingredients look to be the real pluses of MBB. What would be second-best, and a closer drive in our area for breakfast?

Thanks!!

Sugar Bowl or Sweet Republic

At Sugar Bowl, we sat in the video game/arcade room and had it to ourselves. The kids haven't napped or slept long enough in 5 days, so this was a good thing. We had so much at lunch we almost didn't want ice cream but got it anyway :-) The fruit, cottage cheese and nut bread was good. I could have done without the cream cheese so thickly on the nut bread so I just scraped it off. ice cream was OK, but it's about the experience. We thought the vanilla was best.

Sweet republic was very good ice cream. We got several different kinds, including a date ice cream, pecan, espresso sorbet and some sort of chocolate sorbet between all of us. Yum! Totally agree with all of you - glad we got lunch, and glad we went to sweet republic and got some really good ice cream.

Good Bagels to take home near Sherbrooke and Peel?

Mr. F - I was wondering about the airport - yes, I am flying back, within Canada. I will try Faubourg or hope they have fresh ones at the business meeting and then pick some up at the airport to bring home!! Though St-viateur is so tempting and I'll certainly go there if possible.

Good Bagels to take home near Sherbrooke and Peel?

I need to bring home at least a couple of bagels, and will be staying at Le Cantlie Suites for a couple nights next week, with maybe a little time (business) to run somewhere and pick something up.

I will not have a car, so quick walking distance would be ideal. I have read some threads so know not to expect anything great in terms of food in this area.

Thanks!

Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives (Canadian Version)

Thought I'd add that it looks like "You Gotta Eat Here" is filming at Memphis Fire tomorrow. We had also thought they'd be good for DDD. :-)

Cape Coral

Yeah, Bert's was OK - I didn't try the burger but my sense from DH was it was fine - nothing phenomenal but not bad. I got corned beef on rye (not a whole reuben) and it was fine, again.

Nino's in Ft Myers - Yum!! We stopped there (ninosondaniels.com) on the way to the airport to go home - we called ahead and ordered and they were so accomodating. The food was awesome! Stromboli, margherita pizza (lots of garlic), garlic rolls - great "fast food" - the cheese calzone was a mistake for us though - several pounds of cheese with ricotta - just too much.

Next time I'll ask for pizza sauce as dipping sauce for the stromboli/calzone - it seemed like it was a spaghetti sauce and I didn't really like it. Loved the sauce on the pizza, however! (will be funny if they are the same sauce and it's just different by itself)

Is Burt's that people talk about on here the same as "Bert's" on Matlacha? Thanks!!

Oh and completely off topic - has anyone ever purchased from Sandbill realty - specifically a property they have renovated (cleaned up)?

Bumstead - thank you!!! That was my sense - so great to hear your experience. If you still don't mind answering questions - we see several little parks on the map, including one on 36th ave and 39th lane. Do you happen to go to any of the parks and know if they are nice to walk to with little kids? We don't need fancy playgrounds but just a big open area to run around in is really nice (that's not covered in dog poo).

Bumstead - awesome! Thank you so much. Have you found any issues with crime? Where do you think the area is headed (NW) - do you have any advice on where to look/where to avoid (besides encroaching on your quiet!! ) :-)

Thank you!

Tute - to make sure I'm looking at the map correctly, are you talking about Bikini Ct, Sandy Cir, Edith Esplanade, Normandy Ct area? Thanks!

Cape Coral

Tute - you've given us a lot to chew on!! We aren't boaters (although if we look at future value even as inheritance, etc - it's smartest to get a house with gulf access or near it...) - and we very much prefer mature, established areas - but we prefer more rural ones that aren't going to be developed. (our current and last house were near farms, technically "rural" but just outside cities, in protected areas - our area is currently prime fruit land, some of the last in Canada so fingers crossed it won't be developed) Basically all the benefits of the city but just a few blocks outside (well/septic), lower taxes, lower cost, more space, less traffic, etc. Thank you so so much for such a balanced and helpful post - We're going to start looking at listings soon, and we are staying near where you mentioned - we'll be a little north of the 8 lakes area, just north of cape coral parkway near the publix - it will be easy to hop over there - looks like a relatively small area on the map - and check out what sounds like a great neighborhood.

Hard to know what the NW will become, though, right? - don't like the sound of chains coming in - but wonder if it could have great potential and we may someday think "thank goodness we got in here 20 years ago, and just had to buy an AC lock and worry for that first five....."???!!!

I can't wait to come back and share my experience - I grew up in the concrete jungle and tend to really need to be somewhere with space but close to a main highway, and rural - ie not feel totally landlocked. Since the cape has so many canals, it will be interesting to see how it feels - must be completely different than what I'm used to.

Thank you SOOO much! We aren't interested in profit - just getting something that shouldn't go down too much over time and would be a vacation home for the family for years. So basically investing in the area. Safety a big concern though - the NW area looked good to us as it won't be developed for a while but you're indicating we should stay away from the North. Thank you!!

Cape Coral

Pretty strong sentiments against buying in the Cape. Do people still feel this way? I'm going down for vaca week and on here to look for good food, but have to ask - I know lots of contractors and builders are buying things up in the Cape (especially contractors taking advantage of the Chinese drywall situation to get super-cheap house and replace drywall and then sell I guess - what a mess down there). Anyway, thought I'd ask and thanks!

Cape Coral

WOW! I can't believe I found this thread. I'll start digging through all the cape coral area posts but thought I'd post here before I lost it (a little hard to find).

We are headed down in a week and have an infant and toddler and most importantly, MIL!! We'll probably eat most meals in rented house and know there is a Publix down the street - but if we "get out of jail" and MIL babysits - where to go nearby? We don't want to waste time driving so would probably stay in Cape. We're SE.

We don't subject the kids to restaurants except once in a great while (or should I say, restaurant-goers to the kids) - but does there happen to be a place that is super kid friendly - with things that would really keep the kids happy while we eat and decent food??

Thanks!

Restaurant.com restaurants in Bethesda area?

We will be visiting family in the Bethesda area and don't know the restaurants. I'd love to have the time to compare reviews on here and TripAdvisor to the restaurants available on the gift certificate website, but can't.

Has anyone used restaurant.com and happen to know which are the worthwhile restaurants in the area to get certificates for? We eat anything mainstream (american, japanese, mexican, vietnamese, etc) and just like good quality food. Where we are now (not near a big city, in Canada) - there's not much in the way of good food... So we're really looking forward to it!

We'll also be north of Philly so I'll check some things there, but know that area very well and will save the pizza and steaks take-out for that leg of the trip! The family in MD/DC unfortunately can't help, it's very elderly relatives.

Oh, and aside from what's on restaurant.com - I am craving a really good bagel - what's the best place in the vicinity?

Thanks!

Lewiston/Niagara Falls restaurant.com restaurants?

This is a shot in the dark but if anyone has researched, I'll find them on Chowhound! Hubby and I are finally going to start date night now that we've got a babysitter and some sleep. We have a bunch of restaurant.com generic certificates, and would like to start using them - anywhere on the border, like Lewiston/Niagara Falls and nearby areas.

Has anyone found any worthwhile places in the area that are on restaurant.com? From casual to fancy, doesn't matter, just has to be Chowhound worthy.

Thanks!

Andrea

Niagara Falls, NY area Super Bowl spot, good food

I know how active these boards are so I'll bump! I really have no idea where else to start, except maybe tripadvisor or worse, just a random search. Don't know anyone in the area, etc. Thanks!

Niagara Falls, NY area Super Bowl spot, good food

Hi!! I gotta see my commercials, so I'm going to hop back to my home country across the border, but don't know Niagara Falls, NY, or Lewiston area - well enough to know where to go.

Want somewhere the car will be safe, easy enough to find a spot (but that's not a huge deal), with great food (i'm pregnant and who knows what I'll be craving that day, but I'm dying for some decent pizza - Canada ain't got it around where I am anyway!!!!!) - and of course a great place to watch the game.

No smoke - I can't remember if bars still can have smoke in the states. not super greasy, so some choices, and really worth going to for the food and for the quality of the TV... is that possible??

Thank you!!!!!

Old Erie Restaurant or Skaneateles update?

OK so so far I have had two non-raving "it's OK" answers.

Anyone else think differently?

Thanks!

Old Erie Restaurant or Skaneateles update?

So we made it to skaneateles - wondering if anyone can speak to the old erie restaurant in weedsport now that management has changed?

Any update on where to eat and which bakery to visit in skaneateles?

Thanks!

Mid-price dinner near DC convention center, safe to walk?

OK so i had a whole big reply and computer fritzed. We did acadiana, put us in back room/type area. it was perfect size wise but we definitely noticed that it was just a bit too loud. I had a hard time hearing the person across from me, and for 13 of us, we ended up just in our little groups around the table which unfortunately wasn't what we wanted.

That said, everyone really enjoyed it, the location was perfect, and the food was great. lots got the steak, there was a tilapia special many others got, I got the salmon. I don't really like fish so I asked what they recommend given that - It was a great choice, very delicious. Biscuits were great, elyssa!

Dessert - I think we got some.... can't remember!!!

Anyway, sorry to start out with the negative but THANK YOU - despite the noise issue it was very successful and the food was wonderful.

NYer asks: Any diners, greasy spoons or regular food in Niagara Wine country?

hi all! i have to say, moving to niagara has been good for my waistline. The combination of high price and lack of availability of decent pizza (to my liking) or chinese food has helped force me to learn to cook!

That said, is there any place that has a good pizza steak? (cheesesteak with pizza sauce)

Thanks!

Mid-price dinner near DC convention center, safe to walk?

Hi, everyone! Well, we decided on Acadiana - will let you know how it went! Of course, now I am really interested in Corduroy, and will try to go there one of the other nights!!

Oh, and if you want to recommend "must try" dishes from Acadiana let me know - their menu isn't huge

Thanks for that - i did get on google maps and saw that everything is south of the convention center, and so was reassured.

Big smiles!!! Maybe my husband and I will go there another night, I've never been but have always heard. That's just too funny, considering the group of professionals I'm coordinating. Wish I could say more to share the smiles - Suffice it to say that your comments made my day....
