What’s new in Agoura Hills/Oak Park

Bikes and Coffee seems to have changed their name to Bikes and Brew for some reason but still the same place.

Eatery Chain ‘Hot Dog On A Stick’ Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

The problem (well, one of their problems) is that their hot dogs aren't any good. Those gelatinous turkey dogs just don't do it for me. Maybe if they start offering some sort of brats or Hebrew Nationals under that corn batter it might be more interesting.

Beano Vino Newbury Park serving Intelligentcia Coffee

Waaay down in Newbury Park, a bit south of Thousand Oaks in the Conejo Valley there is this small coffee house hidden among the faux Tuscany encrusted McMansions of the Dos Vientos neighborhood I found Beano Vino which is serving Intelligentcia coffee using the pour over style.
Weird, I didn't see any wine for sale though in spite of the name, only coffee.
The owners are friendly and the workers seem to really care about the craft of great coffee. The owner says they get their coffee from Intelligentcia ground and delivered daily. This is a nice find for this area...if you can actualy find it. It's even a bit of a drive for those who live in Thousand Oaks proper.
But if you somehow find yourself in the area and are in need of a great cup o' Joe..

Magic Restroom soft opens.

So this is what you do when you want to open a restaurant and are desperate for free publicity- you go with the "shocking" concept.
Everyone will talk about the toilets and the gross out factor but what about the food? Probably pretty average to bad but that doesn't matter if people are distracted by the "concept" and money will be made off of people who want to see the latest shiny object.
Kind of like what would happen if you asked a bunch of eight year old boys what kind of restaurant they would like to own.
So there you have it Magic Restroom= the Miley Cyrus of food.

Anyone go to honeybaked ham for breakfast/lunch?

I didn't know Honeybaked had restaurants. You mean actual sit down breakfasts and lunch items? I looked at the Honeybaked site and found nothing to indicate that they served meals in their stores.

Take out BBQ between Thousand Oaks and Burbank

I've been put in charge of getting take out BBQ for a small party for a Sunday night and I was wondering about great BBQ places between Thousand Oaks and Burbank.
Should I make it easy on myself and just get Wood Ranch or Stone Fire Grill BBQ or is there something else in the SF Valley that I should try?
Ribs USA....?

Sunday Night- Wilshire and Sepulveda area- need recs please.

I have a out of town friend who is staying near Wilshire and Sepulveda and need recs for a good moderate to inexpensive place to eat on Sunday night. And he doesn't like any kind of seafood (which is strange, him being from Seattle and all).
Is there a place we can eat that's within 5 miles of this location that would be a nice place to show off a little So Cal cuisine?
Open to Mex, Korean, deli etc.

Jonathan Gold's Favorite Sushi Restaurants (Yes, Mori is on the list...)

It is mentioned in the Hiko review that "at least one person will be kicked out during your meal".
Having not been to one of these high end sushi places with the Sushi Nazi type proprietor, what exactly does one have to do to get kicked out of the restaurant?
Just wondering....

LA Pumpkin Pie Pursuit Report -- 2012

Ok, I'm a weirdo, but I've always been disappointed by pumpkin pie. To me they all taste like like a big gooey spice bomb in my mouth.
Is there possibly a pumpkin pie out there that where you can actually taste any pumpkin flavor instead of just allspice and nutmeg?
I think the closest I've come is a pumpkin mousse pie from...Marie Callendars..I think.
Ok, rant over.

Umami @ The Grove -- Moco Loco

Loco Moco! Sounds wonderful! I looked at the menu for the Grove and the Loco Moco isn't listed there. Is this a new item?
I hope it's at my local Thousand Oaks Umami.
Now if they just served Ahi Poke I could be transported back to the islands....ahhhhhhhh!

Garage Dogs in Thousand Oaks

Thanks Les, saw the coupon for this and was wondering if it was any good. A good hot dog would be a nice break from the burger wars that seem to be raging across the Conejo Valley.

Ralphs Garlic Ranch Dressing discontinued! Why O Why?!

Went to my local Ralphs yesterday to feed my 2 bottle a month Ralphs Garlic Ranch habit and found out that this product will be discontinued! AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!
And looking at the other brands on the shelves I noticed that no other brand has a Garlic Ranch offering.
What is so damn difficult about making a Garlic Ranch dressing?! Yes, there are Garlic Caesars, but no Garlic Ranch. It seems like a no brainer to put together Garlic and Ranch, two of the best flavors in the universe.
I looked on line and Hidden Valley makes one but, at least at Amazon, it was not available, sold out or also discontinued.
Anybody else out there make a garlic ranch dressing that you can buy or order?

The incoming Umami Burger will be in direct competition with The Counter burger over in Westlake Village. Nice to have two good high end burger places in town.

Umami Burger comes to...Thousand Oaks!?!?

I just read that the Nate N Al's at The Lakes (2200 E Thousand Oaks Blvd, Thousand Oaks) closed on Monday is now to be replaced by Umami Burger!
For some reason the Nate N Al's there just never measured up and I found their corned beef to be tasteless. There was never a crowd there, maybe it was the location.
I'm looking forward to seeing if Umami survives this "restaurant death zone" of The Lakes.
ooops, I see that this news was already posted...

P&L Burgers - Moorpark: Comments?

I think you were still in Thousand Oaks on Arboles Street. The city of Moorpark is about 5 miles north. And anyone who lives in Thousand Oaks will agree with you about Cisco's. A half hearted attempt at Mexican food at best.
I've lived in T.O for many years and I still haven't tried P&L burgers yet. I think they were probably there before any other other burger joints. But now there is Habit , 5 Guys etc and P&L has lost it's cache, if it ever had any.

New restaurant in Westlake Village/Agoura Hills

Thanks Press! I didn't even know that Hideaway was there and I go up South Lake Lindero Drive and pass it all the time.
The prices seem reasonable too. I think many people think that if you go up that Lake Lindero Country Club driveway that you have to be a member of the club to eat or hang out and that's not true..
It really is hidden away over there!

Nate 'n Al's 65th Anniversary 65 Cent Specials - Today Only

Ok you two, get a room...;-)
I just got back from Nate 'n Al's and their .65 cent special and I just have to wonder why Nate's deli food is just kind of mediocre and tasteless. The corned beef has the right texture and it's nice and juicy but it's just bland!
They do some things right. Their breakfasts are pretty good and my wife liked the Matzo ball soup but as we sat there we wondered why we didn't just go to Brent's.
No wonder, aside from their 65 cent promotion, that Nate 'n Al's is usually a ghost town at the Lakes in Thousand Oaks.
