Momofuku Late Night Dinner Series: The Publican at Momofuku Ssam Bar

Great write-up! I was tempted, but the late hour dissuaded me. Here's hoping they do it again...and start a little earlier next time.

l'artusi or SD26? food emergency

What about Lincoln? That strikes me as going over better with the parent crowd. L'Artusi is very good but can get very loud.

Pearl and Ash

I would also add the meatballs, if they have them - come 4 to an order. So good.

Creative pay-your-own-way wedding eve drinks/dinner venue for 25

I would skip dinner and just do drinks Friday night. Have it start at 9pm-ish so guests know they need to do their own thing beforehand. I've actually been to a wedding where that happened - the immediate family had dinner together before and then everyone met up at the bar.

Cricket-showing Bar

Maybe the Australian...also it looks like Kinsale will be open, showing a football match so you might have luck calling and asking if they'll show cricket too.

Restaurants with tasting menus allowing 10:30pm seatings (preferably near theater district)

No jackets required in the lounge at Le Bernardin, which they redid and is much more spacious and lovely than its previous iteration - and you can order off the regular menu (including the tasting). Not sure about the time constraint but it may be worth a phone call.

How about Osteria Morini? I went for brunch and liked it - we were on the early side so noise was not an issue.

New Malaysian restaurant Rasa

Just saw this about the new Malaysian restaurant Rasa, by Camie Lai and her brother Tommy, who was the chef at Laut:

Sounds very promising - any early reports?

New Spin on the perennial Regional Italian question, maybe?

Acqua at Peck Slip was doing prix-fixe menus based on various Italian regions...I do believe they have stopped for now but you could always call and ask.

Non-Pork large format or other set menu (Breslin fried chicken vs. Ma Pech lamb/chicken?)

My only beef (har, har) with the Chef's Table at the Breslin is that it is quite loud, if that's any consideration. I think with 8 you might be seated elsewhere but I can't recall seeing another table big enough for that size party.

dinner to convince a friend to love new york?

I vote for the NoMad if you can get a table (the one in the NoMad hotel, not the Ethiopian place in the EV). It's buzzy, great food, great vibe, and their bartender was interviewed back in February about creating a new list of non-alcoholic cocktails: http://www.grubstreet.com/2013/02/leo...

Alternatively, I'd also check out Il Buco Alimentari for the same reasons. I had a dinner there for a pregnant friend and they created a fabulous sparking rhubarb mocktail. I realize dinner isn't all about drinks, but I think it's good to show your friend there are places she can go have a nice "drink" - even if there's no alcohol in it.

The best Food Trucks in NYC

I love food trucks. For Greek, Uncle Gussy's (51st and Park) is great. Cinnamon Snail is a vegan food truck that gets a lot of press - haven't tried it but have heard good things (from vegans and carnivores alike). Check Midtown Lunch's Twitter Tracker for trucks that are out and about. I also like Wafels & Dinges - they usually have a cart in Columbus Circle. And Coolhaus for ice cream sandwiches.

Foodie pub crawl

I did one in 2011 on E 7th Street; it was great fun: http://asarcasticappetite.wordpress.c...

We did it during the day - much easier to organize and less crowded. You could start at Momofuku Ssam for the duck lunch, etc. and then make your way to 7th.

beet - new ues restaurant at 84th and 2nd

I went for a drink on the Sunday afternoon after Sandy and they had actually run out of white wine. All of it. Can't blame them, I guess. The room clearly had leftover decor from Pepe Patron, and the menu and wine list fell pretty flat. Haven't been back since. Hope they've stepped up their game a bit.

looking for a good casual spot between 34 and 70 on the east side for tonight

Jubilee on 52nd and 1st is quite good. Second Land of Plenty and Moti Mahal (BYO last I checked but there's a wine shop a block away)

Which of these would you choose for double date?

I'd do the dutch over aqua grill, plus you can still get raw bar if you want to go that route.

Feedback on Feb Rome itinerary, please!

Ah, it looks like we don't arrive until 2pm on Thursday anyway, so we'll scrap lunch and hit Le Barrique instead.

Thanks all for the recs! And thanks, Jen, for the note about L'Asino on Fridays. I had seen that elsewhere too. I'll have a back-up plan in case we need a second lunch somewhere else.

Feedback on Feb Rome itinerary, please!

Hi all,

NYC hound headed to Rome in a few weeks with a good friend. I've been lurking on this board for several months and would love some feedback on our itinerary. It's really aggressive (not listed are the wine bars we'll be frequenting in between meals) but we can handle it.

I want to be sure we get a leisurely lunch in and a high-end tasting menu for dinner. We're open on classic Roman vs. modern, and price isn't an object.

Thursday: arrive hopefully in time for a late lunch. Staying near the Trevi Fountain.
Taverna dei fori imperiali?
Trattoria Cavalier Gino?

For dinner, making a meal out of various wine bars: Le Barrique, Palatium, Enoteca Cavour, etc.

Friday:
L’Asino D’Oro set lunch (will hopefully be able to make a resy)

For dinner: Metamorfosi?
Pipero al Rex?
Perilli?

Saturday:
Long leisurely lunch - ? Would love to set out for lunch not in the neighborhood and then be able to meander back. Thoughts?

Dinner: Trattoria Monti

Sunday:
Can't remember when we leave, but am thinking there will only really be time for a leisurely breakfast. Will possibly check out Babington's.

Thanks!

83 1/2 Restaurant-(Ryan Skeen's) Is it closed??

Hmm...looks like their FB page no longer exists but the website is still up - http://www.eighty-threeandahalf.com/

Nothing about being closed on Tuesdays, though. A worrisome sign.

Any recommendations for a affordable to moderately priced wine bar with a good atmosphere?

I like Aria in the WV. Another option nearby is Anfora.

Rec for Romantic restaurant with Bar/Lounge feel

there is a terroir in murray hill which is good. The library at the NoMad is very intimate but no resys and you have to get there early (by 6).

closing dinner for foodies - really need some help

I vote for the NoMad. Request the Parlor room (with 8 you might be seated there anyway).

Torrisi is a set menu, $75 for 7 courses (or $160 for the 20 course Chef's menu), so that might be too limiting. Plus I don't think you can wedge 8 in there.

I think you'd have to do Bar Room at the Modern but I don't know that I'd say it's a "fun" atmosphere (though I do really enjoy it).

Mas could work, though not sure about the size inside for a group of your size. They might also make you do a prix fixe; not sure.

Other thoughts: Commerce? L'Artusi? L'Apicio?
