What happend to The Bicycle Bistro
Basically the new place they tried to open sucked a lot of capital away and both places closed.
The Brewers Art, Baltimore
Someone was saying something similar on Yelp about a month ago and I will just go ahead and repeat what Tom said there - "... we do not charge $8 for any of our beers. They are $3.25 at happy hour, $4.50 regular price."
Though, I guess the 750ml bottles are more expensive.

Wine Market
new chef was the long time sous chef, so I wouldnt blame that. Just sounds like an off night.. I dont think no lime wedges is a thought out cost cutting measure.
Good falafel in Baltimore?
Shapiro's Cafe right off Charles St and W Preston.. love love love the falafel and other food, though the pita itself used to fall apart a lot.. might have changed now but honestly its worth it, please go!
Baltimore/ Washington Dishes You Dream About
Wait.. so you start a thread called "baltimore washington dishes you dream about" and then you start talking about Taipei and Beijing? Do you realize how rediculous this is.
Restaurants That Have Slipped. Baltimore
I've never been to Salt, but in reality I would totally expect and be perfectly comfortable with the same piece of meat being recooked. If it's overdone, well yeah, nothing can be done about it, but if it's under, I don't see what's so shocking about re-heating the same piece of meat. What if the customer was wrong in what they ordered and really wanted it medium instead of medium rare or something? The restaurant isn't going to throw away a porterhouse.
Obviously the right answer is to have every piece of protein cooked perfectly every time but it seems like the server and manager were so stunned at your demand for an entirely new piece of meat (you said you're no expert)m that it went downhill from there.
Philly hound....any talk of the Woodberry Kitchen in Bmore?
Im sure the place is popular enough to trash talk now, but I would go, get a drink, flatbread, two small plates, and a dessert. The entrees arent the strong point so you can do well to eat around them.
Recommendations for Mt. Vernon, please.
Nothing wrong with the Helmand but it seems like we're limiting ourselves to lunch locations. I will have to second shapiro's, while I havent been personally, most everyone else at my work has, and they rave about corned beef and falafel (not together, though, maybe...?).
Spring Gnocchi
I work at Brewer's Art in Baltimore, and I can tell you we have stinging nettle gnocchi on the menu.

May Ball game trip to Camden Yards
Depending on when in may, softshell crabs should be around at that time.
Best butcher in Baltimore?
^ This. I had a chance to sample some kobe from Wegmans and it was without a doubt the real deal. The fat melted on touch pretty much, it was soft and delicious in the mouth almost like a spread. Fifty dollars a pound yes but, the real deal.
Hunan Taste - Authentic Hunanese comes to Catonsville - in the HMart strip mall
It's entirely probably that you are not a special flower, that you're not really as much of a "regular" as you think, and the "game" is just in your head. Why would they want to alienate their largest growing group of customers?
A find equal to Grace Garden?
I want to hear about Hunan Taste, so keep the topic there and not the nuances of some other restaurant that shall not be named, I honestly dont care.
That being said, I went with a friend to Hunan Taste yesterday and it was downright excellent. We had cabbage and pork soup -- a very light broth, a small amount of ground pork and a lot of bright, fresh cabbage. It was light but well seasoned.. perfect for a chilly day as it was. Definitely didn't realize how large it was going to be -- one order would handily serve 2-4 people.
Next we had beef tendon with "caraway"? Im not sure what they meant but it certainly wasnt caraway. The tendon was jelly like, served in a LARGE portion with some cilantro, and definitely some heat to it. I dunno if I could finish even a 3rd of a portion.. definitely another one to be shared.
Next we had I think it was shrimp in lotus leaf.. they were presented in the bamboo steamer, between 12 and 20 head-on shrimp, well cooked with a pleasant garlicky flavor. There was some difficulty in eating the shrimp, and Im personally not that crazy about them, but my friend did enjoy them, but probably would order something else that would be less hassle.
The dish I got was the smoked ox tongue stir fry.. and wow this was one of the best things Ive had in a long time. The meat was sliced moderately thin, in a heaping pile along with fresno chiles, celery, ginger, scallions. The meat itself was extremely rich, yet the aforementioned vegetables and aromatics would cut through that richness into something really nicely balanced. Again the meat itself while it said smoked, I would describe it more as charred on a grill flavor, but in a very pleasant way, like a nice fatty steak.
Oh and I almost forgot we ordered some taro pancakes as well -- freshly fried, extremely crispy and not greasy, and inside was the rich and almost gummy taro.. on the verge of being dessert. Definitely great for that "fried" fix I know you have.
I admit we chose some relatively "tame" choices, I would definitely go back and explore further. A couple to our left ordered a whole fish that looked amazing, and we saw go by a sizzling platter that smelled like wood -- some item that was served on a wood plank.
Lunch at Alizee
Yeah the unfortunate part of being in a hotel is that they have to offer breakfast lunch and dinner where it seems as if dinner is clearly the focal point.
Volt, Table 21: A Return Visit
I dunno if it's fair to compare it to Charlie Trotters (which is in Chicago mind you, this is the DC/Baltimore thread, at least compare it to something in Maryland), but I went to Table 21 Wednesday night and Id say probably 18 out of the 21 dishes were great, only one real clunker. We got white truffles and foie gras for no supplement, so it was definitely worth the money. Not saying I would go back anytime soon (it is an hour away), but I definitely enjoyed it overall.
Wegman's Leesburg: @145,000 square feet the largest in the chain.
Even moreso, it's been in the top 10 best employers for almost a decade now. It's really interesting to see how the stores have changed from upstate NY to down here.. but yeah Columbia can't open fast enough (it's been fought off for like what, 3-4 years now?)
Brewers Art lately?
Greetings,
Yes the entrees have changed today, Wednesday the 30th, and the rest of the menu will change next Wednesday. I just checked the website, it is current. :)
Dave Newman has been the executive chef since July '08 (yes, I am an employee).
Cheers,

NEW Alizee at the Colonnade, anyone been? (Baltimore)
Hey,
So I saw the new Alizee menu and it looks really interesting, so I want to know how the food is but I dont wanna be the first one to dive in! If anyone has been, please post your thoughts here. I dunno how long the new chef owners have been around.. its maybe a month or not even?
Spezie Disaster / Smith and Wollensky Disappointment
For the record I thought New York style was soft and barely set in the middle while becoming increasingly dense towards the outer edge?
Dining alone around MSG
Hey all. I am taking a bus from Baltimore and it arrives near MSG. Im looking for something where I can dress casually (say, all black) but still have a great lunch meal for one. I'm a cook dining alone so Id really prefer great food with a low key vibe. Walking distance would be great but Im willing to hear it all. I know its such a vast request, so I guess I can narrow it down to preferring $30 or less, alcohol not necessary or important, and I guess something more well known (like a momofuku, USHG, or boloud type of offering). Much appreciated.
13.5 wine bar in Hampden
It doesnt hold a candle to Per Se either Im sure, but is that a reasonable comparison? Seems like to very different concepts (though I agree with your post besides the last sentence)
Glarus Chocolatiere
Is there anything that could compare to swiss chocolate? It seems a little unfair to compare them this way (Ive never eaten Glarus but, give em a break)
Robert Oliver's Seafood Restaurant?
If you searched the chowhound for Robert Oliver... there is not anything good to be said at all. Personally, I know a few months ago they were closed down by the health department for a bit.. and the only other activity I see there is late night parties in the style of Red Maple or Brass Elephant.. meaning with a metal detector. Restaurant Week(s)
Honestly this is a little wide angled and while I agree yes some places it's about making profit margin rather than the food, there are definitely some places where you get a great deal. So the message here should be that you have to DO YOUR RESEARCH. Values are definitely out there.
Woodberry Kitchen
Yeah that "grizzly Jim" lookin dude has been workin the hot line since the beginning and seems to be there every night I go!
Woodberry Kitchen
"new" restaurant that opened in 2007.
Nonetheless, Ive been many times since it opened -- I definitely think the apps and small plates are better than entrees -- two small plates, a cocktail, dessert and coffee is a good way to go.
As someone said way back in 2007, the only bad part about WK I find, are the other customers.
Dogwood closing?
Boring, really? The one time I went (last year if not longer) I thought the food was excellent, on par with like woodberry. Though I guess thats the problem.. even if I liked it, I wasnt compelled to go back.
Jackfruit, Guava... where do I find my favorite "exotic" fruits?
Ive seen mangosteen at Wegmans, but I dont think they were ripe at all (or if they ever would be).
