Googa Mooga Food Festival in Prospect Park

Have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Got there before noon and had no problem getting whatever food or beer we wanted up until we left around 4. Can't speak for those who came later though.

Googa Mooga Food Festival in Prospect Park

Great beer and food at Double Windsor on PPW and 16th (pretty much across from park) that's my back up

Solo dining?

coming to Vancouver for a conference and looking for some solid options for solo dining. Sit at bar, fun atmosphere but high quality, any cuisine. (from NYC and a momofuku like place would be a good analog)
Thanks

Omnivore, vegan options

coming to town for a conference with a vegan friend. The dilemma is that I'm an omnivore and definitely don't want to be limited in that way. Any options that can accommodate us both? Thanks

Craving Steak au poivre in Bklyn, any recs?

Quercy on Court st and Ptit Paris on PPW. Both very solid, much better food than Tabac though they both lose points on atmosphere.

Il Buco Alimentari e Vineria

Yeah, not so sure about that. Have been in NYC over 13yrs and have never eaten at a NYT 3 star place with such comically bad service.

Is Spicy & Tasty still good?

Agreed. Still spicy, still very tasty.

Il Buco Alimentari e Vineria

Went for lunch today. Food was all very good but nothing mind blowing. Would equate it with Osteria Morini. Service, however, was surprisingly spotty. They forgot our drinks, and we saw many similar mistakes with our neighbors. 3 stars is pretty laughable.

Chinatown East Broadway........ do I remember correctly?

Pretty good hand pulled noodle soup. Hole in the wall sort of place just east of post office between Allen and Rutgers. Cheap and tasty

Le Paddock, Windsor Terrace

have to agree about Le Paddock. nice room, good vibe, average food. agree that Ptit Paris has far better food...really no comparison. wish that Ptit Paris could steal some interior design tips, then you'd really have something

Looking for an inexpensive, special dinner for two in Brooklyn

another rec for Tanoreen. not terribly romantic but amazing Palestinian food. worth the trip to Bay Ridge if you've never been

Prospect Park: What's in the picnic basket?

why not go on a saturday and do all your shopping at the great farmer's market at Grand Army Plaza? you'll find everything you need except ready to eat proteins.

Le Bernardin - Three Strikes, It's Out!

Have to agree with the defenders of Le Bernadin here. Had a wonderful meal with spot on service recently. Went to EMP a couple of weeks ago and have to say that I've grown a bit tired of the whole Danny Meyer experience. While I love a nice, warm atmosphere, it almost seems gimmicky at his places. The juxtaposition of high end food and staff treating me like I'm their long lost cousin just seems disingenuous and kinda creepy. Is it just me?

blasphemy

Went to EMP 2 nights ago, third time there but first since the menu renovation and its 4th NYT star. Have to say I was underwhelmed. While the food was expertly prepared, pretty to look at, and the service was up to the standard Danny Meyer 'welcome home' style, I can't say I left feeling like I ate anything truly memorable. Between my wife and myself, we sampled half of the available menu, and while we certainly enjoyed our meal, nothing really blew us away. Have to say that if I'm going to blow that kind of money on a meal, next time I'll do it at Jean Georges or Le Bernadin, both of which routinely serve up food with a bit more of a 'wow' factor at a similar price point. Can't say I cared for the coy little menu either, and the waitstaff's response to our inquiries with a cryptic, "our chef likes to surprise you". feels a bit gimmicky.
is it me?

try Double Windsor or Ptit Paris, both on PPW, both with really good burgers, and cooked appropriately. have had a pretty good burger at 12th st Bar as well.

Balthazar pastries in Brooklyn?

correction-just read that the columbia st shop has closed...sorry for the bad info. glad to say the Pie Shop is alive and well. great coffee too.

Balthazar pastries in Brooklyn?

The Pie Shop on Prospect Park West/16th carries these; it probably pays to give Dub pies on Columbia St a call as they are a mini-chain and may have the same stuff.

Piccoli Risotteria--surprisingly good fare in Windsor Terrace

also gave it a try and had two excellent risottos, the wild mushroom and seafood. both cooked perfectly. it is indeed the Fragole team. heard that they plan on sprucing up the outdoor seating once Spring arrives. here's hoping it succeeds.

Butcher in Brooklyn

United Meat Market on PPW and 16th St. great selection, high quality and certainly cheaper than Staubitz or Union Market. pretty bare bones looking place but has what you need (or can get it within 1-2 d)

Killer lamb dishes?

spicy lamb noodles or lamb sandwich at Xi'ans Famous Foods. ridiculously good and cheap

Bachelorette Party Dinner

stanton social. perfect for groups. great scene, small plates of fun and tasty food.

Le P'tit Paris Bistro-Looks like we've got a winner!

have to agree. one year in and their food has held up really well. have had pretty much everything on the menu and have yet to be disappointed. love the steak au poive and onion soup as well. both are superior to those at pretty much any bistro I've come across in Brooklyn.

Suggestions for an anniversary dinner in Brooklyn

another endorsement for Convivium. perfect for anniversary. great light, cozy and excellent food.

Convivium Osteria--Menu Favorites

if you enjoy steak, the steak for two blows most steak houses away. easily.

Take out near Prospect Park, Brooklyn

plenty of options near the 15th st/prospect park 'F' train stop (5 min walk to bandshell):
Pie Shop on 16th/Prospect Park West-tasty little New Zealand pastry stuffed with all kinds of savory stuff.
Double Windsor (across streeet from Pie Shop)-a great bar with excellent sandwiches you can get to go (burger, pulled pork, steak).
Grab on 7th ave/15th St for cheese, bread, cured meats etc.
Russo's on 7th ave/10th st-Italian market with a big selection of to go pastas, roasted veggies (get the artichokes), meatballs, cheese, etc..
Henry's on 7th ave/15th st for Bahn Mi

NC girls for a NYC Bachelorette weekend in June!! Need suggestions for lunch and dinner

stanton social for fri night. great scene for a group and puts you in the lower east side for the night out; great for what you are looking for. buddakan is a solid choice for your 2nd night. good food and scene as well.

What Brooklyn dinner experience (tomorrow night!) will persuade my wife to move there with me?

Vinegar Hill House and Al Di La are both great choices. Al Di La's location on 5th ave is probably more appealing to a Manhattanite as Vinegar Hill House is quite isolated (but has a definite allure). I would throw Frankie's 457, Prime Meats and Buttermilk Channel on your list; solid food, hip scenes and would allow you to explore Carroll Gardens.

Moving to south slope - recomendations?

Fonda and Beer Table on 7th Ave, Ptit Paris and Double Windsor on PPW all way above average and worth checking out. Provini on 8th ave, nice looking spot with decent Italian, worth at try as well
